Love Is Just a Chemical Creation

Small Things Make Great Pictures

It had been an hour and a half since I had left the college parking lot. I was pulling into my parking space at the office when I started to get into the zone for photography. I had always loved taking pictures. It had mostly started at local shows in my old town. When bands started to ask me to do promotional shoots for them I started to get more serious about it. When I got my first pictures published in a small Indie Magazine I was stoked.

The photos that got selected was of a smaller bands that I am friends with called Karate High School. They were on the uprise and had a good following. They were standing against a wall with words said stuff like OMG! STFU! And LOL! graffiti-ed. It was some of their signature lingo. It was also one of the favorites that I have ever taken.

When I got a call from Rolling Stone asking if a would be interested in doing an internship over the summer in my freshman year at college, I jumped at the opportunity. By the end of the internship they were so happy with my work that they signed me on as one of their photographers.

So for the last year I had taken pictures of everyone from Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz to the Jonas Brothers. I even had some jobs on the side that were very popular in the press. As I got my camera out of my back seat I started wondering what the band was going to be like. I shook the thought out of my head as I opened the door to the office.

"Good morning Jayde!" The receptionist said as I walked past her.

"Wish I could say it was." I stated sourly under my breath and half smile her way.

When I finally reach the studio I was working in, I noticed there were three guys sitting on the couch. Assuming they were the band I walked over and introduced myself.

"Hey guys I'm Jayde. I'll be you photographer today." I said sticking my hand out for one of them to shake.

"Well I didn't think that our photographer would be so pretty." One said, he had shaggy light brown hair that came to his chin, grabbing my hand and kissing it.

"Alex keep it in your pants. You will have to excuse him, he just can't help it sometimes." the one with the small mohawk said shaking his head and my hand. "I'm Rian. This loser to busy texting to introduce himself is Jack."

"Huh? What? What did I miss?" The guy texting, that I now knew as Jack, said as his head popped up and he clued into our conversation.

"This is our photographer. Her name is Jayde." Rian said.

"Well its nice to meet you all." I noted that they all looked a little sheepish.

"We have one more member. He got caught up but he said he would be here soon." Alex exclaimed looking annoyed. "Do you mind if Rian's girlfriend comes to watch? He would ask you himself but he's scared you'll get mad"

"As long as she is quiet and cool I don't mind" I told him. my mood had already started to change knowing that I was about to do something I was super passionate about.

"Sweet I'll go call" Rian stated to say but was cut off when the door was pushed open and in walked the last person I wanted to see.

"Hey guys sorry I'm late. Is the photographer here yet?" Zack asked looking around until his eyes landed on me. "Wait, what are you doing here?"

"Zack meet Jayde. She's our photographer." Alex said as he slipped his arm around my shoulders.

"Yeah we've met." I said. My sour mood returning as Zack walked toward us.

"Wait how do you know each other?" Jack said putting his phone away and standing up.

"Well he is the reason I was late. He smashed into the back of my Mustang." I explained crossing my arms in front of my chest.

"I said I was sorry and I'm paying to get it fixed." Zack said exasperatedly.

"I know but that's not going to make me any happier at the moment." I said. I could tell this was going to be a long day.

There was a soft knock on the door and it opened. A Petite girl about 20 came through the door. As soon as she was all the way through Rian walked over and engulfed her in a hug kissing her sweetly. I guess his girlfriend didn't mind the sweet gesture in front of people, it brought a pang to my heart and my stomach. My heart because I wish I had that and my stomach because it made me sick to think that when I thought I had that the guy broke my heart and stole my best friend.

I broke out of my thoughts when I heard my assistant calling my name.

"Jayde!" Sarah called.

"Huh? Oh sorry I just got lost in thought there for a minute. What did you need?" I asked her trying to get rid of my thoughts of Josh.

"Everything's set. So you can start when you are ready."

I thanked her and got my cameras ready as the boys stood in front of a plain yellow background. We had some random props set up on a table for them to use in the pictures. Jack ran over to the table to grab something. He ran back and told me to turn around. I did as I was told and when I turned back around I started laughing. They were all wearing bee antenna. I snapped a few pictures as they switched positions. I clicked the button on the camera on one shot and I knew that was the one I was going to choose.

Jack was standing to the far right with his head on Zack's shoulder, he was also scratching his head. Zack had his arm around Jack and was standing next to Alex with a smirk on his face. Alex was standing to the side but was still facing the camera and had his arm stretched out and was doing a thumbs up sign. Rian was kind of off to the side but it still looked like he should be right where he was. As a whole it was a good picture but it was the little things that made it a great picture.
