Family Memories

Stella and Tom's First Bad Sick Day

"Daddy," I heard Stella shout for me before I heard a series of coughs.

I got up out of bed with Jules and went to check on our twins. They both were sitting up in their beds, their faces red and they looked really sick.

"They can't go to school today, Alex," Jules said after she kissed Tom's forehead, "Tom's burning up."

"But I want to go to school," Tom protested.

"Not happening bud," I told him after I checked Stella, she too was burning up, "You guys are staying home to rest. Don't go into Liam's room today. He's too small to get sick."

"I'll called the doctor," Jules said as she went to leave the room, "Can you get them dressed to go?"

"Of course I can," I replied, "I can handle these two."

"I don't like the doctor, Daddy," Stella whined before having a sneezing fit.

"I know, but he can help you feel better, princess," I told her as I got her out of bed and started to take her pajamas off, "Now get this on while I help Tommy."

I got the twins dressed and had them follow me downstairs. Jules was grabbing my car keys, wallet, and phone. I grabbed my jacket and got Stella and Tom in theirs before I took my things from Jules.

"I got them in to see the doctor as soon as possible," she kissed my cheek before handing over my beanie, "I'll stay here with Liam so Tom and Stella won't get him sick."

"That works for me," I replied before kissing my wife, "I'll be back as soon as I can."
"That's yucky," Stella whined as I got her does of medicine ready.

"I know, but it will make you feel better," I told her, "If you take it, I'll give you a tootsie pop."

"Fine," she groaned as she little me give her her medicine. Tom was easy and cooperated with me and he was now sleeping in his bed.

"That's my good girl," I kissed her forehead before I grabbed her an orange tootsie pop from the bag I had with me. She tore open the wrapper and stuck it into her mouth, sucking on it happily.

"If you want to sleep like Tommy, put the sucker into this baggy so it won't make a mess," I told her as I placed a sandwich baggie on her nightstand.
The next morning I woke up to a fit of coughing escaping my lips. Jules woke up and pressed my shoulders down into the bed. I felt so hot and shitty, I knew I caught what the twins had since I stayed with them all day yesterday.

"Alright you are quarantined, Alex," Jules said as she went to get the thermometer and stuck it into my mouth.

"But I had plans with Jack and Zack today," I whined. Now I know where my daughter gets it.

"You'll have to postpone," Jules replied, "You have a 100 fever. I'll get the over the counter medicine for you and some tea. Stay here."

Jules came back with a bed tray loaded with fresh toast, a banana, and some tea for me along with my medicine. I hated being sick, but when I was home I had Jules to help me get better. She sat the tray down in the middle of the bed. I took the does of medicine I needed and grabbed a piece of toast,

"Do I get soup later," I asked, "I like your soup babe."

"Of course you do," she replied. I felt a churning in my stomach and ran to our bathroom to throw up, "Hopefully you'll keep the soup down though."

"Not funny," I replied hoarsely, "My stomach hates toast when it's sick."

"I'll get the drunk bucket and put next the the bed so you don't have to run to the bathroom," Jules left the room and I laid down in bed. I turned on the TV in our room, settling for some random sitcom. I sipped on my tea and relaxed.

After some time alone, Tommy came into the room, his blanket was wrapped around his shoulders and he still looked pretty sick. I muted the TV and focused on him.

"Daddy," he started before coughing, "Did we get you sick?"

"It happens, bud," I told him as I signaled for him to join me, "Don't worry about it. Mommy will help us all feel better."

"Good," he replied happily, "Stella feels bad for making you sick."

"Everybody gets sick sometimes," I told him, "Make sure you tell her that I'm not upset with her for getting me sick. I should have been more careful."
