Drawn To Each Horizon

Thirty Three

Liv POV:

“Ah LA, it’s nice to be home again.” Beau smiled as we got off the plane after what seemed like an eternity.

“I’m pretty bummed about Fiji being over though,” Val sighed.

“All good things must come to an end.” I shrugged.

“Whether you like it or not,” Alex added on.

“While that is true, I’m always in paradise when I’m with you.” Beau said to Val.

“Oh you’re such a sap.” She laughed and pushed him towards the escalator. “I just want to go home and sleep.”

“You slept for such a long time on the plane, how are you still so tired?” Beau laughed.

“We do not question the excellence that is sleep.” Alex said sternly.

“Oh jeez, where’d you pick up such a wise man?” Val rolled her eyes.

I just laughed at their ridiculous conversation as we made our way to baggage claim. We were almost there when a swarm of people (mostly teenage girls, let’s be honest) starting screaming and jumping up and down at the sight of us. Some were screaming for Beau, some saying Lights, and others were chanting Alex. I told them to go off and I’d go get the bags, we each had one so I quickly grabbed a cart. As I waited by the baggage claim a guy, maybe in his early twenties or so, appeared by my side.

“Does it ever bother you?” He asked.

“I’m sorry?” I was confused by what he meant.

“You know, being around celebrities.” He said. “They’re always getting constant attention from fans and things like that; does it bother you being off to the side?”

And to be honest, I’ve never thought about it like that. I’ve always been so happy for Alex, he was doing what he loved to do nearly every day. He was pouring his heart out to people who enjoyed watching and listening to him do what he had aspired to do for such a long time. Why would his success bother me? He was happy, and that made me happy.

“Not really.” I shrugged.

“Huh, why’s that?” He questioned me.

“Because they’re successful at doing something that they love, wouldn’t it be selfish of me to be upset about the attention they get because of it?” I replied simply. The only thing that is bothering me right now is this man’s pestering.

“I guess so.” He nodded. “I’m John by the way.”

“Olivia,” I reached forward and grabbed Alex’s bag.

“John, come on babe or we’ll be late for the party.” I heard a familiar voice call to him. Oh shit. No, no, no, no, no, no this cannot happen. “Oh Olivia, good to see you again doll face. You’re looking nicer than the last time I saw you.”

“It’s great to see you too Lisa.” I faked a smile and turned to face her.

“My my, you’re looking quite tan. Where’d you go?” She asked. You could tell how fake she was right now. Her smile was much to forced and her voice had this tone to it that was driving me insane.

“We went to Fiji with a few friends, it was pretty nice.” For some reason I felt the need to make her jealous. Something inside me told me to hate this woman with all of my heart and I feel like it was happening inside of Lisa too. We stood across from each other as she thought of something else to say, something to get back at me or make me feel bad.

“Lisa, what are you doing here?” Alex walked up from behind her with a skeptical look on his face.

“Oh, we just flew in from Baltimore because we’ll be staying to visit John’s family for about a week.” She placed her left hand on John’s chest to reveal a diamond ring sitting on her finger. “We’re engaged.”

“I can see that.” Alex nodded. “Well good for the two of you, I hope that you guys have a really happy life with each other.”

“Yes, we wish you the best.” I smiled.

“Right, well we’ll see you around, maybe.” Lisa seemed surprised by our nice demeanor towards the two of them. After all, none of us wanted a full out brawl to spread out in front of the airport for nearly everyone to see.

“What was all that about?” Beau and Val had finished up with the crowd of people waiting.

“Just ran into my ex is all.” Alex shrugged nonchalantly.

“What was Lisa doing here?” Beau sounded surprised. I was intrigued as to why Beau knew about Lisa but at the same time; Beau and Alex were on Warped together for the past few years.

“She was visiting John’s family for the weekend since they just got engaged.” Alex explained and checked to make sure that all of our bags were here.

“That didn’t seem to stop her from trying to make us jealous though.” I pointed out. Nobody would just do something like that if they didn’t have intent to hurt someone. I understand being happy about it but she was smug like she was trying to prove something to Alex.

“Well enough about her, let’s get going you guys.” Val led us out of the airport with a skip in her step. Mine and Alex’s tans were pretty prominent but Val and Beau always had that California glow on their skin.

Luckily Val remembered where Beau parked the car because the rest of us didn’t have the slightest clue. Beau popped the trunk and we placed our suitcases in the back happily. We all separated to different doors and plopped in and buckled ourselves in.

--

“So what were the two of you thinking about for dinner?” Val sat on the couch in-between Alex and me.

“I didn’t really have anything in mind.” I shrugged.

“Well Beau and I were headed off to the store to pick up some stuff for groceries and I just wanted to ask if you guys wanted anything.”

“A salad actually sounds great right now.” Alex nodded.

“Aright, any wine preferences?” She stood up.

“Nearly anything red,” I responded.

“Okay, be back soon.” She smiled and disappeared through the front door with Beau right behind her. That left Alex and I on the couch to ourselves.

“So do you maybe want to…” Alex’s hand trailed up my thigh.

“Not in someone else’s house baby, maybe when we get home.” I grabbed his hand and locked my fingers with his.

“Ugh, why does this have to ruin the fun?” He pouted.

“It’s just out of respect hun, if we were somewhere else I would be more than happy to oblige.” I rubbed his shoulder and kissed his cheek.

“Alright babe.”

Notes

Why hello Lisa, it's been a while hasn't it? Just thought I'd throw her in there to stir the pot a little, not much, just enough.
