Secrets and Lies

Chapter Twenty Nine

-Alex POV-

Last night I didn't drink as much as I usually did which meant this morning I didn't wake up with a hangover, my head felt perfectly fine and my stomach was well settled, not doing it's regular flips and churning like it would normally do after a party. I led perfectly still in between the silk sheets in the king size bed I'd slept in last night, not wanting to open my eyes and ruin the tranquility of the moment, it was perfect, I was at piece and I didn't want to move. But then the sound of arguing ruined it...that always seemed to happen whenever I'd slept near Vic and Jaime, were they arguing about me? Surely not, they accepted me last night, even Vic. It must be something else. I couldn't exactly make out the words as it wasn't just the two of them shouting, there were multiple people, and amoungst the voices, I pin pointed Jack's.

I snapped my eyes open to find the space next to me empty. How long had I been alone? When they hell did Jack leave and why didn't I notice? I grabbed my shirt and jeans off of the floor and shoved them on having slept in my boxer briefs, I used my phone's screen as a make-shift mirror as I attempted to sort my hair out, the hairspray from yesterday proving to make almost impossible, almost. I managed to get it roughly the way I wanted before I pressed my ear to the door, trying to get a better listen of what was going on.

''CAN'T YOU FUCKING SEE WHAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING TO YOURSELVES?!" I heard Jaime yelling...who was 'you guys' and what the hell were they doing?

''Back off, dude!" Jack replied calmly.

''NO! Vic god dammit if you won't do it for me, do it for your baby brother, he fucking looks up to you man!" Jaime said again, not bothering to really address Jack.

I heard a creak right outside of my door, wait, the guys weren't that close by, they were the other side of the house screaming at one another. I opened the door just a crack to see Kellin shifting the weight between his feet. ''We need to leave, Alex. C'mon.''

I didn't question him. I went back to grab my phone off of the bed and shoved it in my tight black pocket. I seemed to be the only one here that had no clue what was going on and I hated it, although, I figured Jack would tell me, we don't keep secrets. The curiosity was already eating it's way through me, what were they getting up to that kept causing Jaime to go insane about it? It must be something pretty bad.

Kellin led me around to the mini parking lot Pierce The Veil seemed to own and the lights flashed on one of the big black four by fours, signalling that it was his. We climbed in quickly, wanting to get far away from the sudden chaos. ''Where d'ya want to go?'' He asked, putting his key in the ignition.

Honestly? I wanted to go back in there and demand to know what was going on and why I wasn't allowed to know, but I didn't feel like facing confrontation so early in the morning. ''I'm staying at a hotel like 20 minutes away from here...The Peninsula I think it's called?'' I gave him a weak smile, not really knowing what to say to the guy I had barely spoken to and not knowing why he was getting me away from that place.

After five minutes of uncomfortable silence, I couldn't take it any longer, I needed answers. ''Dude, what the hell was that back there? Every time I'm around them, shit kicks off!"

''It's not your fault if that's what you're thinking,'' he said almost as soon as I'd finished my sentence. ''They just....haven't, yanno, grown up yet.''

''And who they hell is 'they'?'' I asked, now getting frustrated at him not giving a clear answer.

''Jack and Vic. They just...have some shit to sort out.'' He shrugged, keeping both hands gripped tightly on the steering wheel and his eyes fixed on the road.

''What kind of shit? Did they sleep together, what?'' As soon as the question left my mouth I mentally face palmed, I knew Jack wouldn't cheat, and Vic and Jaime were a seemingly strong couple, well, minus these arguments.

Kellin let out a heavy sigh and lolled his head back slightly, still paying attention to the traffic. ''It's not my place to say, but he wouldn't hurt you Alex, and Vic doesn't have it in him. Jack will tell you when the time's right, or if he even feels it's worth mentioning.''

Worth mentioning? If it's causing huge fights like this every time the two of them together, it's obviously something that needs to be talked about, but he knew the boy sat next to him was right, he had to respect Jack and whatever he was dealing with, he just needed to know that his boyfriend would be there no matter what. Then he got a flashback from the vacation that now seemed so long ago.

''We're not teenagers anymore, Vic! SNAP OUT OF IT! Kellin did, so why can't you?!"

I turned to look at him, his eyes still on the road. ''O-on holiday, they said something about you. You were involved, weren't you?''

He bit his lip nervously and nodded his head in disappointment. ''I hate to say it, but yeah. But that's because I had to change...for my baby girl. The others, I dunno, they think they're still sixteen. Look, Alex, as much as I want to tell you, I have to stick by my best friends and keep my mouth shut, I'm sorry.''

''It's fine, can I put the radio on or something?'' I asked, knowing that music would help drown out the feeling of being deceived, the feeling of being out of the loop. I knew music would put a smile on my face, just for those few minutes that a track was playing, it would feel like I was back on top of the world, back into the good reality, the one where I was writing my first album on my fist ever label, the one where I had been on tour and had air time, screaming fans that adored me and the music I stand for.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when 'Daydream Away' started to play. I instinctively went to turn the radio off but Kellin swatted my hand away and laughing wanting to listen.

I'd obviously heard my own song whilst it was being edited in the studio and they played it back to me numerous times to make sure it was the way I wanted it to sound, but now was different because now I would get to see someone's reaction in person and it just felt awkward. I felt like when your parents find your old baby photos and show them to your partner when they come over to your house for dinner, it was that kind of awkward.

As the last lyric faded and the guitar strummed out we pulled up outside of the hotel, I didn't really want to stick around to hear his criticisms so I grabbed the handle and swung the door open, nearly hitting a middle aged woman in the process. Kellin got a hold of my wrist, not letting me leave the car. ''It's about him, isn't it?'' He spoke quietly, almost at a whisper.

I wasn't sure of what to say so I just nodded slowly, thinking back to the days when that goofball wasn't in my life, and now I could say he was my boyfriend....not to the world, but to enough people to make me feel secure about it.

He shot me a knowing smile and let go of my wrist that he was still holding on to and offered me a hug which I accepted without hesitation, the smell of his cologne filling my nostrils as I placed my head over his shoulder. I now felt like I had made that connection with him and broken down those walls, he wasn't a stranger anymore, I'd made another friend in this crazy, crazy industry.

I refuse to remember reading the last chapter. NO NO NO JACK LIVED AND THEY GOT MARRIED. JACK LIVED AND THE WEDDING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND WENT ACCORDING TO PLAN. IT WAS BETTER THAN THEY IMAGINED IT EVER WOULD BE.
(Okay but to comment about something else and avoid my feels) This was very beautifully written. You are a fabulous writer and I hope that one day you publish books and become ridiculously famous. Like world wide famous. People from Canada, US, Russia... just everywhere, THE WORLD SHALL KNOW YOUR NAME AND WORSHIP YOU.
Sorry, got a little carried away there. Hahaha! But yeah, I love your writing and I wanted you to know. ^-^
