Tom and Stella: First Day of Kindergarten

"Alex, the twins start school in two weeks. We haven't taken them school shopping yet since you're still out in the UK," I told Alex as we talked on the phone.

"I'll be home sometime tomorrow and then after I get myself settled in again we can take them out shopping for their school supplies and clothes for school," he replied.

"Do you know when you'll be landing? Stella wants to come with me to the airport this time, so I'm bringing all three of them," I asked him.

"Yeah, I take off at 3 AM your time and I fly like ten hours so I should touch down around 1," he replied.

"Okay we'll be there to pick you up. We miss you, Alex," I told him.

"I miss you three too," he replied, "I love you Jules."

"I love you too, Alex. I'll let you go so I can out the kids down for bed and get some rest myself so I can be fully rested to pick you up," I replied.
"Alright Stella and Tom give me your school supply lists," I said as we pulled up to Target.

"I want Daddy to shop with me," Stella said as she handed up her list.

"I can do that, Jules you can shop with Tom," Alex told me.

"Okay, but who gets to watch Liam," I asked.

"I'll take him since I don't get to see the little man very often," he replied.

I gave Alex Stella's list and I took Tom's hand while Stella grabbed Alex's and Liam rested on Alex's hip with his head against his father's shoulder. I grabbed a cart for me to put Liam's things inside and Alex got a cart and he put Liam's diaper bag into the cart and got the shopping cart cover we had over the seat of the cart before he put Liam in his seat.

"I like this Mommy," Tom said as he held up a music themed hoodie.

"I like it too. Toss it in," I replied.

"Mommy, Stella is really attached to Daddy," Tom noticed as I grabbed him a pack of socks and a pack of little boy boxer briefs.

"I know," I told him, "She's Daddy's little girl."

"I'm scared that she'll never let him go when we start school," Tom said, "She'll miss him too much when he has to leave. She causes trouble when he leaves."

"I know she does, but we'll deal with that when it happens, okay bud," I stroked his hair as he picked out more shirts and some pants.
"Have a good first day of kindergarten," Alex said as he knelt down in front of Stella and Tom, fixing their backpacks.

"I don't want to go," Stella crossed her arms over her chest and sported her version of her father's angry face, "I want to stay home with Daddy."

"Stell, you need to go to school if you want to be like me. I'll be here to pick you up," Alex told her.

"Stella, it'll be fun. Tomorrow we'll get to have our first school lunch with Jack," Tom tried to convince his twin sister.

"But Daddy won't be there," Stella protested.

"Stella Marie, you need to go to school if you want to grow up and be a rock star like Daddy," I told her, "Daddy and I went to school like you are going to. We want you to learn how to read, write, and how to add and subtract numbers. We'll be here to pick you up everyday until Daddy has to go on tour. School will help time fly."

"Stella! Tom," little Jack called as he arrived to the school with his parents. Jack got to my twins and he pulled them both into his arms for a tight hug.

"Go with Jack and Tom, Stella. We love you," Alex pulled Stella into his arms after Jack released her and kissed her forehead. I did the same with Tom before we switched.

"Good luck, sweetheart," I told her, "Don't get into trouble on the first day."
"How was your first day, Stella," Alex asked as we pulled out of the parking lot of the school after picking up the twins.

"Okay, the teacher was nice," Stella replied.

"Did you make any friends today," I asked them.

"Yeah, Aubree was in our class and we became friends," Tom spoke up.

"Aubree's in kindergarten already," I asked him.

"Yea, she says her parents say she's really smart," he replied.

The rest of the ride, Tom talked about how cool school was while Stella looked out the window. I could tell that she'll never like school because it kept her away from Alex. I hope that'll change as she gets older and understands she needs to go to school so she can learn things we can't teach her like school can.
