I Like You Better When You're Numb
"So what are you thinking?" Alex asked me as we looked at paint colors in Home Depot
"Oooh that's perfect!" I squealed when I saw this beautiful shade of purple. I picked up the sample and held it up for Alex to see.
“Cool. Looks good.” We got the paint, paid and went to a couple other places for furniture and stuff.
While we were in line, I saw him fiddling with my phone.
“Hey, what are you doing?” I asked, laughing.
“N-Nothing.” he stammered, as if he hadn’t expected to be caught.
On the way home, Blink-182 was playing in his car. I smiled.
"You like Blink?" he asked, surprised.
"Yeah, I love them!" I smiled.
"Me, too!" he smiled back.
"Who knew we'd have so much in common." I commented.
"I know." he replied. We rocked out and sang and danced in our seats for the rest of the car ride.
We got my stuff moved in and I started painting.
"Brooke?" I heard my gay best friend Nick call. He was here? I ran out and tackled him in a hug.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"You know I can't be away from my girl for too long." he smiled ruffled my hair.
“Wait, but how did you know where I was?” I asked.
Alex came out of the kitchen with a glass of orange juice, looking suspicious.
“Alex, did you do this?” I asked.
“Uh....um...well...yeah, I did.” he admitted.
“Thank you so much!” I cried, hugging him tightly.
“Woah, you’re welcome. How about you take some time and hang with him or something.” he told me.
“Are you sure you won’t need me?” I asked.
“Positive.” he replied.
“Great. Thank you so much!” I said, hugging him again.
“No problem.” he said back, waving me away. I left the house with Nick excitedly. Once we were in my car, he turned to me.
“Damn, he’s hot.” Nick said. I laughed.
“Yeah, he’s cute.” I agreed.
“Ooh, someone’s got a crush!” Nick said, poking my side.
I wiggled away from his long fingers.
“No! He’s my boss, technically.” I said.
“So?” Nick asked.
“Ugh nevermind.” I sighed.

sorry for the shortness, I just wanted to get out an update since I got so many comments on the first chapter.while you're here, go love my other story, Memories That Fade Like Photographs. Please?
Also I realized that all of my old stories involve Alex being a jerk about something. Did I actually believe that deep down that's how he was? Very disturbing.
I've been stumbling across stories I've read, and checking them out again since I seem to forget them after it's been a while. This was one of those cases.
Reading this again, and after reading other stories on here and Mibba, I've realized that with my last comment, I was a bit off. Yes, Brooke and Alex's relationship was cute when they were together/sweet to each other, but reading it again, their relationship was a bit abusive. Neither is completely innocent, but the version of Alex you wrote in this took it to the next level. I realize a lot of it was because of his insecurities, what he dealt with in the past, etc., but Brooke didn't deserve any of that. When she did mess up, she definitely didn't take her anger to the levels he did.
Idk, I'm conflicted because again, when they were together, it was cute, but then it just got sad when they weren't. I'm not sure why she put up with as much as she did.
Your writing is still good, though. Just wish they didn't have so many downs in their relationship. It got really sad at a lot of points, and I just felt Alex didn't need to take it to the degree he did, I mean really.
I doubt you saw my other comment, but just thought I would comment again as an update and to possibly get you to see it.
