Thrive - Side 2

You Light Up the Room

You Light Up the Room

The following week, we were set to do acoustic performances and in-store signings which are things I love doing. Meanwhile, Abby and I are focusing on having kids because what better time than now? We’re the happiest we’ve been in this relationship, after all.

Today, I’m out grocery shopping while Abby’s taking care of household duties; we take turns with these duties. When I came home, I heard the familiar sound of a song that has recently been released; I smirked and walked through the living room.

“Hey, guys. Where’s Mama?” I asked, greeting Baz and Peyton.

I walked into the dining room to find her wiping down the table.

"How long have you been standing there?" she said startled.

She placed a hand over her heart and looked at me.

"Since the beginning of that song. Let it play."

"Alex..."

"Please. I love it when you sing along to our music."

It’s true. I love hearing singing any out of music along with anything else she decides to sing. She bit her lip as she thought about it.

"You're so lucky I love you. You can hear it once we get the groceries in the house."

I was ecstatic.

"We? I'm gonna bring them in."

Just as she opened her mouth to speak, I interrupted her.

"No. I'll take care of this. You've been cleaning, babe."

"Ok."

Ten minutes later, I heard Abby roll the sweeper down the hallway, to put it away while I entered the kitchen to get a drink; I walked into the dining room and sat down.

"I'm done." I overheard her.

She walked into the dining room to find me sitting with my feet propped up on another chair.

"Awesome."

"Can I sit here?"

"What's the magic word?"

She rolled her eyes.

"Please."

"Nope. Try again." I said with a smug look on my face.

"You're a dick."

"That's too many words."

"How about..."

Instead of actually asking the question, she sat in my lap, trying to get me to change his mind or irritate me; either way, it was mean. She pressed her lips to mine and placed my hands on her hips; I gripped them and moved my feet, so she could sit. When I did what she wanted, I was sure to have had a sad and pathetic look on my face.

"Have I ever told you that you're mean?"

"A few times, yes."

She propped her feet up on my legs to further irritate me.

"Really mean."

She laughed.

In response, I began tickling her feet and wouldn't let them go.

"Come on, Alex. Stop." she said in a not so serious voice.

"Nope."

"For fuck sake's, let them go."

She was moody now.

"I'm not gonna play that song if you don't stop."

"You’re lying.”

“I’m not.”

When I saw her phone beside her, I reached for it and grabbed it.

“Give it, asshole.”

I simply stared at her.

“I’m not kidding. Can I just have it?” she asked, sighing.

After seeing the look on her face, I gave Abby her phone back and let her go.

“Thank you.” she said annoyedly.

She got off the chair and went to the fridge to get something to drink.

“I thought you were gonna-“

“Chill out a minute. I’m thirsty. Cleaning’s a lot of work.”

I sighed.

Come on…

“You’ll be okay.” she said, giving me a sympathetic look.

Once she took a drink, she finally restarted the song and I smiled, taking in the moment; I enjoyed every single second.

Step outside in the midnight rain
King 'n queen of the streets again
Got young blood running through our veins
And it keeps us numb like novocaine

Alright
We can go all night
'Cause we got a whole lot of fight in us
And I see a long road
That we gotta follow
Before tomorrow catches up

Oh, just take it easy
Hold onto this feeling
All our friends are leaving
And we ain't got nowhere to go
Caught up in the afterglow

"Can't stay here, but ya can't go home"
Did you hear that line somewhere before?
And you look just fine on your own
But we look better in the afterglow

Alright
We can go all night
'Cause we got a whole lot of fight in us
And I see a long road
That we gotta follow
Before tomorrow catches up

Oh, just take it easy
Hold onto this feeling
All our friends are leaving
But we ain't got nowhere to go
Caught up in the afterglow

We ain't got nowhere to go
Caught up in the afterglow
Oh, just take it easy
Hold onto this feeling
No, we don't need a reason
'Cause we ain't got nowhere to go
Caught up in the afterglow

When the lights go down
Come find me in the afterglow
Waiting to be found
I'll meet you in the afterglow

When the lights go down
Come find me in the afterglow
Waiting to be found
I'll meet you in the afterglow

I pressed my lips to hers when the song was over and took her by surprise, but she brought me closer to her. I picked her up and set her on the table.

“I love you.” I said, touching her face.

“I love you, too. Hey. I need to talk to you about something.”

“Is everything okay?”

“Great. You know how we said we were gonna wing it with us having kids?”

“Of course.”

“I’m keeping track of what days I’m most fertile.”

“You can do that?”

“Yes.”

“So, what days are you good for this month?”

“It started with yesterday and ends on Wednesday.”

“Sounds like we’re gonna have a lot of sex.”

“I have no complaints.” she said, kissing me once again.

“Wanna start now?”

“Absolutely.”

I picked her up and off we went to our bedroom.
