Update Me

Christmas has passed and from there, the new year quickly rolled in. In just a couple of weeks, I will be back and able to be there at her baby shower. The baby shower is set for two days after I get back and I could not be more excited.

"How you feeling?" I asked that afternoon.

"Okay, I guess. I'm having headaches and I'm not myself aka I'm a bit of a klutz and forgetful. Not to mention, I'm almost constantly in a cami and shorts. Could be worse."

"Still sucks though."

"Yeah. How are things going on your end?”

“Great, but I’m anxious. You’re at a point where you really could go into preterm labor and I’m not there for it.”

That’s a scary thought, but that’s also one Jack had when Miranda was nearing her due date.

“It’ll be okay. I’ve been spending a lot of time with Miranda and the baby, so if I do, I’ll be able to get to the hospital quickly.”

“If this happens before I get home, Scarlett better wait for her daddy to get there.”

She laughed.

“I’ll tell her to do that if I absolutely need to.”

“Thank you.” I said, laughing.

She smiled.

“How about our little one?”

“Very active as usual and she still listens to music everyday. We might have a musician on our hands one day.”

“I have no complaints about that. She listening to anything new?”

“Nope.”

“What’s she listening to today?”

“Paramore. One of Mommy’s favorite bands.”

I smiled.

“That’s a fantastic choice.”

“I thought so.” she said, rubbed her belly.

Pause.

“Baby girl kicked again.”

“I love you, Scarlett.”

These last two weeks are going to be torture, but I can handle it. Right? We spoke for roughly ten more minutes before she let me go. I walked outside despite how cold it was in search of something to eat.

“Hey. How’s my sister-in-law? My niece?” I overheard Jack.

I turned around and saw him walking toward me.

“Okay. Just dealing with the ‘perks’ of being in her third trimester and Scarlett’s wonderful. Abby has her listening to Paramore today.” I said, knowing he’d know what I meant.

“Great choice. She still kick every time she hears your voice?”

“Like clockwork.”

“You sing to her, yet?”

“Not yet.”

“That’s such a shame. She’ll love your singing voice.”

I smiled.

“I hope so.”

“I know so. You’ve heard mine. It’s terrible.”

I laughed, knowing how true that statement was. By the end of the day, I could not wait to talk to Abby about her day.

“Hey.”

“Hey, baby.”

“How was your day?”

“It was amazing. Absolutely amazing.”

She sounded very excited.

“What happened?”

“My mom and Tyler are moving to California.”

“When?”

“Before Scarlett’s born.”

“That is so wonderful.”

I was grinning from ear-to-ear.

“She can’t be away from me and our daughter any longer.”

“Anything else?”

“They’re moving their wedding to May, so I’m gonna have to shed this weight quickly.”

“You can do it.”

“I know. Oh, and Kendra surprised me with a visit today, so I’m exhausted.”

“I’m glad you had such a great day, babe.”

“Did you?”

“Not nearly as great as yours, but it was pretty decent.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”
