Damned if I do ya
ch. 4
Chloe's POV
The rest of the week went by pretty quick. I had only one story houses so I guess that helped. I was trying to conserve my energy to clean Ms. Gaskarth's home. She had called me to confirm the price of cleaning her house and windows. I explained to her that the first time I'd charge more than usual and she was okay with that. We also scheduled her to be my every Thursday house. For the most part I was okay with everything she was saying. That is until she told me the most annoying news ever.
"Oh another thing Chloe, I won't be there most of the Thursdays when you're starting out but since my son is on break from his job he will be here to make sure to open the door for you," she said into the phone sweetly. I held back a groan. I did not want to see Alex again. Ever. I had nothing against the guy, well except for the fact that he was an insane douche but that was beside the point. I found him extremely attractive and I couldn't let myself fall for a guy like him. Hell I can't let myself fall for anybody period. It would complicate my lifestyle choices too much.
So that's how this whole week went. I was constantly dreading Thursday to come. I hoped it wouldn't last forever. But I knew it was inevitable. I knew it more when I woke up this morning and looked at the date on my phone.
January 12, 2012. Thursday 5:45 a.m.
I groaned as I lifted myself up from my bed. I went to the bathroom that was attached to my room and turned on the shower, letting it warm up as I undressed myself. The water was still running a little cold so I decided to give myself a once over. I didn't have the most perfect body, because I lacked curves but I was think and had decent sized boobs. My butt was small but not so small. I smiled at myself. I worked so hard for this body and I'm more than proud to flaunt it the way I did.
I stepped into the shower and let the hot water wake me up. Once I was done I opened my door and walked out naked to my room. I quickly got dressed into what I usually wear for work. It wasn't fabulous but then again, I clean houses. There was no point in dressing up for this job.
I pulled my bicolor hair into a tight high ponytail. My hair, even if it was up, cascaded over my shoulders. I brushed my teeth then washed my face. I made sure my skin was flawless so I didn't need to wear a lot of makeup daily. On the weekends was a different story though. I just lined my eyes with liquid eyeliner and plastered some mascara on my lashes, just like I did every day. I coated my lips with raspberry Chapstick and shoved it into the pocket of my sweats. It was cold so there was no way I was going to wear shorts.
I looked at the clock and it read 7:10. I still had a few minutes till I had to leave so I decided to eat a light breakfast. A toasted bagel with honey was just enough to full me up. I left my house at 7:20, deciding that Alex wouldn't mind if I showed up a bit early. I just wanted today to be over already.
After 30 minutes I pulled into their driveway. I walked towards my trunk and grabbed my two baskets filled with all the necessary cleaning supplies. I set them down by the door and jogged back to my car to get the mop and a duster for the ceilings. Once I set those down I knocked on the door twice. I expected Alex to take forever like last time but not even five seconds after the second knock the door flew open.
There in the doorway stood Alex in nothing but basketball shorts. I gulped slightly as I stared right into his eyes. He stared right back.
"Good morning Alexander," I said politely.
That seemed to break his poker face, "Uh er good morning Chloe." I liked that now he was the one who was flustered.
I made my way to the stairs and called over my shoulder with the baskets in my hands, "I'll be starting in your mom's room then make my way to the guest rooms. Don't worry, I won't be touching your room." I knew I was still being unprofessional but I didn't care. I had to be rude so he couldn't see how flustered he made me.
He didn't say anything to me, just nodded his head and kept his gaze on anything but me. I went into his mother's room and decided to clean her bathroom first. It wasn't so bad but it did take me a little while. I finished the top half of the house by 11. I was vacuuming when I saw Alex out of the corner of my eye taking the baskets downstairs as I already had the mop set up with water to mop the floors in each of the rooms. I saw his figure go down the stairs and set them down in the kitchen. I never had someone do that for me while I cleaned their house. It was cute actually. I went back to vacuuming and then I mopped the floor. After about another three hours I was loading up my car with my cleaning supplies. I went back inside to retrieve my lunch pail and the money from Alex.
“So it was $200 you said?” he asked as he pulled out his wallet. I nodded and gawked when he pulled out two fresh one hundred dollar bills from it. He placed them gently into my hand, curling his fingers around mine. He gave me a small smirk before letting them go. My hand instantly felt too cold. His warm touch sent sparks flying throughout my body but I choked them back down. No boy was ever going to make me that vulnerable again. I said my goodbyes and again watched him watch me as I left.
He blew me a kiss and that’s when I felt something hard smash against me. I blacked out but not before I heard a familiar voice scream, “CHLOE!”
