Sanctuary - Side 2

Always There for Me

It’s my birthday and I have no idea what Abby has planned for me. I woke to an empty bed, so I suspected that she was making breakfast. I called out for her and it wasn't long after that as she brought in breakfast; it consisted of omelets with steak and blueberry muffins.

“Good morning, Alex.” she said as I sat up in bed.

“Good morning.” I said, smiling.

“Did you sleep good?”

“I slept great.”

“Good to hear. You’re in for a big day, today.”

“What’s for breakfast?”

She set it in front of me and took a seat on the bed.

“Steak omelet, toast and orange juice. There’s also something sweet waiting for you in the kitchen.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s a surprise.”

I dug into my food and had a look of pleasure on my face.

“You are the best.”

She smiled.

“I was thinking about making the usual western omelet, but since this is your birthday, I figured I’d make something different.”

“It’s absolutely delicious. Thank you.”

“My pleasure. Cooking’s what I do for a living, after all.”

“I can tell it’s made with a lot of love.”

She was speechless.

“Would you like a bite?”

“Are you sure?”

She was echoing the same words I asked on her birthday.

“Of course.”

“Then, yes.”

I put a piece in her mouth and she licked her lips after she chewed.

“Fuck. I am amazing. Oh, that came out conceited, I apologize.”

I laughed.

“If that was said to just about anyone else, it would.”

“Guess you’re right.”

“So, what are the plans for today?”

“I can’t tell you that. All I can tell you is that there’s gonna be cake.”

I sighed.

“Really?”

“Yes. Really. Just eat your breakfast, sweetie." she said, pinching my cheek.

I shooed away her hand and she laughed.

"Am I in for a great day?"

"That is one of the dumbest questions I've ever heard."

Five minutes later, I gave her the tray, so she could take it to the kitchen. When she came back and was standing in the doorway, I ambushed her and had my arms around her, therefore scaring the shit out of her.

"You scared me, you ass." she said, smacking my thigh.

She tried to make it sound like she was mad, but she couldn't keep a straight look on my face as she turned to face me.

"I'm sorry." I mumbled into her neck.

"Apology accepted. You're lucky that you're so damn cute."

She kissed me and I returned the favor. She fully turned around and wrapped her arms around my neck and legs around my waist, continuing to kiss me while I tried to direct us to our bed because I knew that's where we both wanted to be. When I stumbled, we fell onto the bed and laughed; it didn't last long as I reconnected our lips and my hand strayed to her ass, giving it a nice squeeze.

“A little to the left, birthday boy.” she said, pulling apart.

I smirked and did so. When I was above her pussy, she spoke again.

“And downward.”

She took hold of my hand and I got the picture and I traveled then began to rub her in circles. She moaned into my neck as I started to take her pants off.

“Help me please.” I whispered into her ear.

She proceeded to press down on my crotch before I did anything.

“Abby.” I gasped.

She smirked before she got up to take them off while I took off my own. We both went further and removed the rest of our clothes.

“How do you wanna do this? It is your birthday after all.”

“My choice?”

“Your. Choice.”

“Something new. Just like we tried another way for oral sex a couple of weeks ago.”

I explained how she needed to be in position and she loved it. She propped up on her elbow and had her legs slightly bent while I kneeled in between her positioned left leg, so I could enter her.

“Ready?” I asked, keeping hold of her left knee.

“Yes.”

The second I penetrated her, she cried out in pleasure.

“Alex.”

She kept grasping at the sheets with me going in and out. She did start with her hand on my knee, but it was hard to keep it there. She looked up at me and saw a similar look on my face and that intensified the experience.

“Oh my God.”

She threw her head back as she came close to orgasm. She placed a lot of pressure on my leg before she came.

“Please add that to the list of favorite sex positions.”

I laughed.

“I’ll gladly do that.”

We untangled and sat down on the bed and faced each other.

“Happy Birthday, Alex.” she said, leaning in to kiss me.

“Thank you, Abby.”

It was past four o'clock when Abby walked into the bedroom to see me laying out his clothes.

“Hey.” she said.

“Hey. Looking good.”

She was in only a towel.

“Thanks, perv.”

I laughed.

“I wish you could go like that.”

“You’re ridiculous.” she said, shaking her head.

I smiled.

“Are you excited?”

“Extremely, even though I don’t know where we’re going to.”

“So am I. I’m gonna go ahead and say this will be your best birthday yet.”

“That’s a bold statement.”

“But I feel confident about it.”

“I’m going to take your word for it because your words are as good as gold.”

She stood on her tippy toes and kissed me. After I showered and dressed, I must’ve focused on his hair for fifteen minutes; I always have to have my hair perfect.

“You look amazing.” she said as I finished my hair.

She was looking in the mirror and kissed me on the cheek.

“I do?”

I have certainly my insecurities which includes my appearance.

“No doubting yourself. If I say you look amazing, it’s true.”

I nodded.

“You look pretty damn amazing yourself.”

Within fifteen minutes, we were in her car and on our way to the unknown destination... well, unknown to me. When we pulled into the parking lot, it wasn't one of a restaurant, so I was confused.

"Why are we at a hotel, Abby?"

"Just follow me." she said, grabbing my hand.

We walked into the lobby and she had to give them her name in order to enter the doors to the right. She opened to a room full of people.

"Surprise!" I heard an echo throughout the room.

I was taken by surprise; when I saw my mom and dad, I smiled and hugged her.

“I love you.” I said.

“I love you, too.”

We walked further in and toward where my parents were.

“Did you do all this?”

“With a little help from Jack. He picked your parents up at the airport.”

“I have to remember to thank him.”

She smiled. The smile on my face grew even more as I went to greet them; Abby patiently waited so I could say my hellos.

“Abby! It’s great to see you!” my mom said.

“It’s great to see you. The both of you, actually.”

“Thanks for inviting us.” my dad said.

“I don’t know how I couldn’t. He’s done so much for me that I had something like this for him.”

I was blushing.

“When did you start planning this?” I asked.

“A couple of weeks ago. I started talking to Jack about this and he was 100% behind it.”

I kissed her cheek.

“You’re the best, Abby Shaw.”

She blushed.

“You have a great fiancée here, Alexander.” my mom said smiling.

“I second that.” my dad said.

After another few minutes of conversation, we went to greet the other party planner and his girlfriend. Abby hugged her first while I hugged Jack.

“So, what do you think?” he asked.

“I love this. It totally came out of the blue.”

“How are your mom and dad? You looked pretty damn happy to see him.”

“They’re fantastic. They couldn’t be happier to be here.”

“I’m happy for you, man.”

“Thank you.”

My friendship with Jack reminded me a lot of Miranda and Abby’s friendship.

“You did so good, hun. Fiancée of the year if you ask me.”

“My future inlaws seem to think that.”

“Yeah?”

“They told Alex that he had a great fiancée like five minutes or so ago.”

“You tell them about you reconciling with your mom?”

“I did.”

“What did they think?”

“They were relieved and can’t wait to meet her, especially Isobel.”

“Well, I have no doubts they’re gonna love her.”

“Me either.”

I turned to Abby.

“I’m gonna go talk to the guys. I’ll be back.” I said before kissing her

"Ok." she said, kissing me back.

She smiled and I walked away. Ten minutes later, she let everybody know that they could head to the buffet to eat. She sat for a few minutes while people filled their plates; I lightly touched her shoulder to get her attention.

“Hey.” she said.

“Hey.”

“How are the guys?”

“Great. They’re huge fans of you right now, well even more so.”

I sat beside her and pulled her close as I kissed her cheek.

“That means a lot coming from then. They’re awesome.”

“Are you ready to eat? I can make a plate for you.” she offered.

“You’ve done so much for me already. I’ll get mine. Can I get you yours?”

She smiled.

“No. I’ll get my own, but thank you.”

When Abby came back, I was in deep conversation with my parents. My dad mentioned my brother’s name, taking me by surprise, and I attempted to look like I was fine when I truly wasn't. When it comes to certain holidays, his birthday and my birthday, those days are particularly difficult for me even if I don't let it show.

“Everything delicious?” she asked with a smile.

“It’s a wonderful feast. my mom said.

“Absolutely.” ny dad said.

“That’s good to hear.”

“Amazing, babe.” I said.

I put my fork down and squeezed her hand that was still below the table. She kissed my cheek and squeezed back to let me know that she understood how I was truly feeling.

“I’ll be back soon. I need some air.” I said directly to her.

It was shortly before the singing of ‘Happy Birthday’ and serving of cake.

“Ok.” she said, nodding.

I was on the verge of breaking down as I walked outside and into the parking lot. I was sitting on a curb in the parking lot with my head in my hands. My chest was moving rapidly; I was having an anxiety attack.

“Alex.” Abby whispered.

I didn’t move or say anything. She quietly approached me and sat down beside me. She placed her hand on my thigh; I responded by putting my hand on top of her and intertwined our fingers.

“I miss him.”

My voice was cracking.

“I know, baby.”

“It’s so hard celebrating a day like this and not having him here. I hate it. He should be here. It’s not fair that I can be this happy and he can’t.”

I looked up and shown my face; his eyes were surely bloodshot and my cheeks were tearstained. I laid my head on her shoulder and I laid mine on top of hers.

“I can’t say I understand what happened and the type of pain you’re going through, but I do know he would want you to be happy right now. I want you to be happy right now. You’re an amazing person, Alex.”

She lifted her head to see my reaction. I faintly smiled.

“I love you.” I said.

More than you will ever know.

“I love you, too.”

“I don’t think I can go back in here, not like this.” I sighed.

“We don’t have to if you don’t want to. I’ll let them know you weren’t feeling well and had to go home.”

“But there’s cake.”

She started to laugh which caused me to do the same.

“That’s quite a dilemma.” she said.

“It is.”

I turned to her and kissed her. She kissed me back deepening the kiss, wrapping her arms around my neck while I wrapped my arms around her waist. We stayed like this until she felt my phone vibrate.

“Damnit.”

“Who is it?”

She looked at the phone to see a text from Jack.

“Jack. He’s wondering if everything’s okay. He asked where you were right before I came out here.”

“We should go in, then.”

“You sure? We can stay if you’d like.”

“Yeah. Let’s go.”

I took her hand in mine and we got up and made our way back to the party.

“How do I look?” I said wiping my eyes.

We were about to open the party doors.

“Great.”

I nodded.

We walked in and saw everybody pretty much the same way prior to when I excused myself. When we started walking toward our table, my mom got up and went to hug me; it's like she knew what had happened; to say I was taken by surprise, would be an understatement.

"I'm okay, Mom."

"Are you? Is he?" she asked.

"I am. Trust me."

"He's okay. I made sure of it."

"She made sure of it." I said echoing Abby.

"Alright. I believe you, Alex."

When she let me go, I walked toward the table.

"What'd you and my mom talk about?" I asked as Abby finally sat down.

"I'll talk to you about it later, but I will say it's the best conversation she and I ever had."

I smiled and kissed her cheek.

"This is a stupid question, but are you ready for terrible singing and cake?"

I laughed.

"Yes."

We huddled around the table and sung while she stood right beside me. I blew out the candles and pulled her close.

“What did you wish for?” she asked as we started to cut cake.

“You know I can’t tell you that.”

“It was worth a try.”

“What is it?” I asked after she served me cake.

“I had a vision of us and our wedding cake.”

I kissed the top of her head. She smiled up toward me and kissed me; I smiled back at her. After serving up cake to everyone, we sat down and ate.

“Are you okay? I was worried when you were gone for ten minutes and didn’t come back.” Jack asked.

“Absolutely. Abby knew how I was feeling when I decided to get some air, so she made sure I was alright before we came back.”

“That’s such a relief.”

The rest of the party went well and when it was time to go home, I couldn’t have been happier.

“What did you think of today?” she asked lying on the bed beside me.

“Aside from my breakdown, it was amazing. Thank you. Thank you so much.”

She looked up and kissed me.

“Happy Birthday, Alex.”

She buried her head into my chest and got comfortable, falling asleep in no time.
