Back to My Heart

Simply the Best

Two months have passed since I returned home to the love of my life and things have never been better but in a couple of weeks, All Time Low will be going back on tour. They did play the first three dates on the last Warped Tour, but this is different. This time, it'll be just me here in this beautiful house of ours for less than a month, but I can handle it; I was without him for six long years, after all. Today, however, is bound to be a great day because I am heading out to do a little shopping and get my nails done as well before dinner tonight.

"Someone's happy today." Zack said as I got dressed.

"I am! I'm gonna have a girls day before I come home to you."

"Sounds like the perfect day."

"It does. Doesn't it?" I said climbing into his lap.

"Absolutely." he said before kissing me.

He ran his hands up and down my back, making sure to flirt with my bra; who knows what he would've done if I didn't have a bra on because I may not leave the house.

"Have a good day. I love you." he said.

"You too. Love you, too."

I walked out the door and headed to my car; I was going to pick up one of my friends aka my friend who I met when I initially moved to Hawaii with Zack.

“Hey girl.” she said getting in my car.

“Hey. What’s up?”

“Not much. I’m just excited about today.”

“And tonight. You and your beau are heading to dinner tonight. Right?”

“Yep and he told me we were going to a really nice restaurant, so I plan on buying a new dress. Surprise him.”

“I don’t know if you can surprise him nearly as much as when you came back.”

“It’s worth a try.”

We started with lunch and decided to shop before getting our nails done. The second we stepped into a dress shop, my mood went up even more; it didn’t take long until I found the perfect dress.

“Violet, come over here.” I said, gesturing.

“Damn, girl. You need to go try that on.”

I eagerly picked it off the rack and headed to the dressing room. Looking in the mirror, I couldn’t help but smile. When I stepped out, she jumped out of her chair and hugged me.

“You look so fucking hot. Zack is gonna die.”

“I hope not. I wanna spend the rest of my life with that man.”

“I’m so surprised he hasn’t proposed yet.”

“I just got back together with him a few months ago after ditching my fiancé.”

“Do you need the same talk your mom gave you?”

I rolled my eyes.

“No.”

“Ok then.”

After my girls' day, I went home to find two dozen roses on the kitchen island. I smiled and was about to look for Zack, but I didn’t even have the chance to because I felt his arms around my waist.

“Hey. What’s with the flowers?” I asked.

“I can’t just buy my beautiful girlfriend roses?” he said kissing the top of my head.

“Of course. I was just surprised is all.”

I turned around and stood slightly on my toes to kiss him.

“That’s a relief.”

“Thank you. I love you.”

“My pleasure. I love you, too.”

“I had a great day, today.”

“You did?”

“I found the perfect dress. You are gonna love it.”

“I have no doubts about that. You look amazing in anything you wear.”

If my heart didn’t jump at that moment, I would’ve been shocked.

“You’re amazing.”

Come six-thirty, I was about ready to head out for dinner with Zack. He, on the other hand, was ready and waiting downstairs. He knows how much I like to take my time before I leave the house; he's known this since we were teenagers, so he's perfectly fine with it. I was making sure my dress fit just right and wasn't showing too much. I took a deep breath before I walked down the stairs.

"Zack?"

He was doing something on his phone and not moving a muscle while he sat on the couch. When I reached him, I stood behind him and whispered his name into his ear. Startled, he turned around and stood up.

"This is the dress." he said looking at me from head to toe.

"Yes. It is. What do you think?" I said, spinning around.

"It's perfect. You're perfect. I'm speechless."

"Thank you."

"My pleasure. Ready to go?"

"Yeah. Definitely."

I kissed his cheek and we made our way out the door. I felt like a princess as I walked out into the restaurant with the most handsome man alive.

“I don’t know how I’m gonna keep my eyes off of you tonight or focus on dinner.”

“You’re just gonna have to, honey.” I said, smirking.

A great deal of dinner, Zack seemed a bit anxious which puzzled me; what in the world would have him feeling this way? I placed my hand on his to calm him.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong. Trust me.”

“Ok.” I said, nodding.

The rest of the dinner went well, including dessert, but I could still sense that Zack was anxious.

“Wanna go for a drive?” he asked as he shut his door.

“I would love that.”

“Fantastic.”

It was odd going for a drive at night, but I'd follow that man anywhere, anytime. We drove up to that cliff Zack always loves to go to and my heart began to race; it was also where I found him when I came back after six long years.

What’s happening?

“Zack? What’s uh... what’s going on?” I asked as he opened my door.

“Just take my hand.”

And, of course, I did. I walked with him to the very spot I found him that day. He let my hand go and got down on one knee.

Oh my God.

“Astrid Daisy Morrison, we've certainly had our struggles over the past twenty-plus years, including a six-year separation, but ever since we reunited, our relationship has only gotten stronger. I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

"Yes. Yes. I absolutely will." I said with tears in my eyes.

With a huge smile, he placed the ring on my finger and picked me up. I crashed my lips onto his and wrapped my arms and legs around him.

"I love you. I love you more than anything." I said.

A few tears managed to travel down my face during all of this and I was sure that my makeup was smudged.

"You wanna go celebrate?" he said with me still in his arms.

"There's nothing more I want to do right now."

"Let's get on that, then."

He kissed me one more time before setting me down. We soon got back into his car and drove home all the while I couldn’t help but marvel at my engagement ring. It was much nicer than the one my ex gave me when he proposed, but that’s not saying I didn’t like the ring, I did, I loved it; it just wasn’t like this one.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked after we had sex.

"Always."

"How long have you been planning this?"

"Well, I knew I wanted to marry you when you came back, but obviously that was too fast. So, I wanted to give us some time which is crazy since we hadn't seen each other in six years.

I looked up at him while he ran his hand through my hair.

"For the past two weeks, I was planning everything; when to propose, where to go for dinner, where to propose and what I was going to say. The latter was the hardest because there was so much I wanted to say, but I didn't want to just ramble on."

"And I would've been fine with that. I knew that no matter what you said or however long it took you to do so, I would've said yes."

“Really?”

“Of course. You mean the world to me.”

I sat up slightly and kissed him. I could not wait to marry him; it’s overdue.
