Don't Forget I'm a Lightweight

Chapter Ten: Mr. Caramel Eyes

Jack’s POV

“Why did you kiss me Jack?” Alex says again, snapping me out of state of shock.

“I really don’t know, I just don’t know.” I tell him, lying on why I did it.

I know perfectly why I did it, because I wanted to know what his soft lips felt like. Because someone as beautiful as him deserves all the kisses he can get. Because boys like him, need a strong, protective and loving guy like me to rely on when they have no one else to put their delicate hands on when they need that squeeze of a hand or hug during something as big as what he just may be going through.

“Liar Jack! Just stop lying to me! Tell me or I’ll leave this room, never come back and you won’t ever see me ever again!” He screams at me, truth in his eyes but one thing is cloudy, something I can’t even see.

“I’ll tell you, but you have to open to me, Mr. Caramel Eyes.” I say, being serious in every word.

“I-I can’t do that Jack, you don’t know anything!” He stutters.

“Then you won’t know why I kissed you. It’s only fair Mr. Gaskarth.”

“Give me a time and place. I give up.” Alex says weakly, giving up and looking down at his worn, torn and tattered black Converse with tired and teared eyes.

“Tonight, when you finish up with Tess- I heard you talking, I always make sure I have my eye on you- then I want you to come to my house, if you don’t want to walk in the cold I’d be happy to pick you up as well and once you’re done we can talk, have some snacks and whatever you like. Okay Alex?” I tell him, lifting up his head with my finger to let him look me in the eyes with a tiny, sad smile.

“Okay, Mr. Barakat. I-I’ll text you when I need to be picked up.”

“You’d text me if you had my number, pass me your phone.” I order him and he gives me his phone, then I plug my number in and pass it back to him.

“Go and do your project, I’ll be waiting.” I tell him, then collecting my stuff, I wait for him to walk out so I can walk out and lock the classroom door, just waiting to be reopened in the morning.

I walk out of the school and head to my car, then deciding to wait at a small coffee shop instead of going home and ordering a small mocha latte and taking out my briefcase to find my laptop and take advantage of the free wifi they have to check any messages on Gmail and Facebook, even connecting with an old friend of mine.

Mark Hoppus is talking…..
Hey Jack, how’s the teaching job?

Jack Barakat is talking…
Pretty good man, how’s the record company?

Mark Hoppus is talking…
If you're asking me if I make more money than you yet, then no moron.

And our conversation just keeps going on like that until about an hour later when I get a text from Alex saying:I need to be picked up now. Something happened and I don’t know where I am, all I know is that I’m near a place called “Java Joe’s.” Please help me! Asdfghjkl.”

And that’s when I realize I see a boy propped up on the side of the shop near the window, in the snow where I currently sit, my eyes now filled with pain as the boy I love and care for is in pain.
One thing I know is that no one hurts my Alex. No one.
