Alex’s POV

I got home and started to make Meredith and Noah’s dinner since they was easy to please when it came to food I was going to give them something simple to eat because I really couldn’t be bothered to cook in the first place but I had to at the same time.
I walked into the sitting room where Meredith and Noah was both watching tv with the subtitles on.
I used this time to get back up and go to get my bag and get my homework and to sit down with the kids to do my homework while I waited for their dinner to cook.
Once they had their dinner they both sorted themselves out and went to bed and it left me in peace for when mum and dad came home.

I was busy watching something on the Telly when mum and dad came home.
Mum walked into the sitting room and looked at me.
‘Where is little ones?’ Mum signed and I looked at her with a frown.
‘Bed, like they always are when you and dad come home.’ I signed and mum looked at me so she could look at what my face was also saying.
‘Me and you father can’t help the hours we work.’ Mum signed and I sighed loudly.
‘Yes you can! You can say you have children to look after and not relie on me all the fucking time!’ I signed angrily.
‘I have a life as well! I am not your babysitter!’ I carried on signing but really all I wanted to do is shout, even though I could shout mum couldn’t hear me and I knew she would try to read my lips but with my hands waving around the place it was hard to read my lips.
‘You think I don’t want to be home with you and he little ones? I would love to be home and cook for them.’ Mum signed and I just shook my head and walked out the room and mum caught hold of my hand and I looked at her.
‘You need to change your priorities.’ I signed to Mum and pulled my hand out of her hold and I grabbed my stuff and went for a walk to clear my head.

I was sat in this field when I heard someone clear their throat and I looked up and saw Jack.
“Thought the place your staying would have you locked in a room.” I said and Jack sat down next to me.
“I don’t like the home, so it’s only a matter of time before the police find me and I get thrown back into jail.” Jack said and I frowned at him.
“I have this bad boy round my ankle.” Jack said as he lifted his jeans up and I saw his tag round his ankle.
“Aren’t the police going to be looking for you?” I asked and Jack chuckled as he lead back in the grass.
“I’m known for running away when I am at places I don’t like. Anyway they know I hide in the fields so they will normally look here last when looking for me.” Jack said and I looked at him.
“So why are you out here then?” Jack asked and I sighed as I looked down.
“Just some shit went down at home and I just needed to walk away.” I said which made Jack frown at me.
“Just because my family is deaf doesn’t mean we don’t fight.” I said as I lead down in the grass next to Jack.
“So I don’t understand why you can hear and your family are deaf.” Jack said and I looked at him.
“They Thought I was deaf until I was like 7 and after doing some test they then realized I wasn’t deaf and then with a whole lot of therapy I learnt how to talk.” I said as I looked down and I felt Jack look at me.
“Well if it makes you feel any better I’m glad you can talk and not do that hand shit otherwise this conversation and life in general would be very boring.” Jack said and I smiled slightly to myself.
“That hand shit is called sign language and it can get you out of trouble if you really want to play the whole I’m deaf card.” I said as I sat up and Jack did the same.
“Really, Maybe you’ll have to teach me.” Jack said and I chuckled to myself.
“I think you are in a Enough shit with the police for them to know you’re not deaf, but nice try though.” I said and I heard something in the field.
“Yeah but the police is literally my family so yeah.” Jack said and then someone cleared their throat and we both looked up and saw a police officer.
“Ah shit you guys found me sooner than what I thought.” Jack said and I just rolled my eyes as I stood up.
“Both of you need to go home.”The officer said and he looked at me a bit longer and he worked out who I was.
“How things going Alex?” The officer asked and I looked down slightly.
“Things are good.” I said quietly and I could feel Jack looking and dying to ask questions.
“Jack you should be at home.” The officer said and Jack stood up and stood next to me.
“That shit hole isn’t my home.” Jack said as he started to smoke a cigarette.
“Well until you are 18 or find a family I’m afraid that shit hole is your home.” The officer said and he looked at me.
“You should also be at home Alex.” The officer said to me and went to reach out for my arm and I flinched away from him and I hope Jack didn’t notice but I have a feeling he did.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Jack.” I said quietly as I walked off and headed home.

———————————————————————————————————————

I was walking through school minding my own business and hoping Jack wasn’t going to be in but I was completely wrong on it when I heard my name being called down the corridor.
I stopped walking and waited for Jack to catch up with me before I started walking again.
“So last night.” Jack said and I looked at him.
“Nothing happened last night.” I said as I stopped by the class we was both in.
“Not between us it didn’t but you flinched away from the officer. What’s that all about?” Jack said and I looked down and shook my head.
“I can’t talk about it okay. Just don’t bring it up again alright.” I said which made Jack frown at me.
“Didn’t know the bad boy wanted anything to do with the broken freak.” A boy said who also happened to be one of the kids who bullied me.
Jack just looked at the kid and then back to me.
“Just don’t worry about it.” I said quietly as I walked off not really feeling this lesson anymore.

I was sat on the school field under the tree smoking and looking at the scars I had on my arm which was nothing to do with me.
“Self harm?” A voice asked and I looked up and saw Jack and he sat down in front of me and rolled himself a cigarette.
“Nope, these are from a relationship I wished I never got into.” I said quietly as I pulled my sleeve down and smoke my cigarette.
“So your ex cut you up?” Jack asked and I looked at him.
“Yes my ex cut me up, but that’s what you get when your 16 year old brain tells you that going out with a prick who is 7 years older than you is such a amazing idea.” I said sarcastically as I picked at the grass.
“The others bully you for it?” Jack asked and I rolled my eyes.
“No, they say things about my family because they know they will get a reaction from me.” I said and Jack nodded.
“If you want I can always deck them if you want.” Jack said and I chuckled as I looked at him.
“You don’t have to, I have myself covered for them.” I said and Jack smiled at me.
“Well I have a reputation to up hold.” Jack said and I chuckled.
“I know, but save it for a bigger fight.” I said and Jack lead down and looked at me.
I looked down and picked at the grass.
“How’s your face?” Jack asked and I looked at him.
“It still fucking hurts and my looks are now damage.” I said and I lead on my front.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what was wrong with me that day.” Jack said as I looked down.
“Please don’t ever hit or punch me again.” I said quietly and Jack rolled onto his front and he put his hand on top of mine.
“I’m really really sorry.” Jack said quietly.
I rolled onto my back and looked up through the trees leaves to the sky.
“What happened?” Jack asked and I looked at him.
“I don’t know you well enough to talk about it.” I said as I sat up and looked at Jack.
The bell went saying it was the end of school and I sighed as I stood up and Jack followed my actions.
“My brother and my sister are both at a after school club until like 5 so I have the house to myself if you want to come round and keep me company or if you don’t want to go home.” I said and Jack smiled.

“I’d like that.” Jack said and we picked our bags up and we headed towards home.
