Today was my first meeting with the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Tyler. I was nervous, as this meeting would decide about my future. I was still not entirely sure what had happened, why Jack had punched me, why I was in this whole situation. Police officers had looked at me in disgust, I had tried to ask them what had happened, but they always ignored me.

On the dot of 9 am, Dr. Tyler appeared in my cell. I was surprised, she was an attractive blonde, maybe wearing a bit too much makeup, but still. She smiled at me, the first time someone had smiled at me in two days. “Hello, Mr Dawson. My name is Dr. Rose Tyler. I am the psychologist here, and I am here to assess the situation.”

“Good morning, Doctor,” I said, trying my best to give a good impression. It still hurt a bit to smile from being hit, but I did my best.

We sat down at the tiny table in my cell. I noticed there was an armed officer standing at the door, always keeping an eye on us. “So, Mr Dawson. Can you tell me why you are here?” Dr. Tyler asked me. I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Well, all I can remember is going to the hotel room where my band-mates, Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth were staying. Next thing I remember, I was punched by Jack. And then, I woke up here. That’s all I know.

“Well that is not so good, Mr Dawson, I’ll be honest with you. You are here because you tried to rape one of your band-mates, Mr Gaskarth, to be exact.”

I gasped. I had imagined different reasons why I was here over the last few days, but this one was totally unexpected.

“What? Doctor, are you sure this is true? I’d never do anything to hurt Alex, I love him with all my heart…”

“Mr Dawson, I was told you have a girlfriend who’s name is Cassadee Pope. Is that true?” Still completely thrown off, I just nodded.

“Ms. Pope will come here later today to talk to us. If you want to, you can call her and ask her if she can bring you some things.” I nodded again, feeling numb. I had hurt Alex. My precious baby. And I couldn’t remember anything.

After this short talk, Dr. Tyler had me do an intelligence test. I tried my best, considering the fact I was completely dead inside. I talked to Cass, it was very short and icy. I guess that meant our relationship was over.

When she came in the afternoon, she made it official. We had a big row, she was yelling and throwing things, she had apparently thought I was going to propose soon. I was kind of glad it was over.

I spent the rest of the day curled up in a ball on my bunk.
In the evening, just before supper, Doctor Tyler came back. She was holding some papers. “Hello Mr Dawson. How are you feeling?”

“I am numb. I can’t believe I hurt Alex. He was my everything.” I replied, finally letting my thoughts out.

“You know what, Rian… May I call you Rian by the way? I am Rose.” I nodded, it seemed to be my standard response now the world has fallen apart.

“Rian, I think it is the best if you come with me, move places, to somewhere you will receive appropriate treatment. I have to tell you, you suffer from a condition called ‘Dissociative Identity Disorder’ or short, ‘DID’, meaning you sometimes switch to an alternate identity. The doctors at the clinic can explain it further. If you are okay with going to the clinic, you will get help there. It can get better, don’t worry. Will you come with me?”

I couldn’t help but feel a tiny spark of excitement light up in me. Maybe I could get better, and maybe Alex would eventually forgive me. I was just glad it had been something that was not me myself.
