My Fair Chance

You Can Stay If You Want To

"We just can't seem to thank you enough for everything you've done for us," Cass sighed, staring down at her ring finger, basking in the glow of her wedding. "So we've done the only thing we could think of."

The reception had ended only an hour ago, leaving only the closest friends and family to the bride and groom lingering to help clean up the joint before they slipt. Cassadee
and Rian were set to leave for their honeymoon in less than twenty minutes, which is why they'd taken it upon themselves to pull Brooklyn and Alex to the side for a special thank you.
Depsite the kind gesture, Alex didn't have to look over his shoulder to know that Zack was sending a glare his way. Brooklyn hadn't told him about the kiss, that much Alex was sure of, but he was also certain that Zack wasn't stupid. Brooklyn hadn't acted right since she returned from the bathroom and Alex hadn't bothered to come back to table, either. Even a stranger could feel the tension between the three of them.

"It's not much, since we didn't have a lot of time, but we booked you two the nicest suite at the hotel we stayed in last night. If you thought our rooms last night were amazing, you have no idea what you're in store for. We're talking one of those lucious circle beds, a hot tub, lights that you can dim, the whole nine yards."

"But that's not all," Cass squealed, taking over for Rian. "There'll be a surprise waiting for you!"

Alex looked to his left to see what Brooklyn thought about the whole thing and it was pretty obvious that she was having a mental argument with herself. She couldn't very well turn down the offer, as it'd already been paid for, but she didn't know if she was willing to share a room with Alex, knowing that Zack wasn't okay with it. She sighed, forcing a smile to her lips and pulled Cassadee into her arms.

"That is so sweet, thank you."

"Don't mention it. Now, if you'll excuse us," Rian smirked, sending a wink Alex's way, "we have a honeymoon to attend!"

Brooklyn and Alex waved their friends off, watching as they did a quick sweep of the room to hug and thank everyone for coming. At least now most of the mess had been cleaned up and everyone was starting to clear out with the newly weds.

"I'm going to the hotel just to say that I went and saw the surprise," Brooklyn snapped, keeping her eyes away from Alex's, "but don't expect me to stay."

"Ah, yes. Because you have a night of cuddling to do with Zack, right?"

"You know, for the two of you to be so close, you sure do talk down about him a lot."

"I'm not talking down about him. I'm just saying a girl like you can't possibly be happy with a guy who is so.. reserved."

"Zack's not reserved, he's polite."

"All right," Alex held his hands up in defense, though there was a smile playing on his lips. "If you're so secure in your relationship, you'll have no problem spending the night with me again."

"I have nothing to prove to you, Alexander."

"No.. But you might have something to prove to Zack."

Alex sent a nod to his friend, who was watching them closely and clapped his hand down on Brooklyn's shoulder. She shuddered to his touch, a frown coming to her lips as he walked away. Was there any right answer here? Alex was right, if she and Zack had that deep of a connection, another night with Alex wouldn't mean a thing. However, she had to admit, she felt something when he kissed her. Something so strong and powerful it literally took her breath away.

Of course she didn't tell Zack about it and never intended to. Even though Alex assumed otherwise, she and Zack still weren't together, she was just... Spoken for.

Shaking the thought of their kiss out of her mind, Brooklyn stood up straight and made her way to Zack, who was thankful that Alex was no longer around. He opened his arms and she fell into them, though she considered how different his scent was from Alex's.

"You ready to go?"

"Actually, Cass and Rian kind of booked a room for me and Alex to say thank you. I don't have to stay the night, but she said there was a surprise waiting for us so I at least have to show up."

"Oh," Zack frowned, releasing the girl from his grip. "Well, do you want to stay?"

"It wouldn't be right, Zack."

"Maybe not, but I trust you. Besides, it would be rude to turn them down on such a kind offer."

"You're really okay with this?"

"Only if you are."

Zack noticed the way her eyes lit up as she bent over to kiss his cheek. As he watched the beautiful girl leave the room, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. Indeed, he trusted her, but he did not trust Alex.. But she made her choice, despite how badly he wished she'd stay.
