My Fair Chance

Caught Red-Handed

Alex stared at the ceiling, the dim lights not giving his mind much to work with as she sloshed around what was left of the wine in his brand new flask. His mind was lost, wandering through endless thoughts of why Zack would allow Brooklyn to share a hotel room with him for a night, especially since the two of them were an item now, but it did help to ease his guilt. Sweet, shy Zack had pretty much handed the girl off with a bow tied around her neck. If he allowed Alex to get his foot in the door of their relationship, well, Alex couldn't be the one totally at fault.

He sighed and rolled over on his side, watching Brooklyn's shadow dance from the light coming through the door across the room. No matter how close he thinks he's gotten to her, she always amazes him by pulling away. Watching a movie curled up together was innocent enough, but when she started to doze off, she reacted by jumping up and declaring she wanted to try out the hot tub before she called it a night. Alex kind of assumed she was only using it as an excuse to wake up enough to leave the room, but he'd settle for the small hope that she was actually going to sleep in the same bed as him tonight.

He'd waited patiently for her to exit the bathroom. An hour passed, then another half hour, when finally the door slowly opened and Brooklyn was dressed comfortably in a pair of snug shorts and a tank top. Alex knew these were clothes she had packed when she thought she was going to be spending the night with Zack, so he didn't want to freak her out by staring, but fuck did she look good. Not to mention, now he knew for sure she wasn't leaving him there alone.

"It's awesome, right?" Alex asked, quickly kicking the blankets down so he could crawl underneath them. He'd taken off his pants while the girl was gone and he seriously feared if he watched her walk across the room, he'd pitch a tent. "I told you it was amazing."

"I've been in a hot tub before, you know," she giggled, shaking her head as she sat on the edge of the bed. "Haven't you?"

"I have. It's just nice when you're by yourself in a fancy place."

"Alex, you're in a band. I find it highly unlikely you've never done anything like this before."
"Don't get me wrong, I have. But have you ever tried sharing a room with Jack? Or Rian? Or-"
"Zack?" Brooklyn finished for him, a soft sigh falling from her mouth. "Yeah, I guess I have."

The room grew silent and Alex was mentally punching himself in the face. It was almost like she'd set him up, though he couldn't fully believe that she wanted to think about Zack in a time like this. He knew he didn't, it just kind of happened. Inwardly groaning, Alex slipped further into the bed and tossed the remote by Brooklyn's side. He'd officially given up on a romantic night with the most beautiful girl he'd ever met.

Brooklyn didn't show it, but she was just as messed up as Alex was. She was thankful Zack allowed her to be here, but she also wanted him to man up and show that it concerned him. He should be afraid of losing her, shouldn't he? Isn't that how real relationships work? She didn't know, honestly, because she always flew where she found happiness. When that was gone, so was she. But these two boys, they had her head spinning.

With a frown, she shut of the television and sat the remote on the dresser. Her fingers gently dusted away the rose petals and removed the empty wine bottle from the bed. She crawled up to where Alex was and bent over him, just far enough to let her hand grasp the dimmer switch. She turned the lights down low, though there was still enough light to see, but barely. Content with the setting, she laid down beside of Alex and pulled the blankets over her body.
Alex stared over at her body, watching the way she pushed her hair back and wiggled her legs until she was perfectly comfortable. He was amused by the way she put one hand over her chest, while the other instantly went abover her head to cuddle with her cheek. It was almost like a look into her life. An obvious sign that this girl had spent many, many nights alone and learned to take care of and love herself when no one else was there to do it. A smile came tugging at his lips and he had to fight the desire to wrap an arm around her torso.

But he couldn't stop himself from speaking.

"Brooklyn?" Alex whispered, wishing the room wasn't so silent. "I'm really sorry if I've caused any problems for you and Zack. You guys do seem pretty happy together and I've never seen him fall so hard for a girl before. I just, I dunno. It's so obvious why he's falling for you. You're gorgeous, you're kind, you're funny, you're smart, you're talented.. You're all these things wrapped up into one incredibly free human being. It was never my intention to make you uncomfortable, but I can't sit here and lie to you.. I have every intention in the world of stealing you away from him. All else be damned. You were ment to be with me, Brooke. You belong to my heart."

Alex let out a loud sigh and furrowed his brows. That last part wasn't supposed to come out. He watched her closely, the way her eyes flickered around under her lids, the way her breathing seemed to pick up, every little detail that made him want to reach out and touch her.. But he couldn't.

Rolling over in his back, he mocked Brooklyn's actions and put his arms above his head. At the very least, she was still beside him. Knowing it wouldn't get any better than that, he let his eyes close slowly, the darkness in his head threatening to keep him awake.

And that's when he felt the bed shift.

He went to open his eyes, but his breath hitched in his throat when he felt the heat of Brooklyn's body on his waist. Her hands were on either side of his arms and her breath was dancing along his lips.

She didn't speak. She didn't give him time to react. Instead, she filled the space between them by passionately kissing his lips. It took a moment to register what was happening, but eventually Alex kissed her back, sliding his hands down the length of his body to grab her hips and pull her closer.

Every emotion between the two of them was suddenly out in the open. Brooklyn's hands were tugging at his hair while his own were squeezing her hips as she grinded down on him. A soft moan spilled from his mouth to hers as his tongue danced along her bottom lip in hopes of getting in.

She granted him access, trailing her perfectly painted nails down his neck and to his chest, where she yanked on his shirt, silently begging him to take it off.

And so he did.

He kept their lips locked as he sat up, pushing into her as he did so. She grunted gently, grinding back down on him just before he broke the kiss and slipped the shirt over his head. His mind was racing and his heart was pounding, but it was all worth it just to taste her on his lips.

The moment he tossed the shirt on the floor, he trailed a hand down her stomach and grabbed at her hip bone again, leaning forward to plant another kiss on her lips. Just before he could, however, she stuck her hand to her mouth and slid off of the bed.

"Oh God, I should not have done that," she murmured, flicking the lights back up as she made her way around the room, collecting her belongings in a hurry. "I am so sorry Alex. I don't know what got into me."

"Brooklyn, wait," Alex sighed, tossing the blankets aside. He grabbed his jeans and slid them over his body, watching her snatch her clutch and dart from the room. "Please! Just stop!"

"I can't. I'm sorry. This is all wrong. I'm-I'm with-" she was so flustered she could barely speak, digging through her bag to toss the key-card on the living room table. Her hand found the knob and she tore the door open, ignoring Alex's grumbled behind her. "-Zack?"

Her cheeks instantly turned red, guilt consuming her body when she came face-to-face with the one person she was supposed to be faithful to. He stood in the hallway, his eyebrow cocked and his hand raised to tap on the door.

"W-What's going on here?"
