A Life of the Plain and the Simple

Thirty-Five

My dad never took me to the studio when I was little, I always saw him leaving to go record new music as another tour and several months of not seeing him until he came home for breaks or when he finished. I was going to change how that works with my kids. I was bring Izzy, Lily, and Lacey with us so Izzy can learn about what Jack and I do provide for her and her sisters as well as make sure that we were with the twins in case while we were in studio they would learn how to walk while we were able to watch them take their first steps.

I was running all over the house two days before we'd have to leave to meet up with everyone to head out to the studio, cleaning up the house and getting laundry done so all the girls and Jack had clothes to pack for our family trip out to the studio. Jack was keeping himself busy by playing with our daughters as I work.

Jack. Holy shit it feels like only yesterday he and I were playing in my parents backyard build sand castles in our old sandbox. Now here we are, married with three very special little girls. Jack was my entire world. He had my heart and I had his. What we have I always compare to what my parents have, I know that Dad loves Mom so much that he'd stop the world from spinning to make her happy. I know I would do everything I could to make Jack happy. I'm a hopeless romantic just like my dad.

My three girls have my heart always and forever. Izzy is so full of life and energy, she's just like her grandfather and father. She's kept me on my toes ever since she knew how to walk and has been nothing but full of trouble causing fun since. I only hope Lacey and Lily will be my good girls and not cause too much trouble like their sister, Jack and I would be nervous wrecks if the twins got into trouble like Izzy.

"Mommy," Izzy piped up as I packed a little suitcase full of her clothes, "What cha doing?"

"I am packing up your suitcase," I smiled to my oldest daughter, "We leave tomorrow for the studio."

"So am I going to Grampa Alex's or Grampa Jack's," she asked.

"You're coming with us," I told her, "Along with Lacey and Lily."

"Really," Izzy's jaw dropped and her eyes lit up. Izzy never really left home with us except to go to see Tom or our parents. This is her first time leaving home with us to go somewhere new.

"Yep," I replied, "But Grandpa Alex will be picking you up so you can start school in the fall. You'll be in kindergarten and get to make new friends."

"But I wanna stay with you and Daddy," Izzy pouted, "I wanna play with Lacey and Lily forevers."

"Isabelle," I started as I scooped her up into my arms and placed her on my lap, "I know that you're bumming out abut going off to school, but you need to go. Daddy and I went through school and I know you'll do very well there."

"I don't want Grampa Alex to take me," she compromised, "I want you and Daddy there."

"We'll be there, baby girl," I kissed her forehead and let her down. Izzy went running, surely to find Jack to tell him what I arranged for her.
Jack and I arrived first to the studio and we claimed the biggest room there so we could hook up the travel bassinets we got for the twins to sleep in and also to let Izzy get an idea on where we were. Plus this studio trip was unique for all of us; our dads were on tour and wouldn't join us in studio. This would be our first time in studio on our own, and I was excited to really spread my wings on this album so I can show my dad that I've learned all that I can from him and I'll be sure to pass down his lessons to my kids one day.

"It's so weird," Jack sighed as he held Lacey against his chest as she slept, "We've never been in studio without our dads before."

"I know," I replied as I held Lily the same way, "But we'll do great here. I know we'll knock this album out without a problem."

By that evening, Tom, Aubree, Xander, and Nate arrived to the studio. Xander as wide awake in his mother's arms as Tom carried in his and Aubree's bags along with Xander's diaper bag and his little suitcase. Aubree sat Xander down and he crawled off to sit with his twin cousins while Tom and Aubree got their things into their room.

"How long have you and Jack been here, Stell," Nate asked once he dumped his bag into his room.

"We got here late this morning," I replied as I fixed myself some hot chocolate, "I'm surprised you didn't bring Laney to spend the early days here with. I still have some writing to do before you guys get to put your hands on anything."

"I know," he replied, "But I was thinking on spending the studio time preparing myself to propose to her. I feel like she's the one for me and I'm ready to take the first step to getting married."

"That's wonderful Nate," I gushed as I hugged him, "Do you plan on getting married quickly or enjoying a long engagement?"

"I think a long engagement will be best for us. That way I can tour for a while before we all take a nice break so I can get married and get things settled with Laney and have a nice honeymoon," he replied, "I want to keep it simple and drama free, like how my dad was with my mom when they got engaged."

"Well if you ever need advice, you have two guys who've gotten married and two women that can give advice from our side of the situation," I told him, "Plus you if you and Laney want kdis after you get married, I am more than willing to let you practice taking care of a baby with the twins."

"Thanks Stella," Nate smiled, "You are truly a great friend and I'm glad you are one of my best friends too."
