She's been running through my dreams
Bernice Mathews was short, barely five-three, with hair the colour of burgundy and a pair of eyes that seemed much too large for her face. She was my roommate, and moved in in a flurry of bright colours, dyed feathers and leapord print leotards.
I was on my bed when she tumbled into the room, luggage and other paraphernelia in tow. I jumped a mile in the air, of course. It was only natural to be startled by the sight of a walking pile of books, feather scarves and various sized boxes.
"What in the world?" I yelped in clear Russian.
Bernice lowered the pile in her arms and peered at me from behind dark red, horn rimmed glasses.
"And who are you?"
I brushed my laptop off my lap and got to my feet. I was torn between offering to help, and screaming for the sudden intrusion. It wasn't everyday that I had a cacophony of loud colours rushing into my room. The politeness, thankfully, won out.
"Anya," I told her, stuttering, "My name is Anya."
Bernice's lips pulled into a teeth baring grin. Throwing everything onto her bed, she extended a small, pale hand. "My name is Bernice. I guess we'll be rooming together for this semester."
I forced a smile back. "I hope we will be okay."
She wriggled her eyebrows"We'll have the time of our lives."
