Lullabies

"Baby! Are you ok?!" I yell freaking out. "Do you need me to get the nurse?" Maybe it's time for the baby to be born. I know they said it's gonna be a while, but what if they were wrong? What if she was coming sooner than we expected.

"Yes Alex, I'm fine. Don't need to go get anyone." She answers. "Just another contraction. I've been doing this all day. Just so you know. I'm used to it." Awww my poor baby. I couldn't imagine her in this pain all day. That made me impatient for the baby not only to see her, but to get Megan out of pain. I stayed with her the entire time until 9 pm when I had to go home again. I left occasionally throughout the day so they could check her dilation. When I had to go home, I got bummed. I really just wanted to stay. I didn't know what to do without her. At least now it was Friday, so I could come first thing in the morning.

"Well babe. I'll be up all night thinking about you. Can't believe its already been 26 hours." I say, though I'm sure 26 hours for her is like eternity. "If you go in labor, I don't care what time it is, call me. I'll answer." Wait, isn't she already in labor? Whatever.

"Well, I can believe its been 26 hours for one, and 2 ok I will. I'm getting this feeling I will go into labor sometime tonight. Bye I love you." She answers. I had this feeling that she was in so much pain, she wasn't thinking about what she was saying because she's already in labor.

"I love you too baby." I respond. I then said my goodbyes, gave her a kiss then left. I got in my car and headed home. The nurses had said she was more than likely going to give birth tonight, but they still didn't let me stay. I really just wanted to stay with her. I knew that there was no way she enjoyed being all alone like that. Luckily, they said when she was ready to have the baby, she could call me to have me come. When I got home, I went straight to bed. The night was going so slowly, knowing that by the end of tonight I would be a more than likely be a father. I ended up falling asleep at some point in the night. I was in a deep sleep, but I then heard my phone ringing. I had a feeling it was late, and I didn't know who could be calling me. I looked over and it was Megan. I got up extremely fast and answered the phone.

"Hey baby, how you doing?" I ask instantly. "Do you need me to get you something?" I assumed maybe she just wanted me to pick her something up and bring it to her since I did that a lot throughout the pregnancy, regardless of what time it was.

"No, Alex she's ready." She tells me. "The baby's ready. The baby is coming." Oh my God, tonight's the night. We're going to become parents tonight. "The nurses said to call you so you can get here in time if you want to be here. But, hurry, there's not much time left." I could hear it in her voice that she was in pain.

"Oh my God! Ok I'll be there as soon as I can, I'm leaving now." I answer a little freaked out. I then hang up as I'm running downstairs faster than I ever have before.

"What's going on?" My mom asks. "It's 2:30 in the morning Alex."

"I know." I answer still hurrying. "Megan's having the baby. I've got to go." I then ran out the door and shut it as soft as I could. I hopped in my car and drove to the hospital as fast as I could. I'll admit, I was speeding a little but I needed to get there as soon as possible I got there shortly after I had called. It was now 2:45 am and I was waiting there with Megan. I could tell by her looks that she was in pain.
