Fly Away With Me

Chapter 1

“Margo,” she cracked a small smile, “Margo Paisley.”
“Well Miss. Margo Paisley, I’m Gaskarth. Alex Gaskarth,” he said in a dramatic tone forcing her to giggle. All this felt as a once upon a time when boy meets girl moments. It was a sudden a coincidental moments that people would usually shrug off, not introduce themselves and hope for another future meeting.
It started as any other day for both Margo who was taking her shift at the library that she worked and spent a lot of her time and Alex who was then running errands for his mom who was out at work. With a November chill in the air and stacks of books that needed to return to their shelf, an accidental meeting occurred. With her paying too much attention searching for a specific spot and him looking for a cook book that his mom has been itching to get her hands on, they were a hit and a fall away from an introduction.
Margo slipped the two books with the author’s last name beginning with ‘S’ into the shelf. “Would you want help putting those away? I mean, I did accidently knock them out of your hand; the least I could do is help you put them away,” Alex offered. She turned with a little red hat on her head and a matching scarf around her neck and gave him a shy smile.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to,” Margo replied fixing the few books left in her hand.
“But I want to,” he smirked at her. She couldn’t help but give in letting him take a few of the books. “So, how do we do this?” Alex asked Margo who was scanning the cover of the book on top of the stack.
“You look at the author’s last name, and whatever the first few letters are, is the section where it goes. It’s okay, I’ll help you,” she said realizing the lack of skill she had at giving instructions. “Well, the first one you have is… The Mortal Instruments which is by Cassandra Clare.”
Margo led Alex over to the section of C’s. She helped him looked for where it would fit in being by an author with ‘Cla’. She tapped her finger on the shelf, “and you would just slip it in.” He did as she said slipping the book onto the shelf.
“I think it would be a good idea if you stuck around with me. Ya know, just so I put everything in the right place,” he winked. Margo didn’t try to keep her laugh quiet.
“Sounds like a pretty good idea,” she smiled and winked back at him. Turned out that didn’t turn out to be no ordinary day for Margo and Alex.

“If we die, we so aren’t sharing a funeral,” Margo said. Somehow, Alex and Margo managed to find some old tree house in the middle of the woods behind Alex’s house. After only taking about ten minutes to test its sturdiness, they figured why not go for it and climb up. It was shaking. In some ways, a little too shaky, yet that wasn’t enough to stop them.
“So you plan on sharing a funeral with me?” Alex countered looking around the wrecked tree house. It was small and overly beat. Planks of wood seemed as if they would break off with the slightest breeze with floors that could fall through with just a little more weight added.
“Not anymore,” Margo looked from the small window that seemed to be placed there purposely and not by breakage of planks. “You should fix this place up.”
“Me? Like me solo?” Alex turned to her with a face of disbelief.
“I mean, Jack could help you,” Margo replied waiting for a reply. Alex just raised his eyebrow at her. “Or I could help you,” Margo rolled her eyes giving in. She knocked on the wood lightly knowing that it would mostly likely give at any second.
It’s been a good 11 months since Margo and Alex first met at the library on the chilly November day. Eleven months since the hit and the fall and the introduction. Within those eleven months, things changed and things grew. Naturally, Margo and Alex grew closer. They fit in and easily slipped into each other’s life just as easily as the book in the library.
“Good thinking,” Alex said leaning back against one of the walls of the tree house careful not to put too much pressure on it. “So, you coming this weekend?”
“I don’t think I can,” Margo shrugged turning to him, “I mean, Jonathon asked me to do something later and plans on taking me to his family’s place tomorrow for dinner after his game. Wish I could, though.”
“Hey, you already met my family,” Alex joked,” but you’d rather chill with us than your boyfriend?” Alex asked her not expecting much of an answer. They all decided later that they would take a trip down to the shore for the weekend and camp out somewhere regardless of how freezing it would be. October would be ending soon, Halloween would be on Tuesday, and they figured that why not do something interesting and somewhat stupid to start off their senior year. For some reason though, Alex felt it would feel a little weird without Margo.
Margo sighed, “Well that’s something I wouldn’t really want to miss.”
“Then come.” Alex said it not only because it was something that Margo desired, but he desired to. He wanted Margo to come, because nothing’s the same without Miss. Margo Paisley.
“Easier said than done,” Margo snickered, “I mean, of course I want to hang out with my boyfriend, but how many people can say they went camping on the beach in the middle of October.”
“One more if you come,” Alex said, “but it would help if you decided soon, cause we pretty much got the bunking of tents down and car situation dealt with.” Alex was hoping that Margo would agree to come, and he could call the guys and let them know that there needed to be room for one more.
“I can’t,” she said almost in a mumble, “I’m tempted to, but I can’t. Can’t bail on him.”
“Understandable. Disappointing, but understandable,” Alex told her. He looked at her while she gazed out the window wondering what she was thinking. Sometimes, he could read Margo like an open book, but then there were those times that even his wildest guess wouldn’t come close to what was actually lingering through her mind.
She didn’t say anything right away. She eventually turned to Alex snapping out of whatever was taking over her mind, “We should get out of here before we get caught in a wreckage.”
Alex hopped down through the small door not bothering to use the ladder attached to the tree. He helped Margo make her way down to the ground; then they were on their way. They stopped by at Alex’s house real quick, so he could let him mom know that he was walking Margo home then heading to Jack’s house for the weekend. He didn’t plan on telling her that they were heading to the shore and wait until it possibly came up once they got back.
Alex already had all his stuff at Jack’s place, so he didn’t have to get it all together later. All they had left to do was load things into the car and head down. Alex was still hoping that Margo would maybe change her mind, but he didn’t see it coming. She knew it wouldn’t be good to ditch her boyfriend for her friends. Jonathon Palmer was the type of guy who lived what seemed to be a basic and simple life. Alex only knew a little about him. Things that Margo said and things that everyone else said.
He seemed like the type of guy who didn’t like change or interferences in his plans, like perfection was important to him. He didn’t seem like the type of guy Margo would necessarily be into. From what he heard and knew, Jonathon preferred to keep things safe and according to a plan. Things would flow easily, and if they didn’t wouldn’t necessarily have a fit, but he wouldn’t be too happy. To Alex, he seemed a little vapid and in a way stuck up, but then again, Alex wasn’t the one dating him.
From what Margo has said, he was a pretty good guy. He was trying to get a scholarship or something somewhere for soccer, and as she put it, he was a pretty interesting guy in actuality. He seemed to care about her quite a bit. He would take her on little dates and fancy dinners and pretty ‘oh my god’ things, and I could tell you, she seemed cared about him, too.
Margo lived in neighborhood that contained mostly of condos. She, her mom Kathy, her stepdad Alan, and her stepsister Carrie lived together which sounds like a pretty decent combo. Her mom was great and always welcomed Alex over and her stepdad was an okay guy with a seemingly easy flow, but Margo would rather stay out of her place since the relationship between Kathy and Alan was rocky. They were one disagreement away from a divorce. They seemed to butt heads over the littlest things resulting in tension and Kathy staying up in the bedroom and Alan down in the basement. Luckily, Margo had a good enough relationship with both of them where they tried to keep the arguing away from her and tried hard to keep a good attitude for her and Carrie.
“Hey, tell me how it is later, and text me!” Margo said turning to walk in the house.
“Will do,” Alex replied, “lemme know if you change your mind!” Margo gave me a thumbs up before shutting the door behind her. Alex turned pulling out his phone. Next stop, Jack’s house.
