My Fair Chance

Come Back Stronger

"So you think he's moving to California because of me?"

Alex rose an eyebrow as he stared at his best friend - A friend who still adored him, even though he'd been kept in the dark about a situation that was obviously getting out of hand. Jack was foolish, but he was not blind, nor was he stupid. He would never come right out and tell Alex his feelings on a subject in which he knew no real details of, but from what he'd pieced together, he could no longer keep his mouth shut. No matter how many times Rian asked him to stay out of it.

"Look at it from my point of view, dude. One day he's got this ridiculous hot girlfriend and the next she's MIA and he's decking you in the face!"

"Okay, for starters, they were never actually dating. At least, not until the wedding, I guess."
"And if I'm remembering correctly, that's the last time any of us saw her."

Sighing, Alex smoothed out the blankets on his bunk and took a seat. That night still haunts him, keeps him up in bed. Sometimes he thinks he can feel Brooklyn rolling over, grinding her hips into him while her fingers run through his hair. Other nights, he can feel her beside him, and then he remembers how she left.. Why she left.

Honestly, it was driving him crazy. Lisa wasn't even capable of having this affect on him. As long as he was with her, on-again-off-again, the only thing she managed to do was piss him off to the point that he told her to get lost. And once she came back, he'd do it all over again. Yet, there was this beautiful girl that he'd only spent a short time with, and she was making him dizzy without even being around him.

Fuck, he didn't even know where she was. For all he knew, she packed her bags and skipped town, too. She'd made it very apparent that he needed to mend his relationship with his band-mate, not her.

"I can see what you're saying."

"Right? Now can you tell me what it is that I don't know? Did you hook-up with her? Like, really hook-up with her?"

"We had a moment," Alex admitted, running a hand through his hair. "But it was just that. A moment. Zack showed up and she was gone. I don't even fucking know anymore."

"Oh shit. Dude, you crossed the line. You can't hook-up with someone's girl like that."

"I know, Jack, I know."

"Have you.. Ya know, talked to her since then?"

Growling, Alex nodded, a pang of guilt running through his body. If Jack tells him he fucked up, he really fucked up.

"I called her. She told me to call Zack instead."

"I bet Zack's talked to her," Jack stated, his brows furrowed with thought. "And she probably told him the same thing. Which is why he's moving. That way you two are only friends on tour."

"Not exactly."

Two heads snapped in the direction of the voice. There, with his arms crossed over his chest, stood Zack Merrick. A smirk was placed upon his lips and he had a knowing look.

Alex and Jack both let out deep breaths, like two kids caught trying to steal from a candy store.

"As much as I would like to turn Alex's face into a punching bag, he hasn't impacted my life that severely. Brooklyn and I had a nice long.. chat before tour started. I'm moving because there's no possible way that I can expand my life if I'm living in the shadow of, well, you two."

Zack's words didn't sink in well with Alex. As if Zack's attitude wasn't enough to piss him off, the very idea that Brooklyn actually gave him the time of day made his blood boil. Perhaps getting the last say was enough for Zack, but it wasn't enough for Alex. He wanted needed more than that.

Stealing the girl from Zack was wrong. But having Zack steal her back wasn't right.

"So what?" Alex snorted, doing his best to keep his gaze on Jack, "you two ended on good terms?"

"Something like that."

"All right," Alex nodded, a small smile forming on his lips. "That's great, dude. I'm happy for you."

"Piss off, Gaskarth."

As Zack walked away from the two, Alex sent a glance to his best friend.

Jack didn't have to ask to know that Alex was forming a plan in his mind. There was no way this could end well.

Notes

I'm guessing by the lack of comments that not many of my readers for this story are fans of smut. And that's okay.
But this chapter sucks and I'm sorry. I'm trying to break through some serious writer's block right now, so hang in there! <3.
