Breaking the Silence.

When we got to the diner the boys piled into the front doors and I hung back and finished my cigarette, Alex walked over to me and smiled. I stuck my tongue out at him and he reached up and tried to grab it.
“You’re gross.” I signed.
He laughed. “Do you want me to save you an inside seat?”
“Yeah.” I signed.
“Next to me?” He asked
I nodded and he smiled, he walked in the front door and I took a long drag and dropped the butt onto the ground and stubbed it out. I pulled the big doors open and sauntered in.
“There’s our little cancer stick.” Chloe said
I flicked her off and Alex got up so I could get into the corner of the booth. I plopped down and Jack kicked me from under the table, I glared at him and he just smiled and kissed the side of Chloe’s head. I smiled at the two of them, I was really happy Jack found someone spunky like Chloe Zanetti.
I looked around at the table of people, my friends excluding Annalise. They all looked so happy, laughing and joking with one another. Alex grabbed my arm and I looked at him.
“What do you want to eat so I can order when the waitress gets here?” He said
I looked down at the menu and scanned it over.
“BLT?” I singed
“Mayo?” He asked
I nodded and he smiled and nosed my shoulder, I smiled at him and the waitress came over. She immediately had Rian’s full attention, I chucked a bit and Alex smiled at him. Maybe he could muster up the courage to get her number, she went around the table taking everyone’s order with Alex ordering for me Annalise gave me a face.
“And what about for you handsome?” She asked touching Rian’s shoulder.
“Just uhh, uh cheeseburger with fries.” He stammered
God that was so cute.
“I’ll go put your order in.” She smiled
We all nodded and she walked away, Rian craning his neck to watch her walk. I knocked on the table to get his attention, he snapped over to me with a smile.
“Hang back and get her number.” I signed.
“Can you please speak!” Annalise finally cracked.
“Lise.” Zack snapped.
“What? What? We are all thinking it.” She said
“No we’re not.” Zack said
“Well I am and I’m saying it.” She said
“Well don’t.” Jack said
“Don’t tell me what to say.” She said
I looked at Jack, he was mad. He was so mad but Alex was more mad.
“You know what Annalise…” Alex started saying getting cut off by Chloe.
“You know what Annalise, you are the worst person I have ever met. Quite literally the worst, you’ve been around longer than me and I know she doesn’t talk. I respect that she doesn’t talk, she’s protecting herself. What is wrong with you?” Chloe asked
“Zack are you going to let her talk to me like that?” She asked
Zack just silently sucked on his straw and looked at me.
“Alright let me out.” She said
The boys got up so she could get out of the middle of them.
“I’m going to the bathroom and you better have something nice to say when I get back.” She said
“Actually Lise. Don’t come back.” Zack said
“Excuse me?” She asked
“Sam is family, and you are not going to speak to my family like that.” Zack said handing her purse to her.
“As if, you’re going to call me in like three days.” She said
“I wouldn’t wait around you halfwit.” Alex said
She turned on her heel and walked out of the diner.
“I’m sorry.” I signed.
“Don’t be.” Zack said
The pretty waitress came back with our food and set it down in front of their perspective person.
“Enjoy.” She signed at me.
She walked away and I sat there shocked.
“Rian she’s the one.” Jack said
I chuckled and we dug into our food, when we were done we all paid and looked at each other.
“Sam I’m going to take Jack back to my place if you don’t mind.” Chloe said
“She doesn’t mind. Let’s go.” Jack said
He kissed my hand and ran out of the door with his girlfriend. I looked at Alex and he smiled.
“So we need to talk.” I signed.
“Let’s go to your house and talk.” He said
I nodded and we walked out to the car and I slid into the driver seat.
“Okay.” He said as we got onto the road.
“You were the one who came into the bar?” I asked
“I was coming to ask you something and I got caught in traffic and I knew you’d be closing which was fine so there was no one in there when you shot me down; so I thought everything was golden. But when I walked into the bar and you were laying on the floor bleeding out, it rocked me to my core. I called the police and when they finally got there god Sam I was so scared.” He said
“It was pretty scary.” I signed.
“I was so scared because I didn’t want you to leave me. I didn’t want to be alone. If you had died Sam I don’t know what I would have done.” He said
“You would have moved on with your life.” I said
“No I don’t think you understand.” He said
“I do. I was the one who almost died that night.” I said
“You don’t understand that I could not have moved on. Because how do you move on when your soul mate is dead…” He trailed off.
WHAT.
“Come again?” I asked
“You heard me god damn it.” He said
I looked over at him as I pulled into the driveway, tears in the corners of his eyes.
“What?” I signed.
“God damn it Sam!” He yelled
He unbuckled his seat belt and leaned over the center console smashing his lips to mine. I wasn’t pulling away this time, I reached up and grabbed the collar of his shirt with one hand and knotted my other one up in his hair. When we pulled away he just leaned his forehead on mine.
“My god.” He said
I just smiled and sat there speechless. Haha.
“That was.” He said
“Yeah.” I said
He chuckled and I got out of the car and wobbled into the house, my knees were so weak. My mom was immediately pulling herself out of the curtains.
“I told you!” She yelled pointing at me.
“Stop.”
“No. Wait where’s your brother?” She asked
“Chloe took him.”
“I like that girl.” She said
“Me too. Zack broke up with Annalise today.”
“It’s about time. That girl is a nightmare.” She chuckled.
“Sam!” Alex yelled
I looked over at him.
“Rian texted me… he got that waitresses number. They’re going on a date but she asked him to bring Zack for her sister.” He said
“Rian and a girl? It’s about time.” My mom said
“She was really pretty.” I signed.
“And she already knows some sign language.” Alex added.
“That’s a bonus, I hope it goes well for them. We’ll I’m going to go to bed.” She said
“Goodnight mom.” I signed.
“Goodnight mom.” Alex said laughing
“Goodnight kids, behave.” She said
I nodded and she walked upstairs to her room.
“Okay, she totally saw us.” Alex said
“Yeah she was hiding in the curtain.” I signed
“Just looking out for her girl.” He said
He wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed me again, I just melted into it.
“I have been waiting so long to do that.” He said
“How long?”
“My crush on you developed when you were a senior.” He said
“Seven years?”
“Uhh yeah.” He said
“You’re too cute.”
He rolled his eyes.
“Stupid twenty nine year old boys.”
“I’m not twenty nine yet. And can it you’re only two years behind.” He said
“Two years and four months.”
“Whatever. Do you want to watch a movie?” He asked
I nodded.
“Okay.” He said
We made our way up to my room flipping the light on as we closed the door. Elvis popped his head up at the sudden bright light.
“Sorry man.” Alex said walking over to the tank.
He reached in and grabbed my snake like it was his, Jack won’t even go near him and Rian screamed like a little girl the first time he saw him.
“Lex pick a movie.” I said kicking my shoes off and climbing into my bed.
He set Elvis down and rifled through my movies, he put one in and joined me,
“Can I snuggle?” He asked
“Obviously.” I signed.
He chuckled and climbed under the covers with me, when the intro to the movie started I smiled like a fucking weirdo.
“Can’t go wrong with The Lost Boys right?” He asked
I kissed him on the temple and cuddled in to watch the movie.
“You’re my girlfriend now I hope you know that. That’s what I’m calling you.” He whispered into my ear causing me to smile.
When I woke up the next morning Alex wasn’t in bed with me anymore, the TV had been turned off and Elvis was eating breakfast. I stretched a huge stretch and got out of bed, I walked downstairs to find Alex and Jack cooking in the kitchen; Chloe sitting at the dining room table.
“Good morning.” She chirped
I gave her a smile and Alex turned around and smiled at me, I waved him over and wrapped my arms around his neck. I pressed my mouth to his and Chloe cheered.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. When the fuck did this happen?” Jack asked
“Yesterday.” I signed.
“God damn it’s about fucking time Lex grew some balls.” He laughed
He walked over and hugged Alex.
“You defile my little sister and I’ll cut your balls off.” He said
Alex laughed and I walked out onto the back deck and lit a cigarette, the door opened and Chloe came outside.
“Hey.” She said
I smiled at her.
“Bro what happened?” She asked
I just chuckled.
“We got caught up in a moment and I didn’t back down.” I said
“Oh verbal today?” She asked
“For a little bit.” I said
“It’s nice to finally hear it.” She said
I just cocked my head.
“The mystery voice.” She said
“Haha. This stays between the four of us.” I said
“Solid.” She smiled.
When I finished smoking we both walked back inside to French toast, bacon and, eggs being plated for us.
“You guys are the best.” Chloe said
I nodded and Alex came and sat next to me as I shoved a piece of bacon into my mouth.
“So.” He said
“We should wait on the other two.” Jack said
“Other four.” Chloe said
I held up four fingers.
“Zack, Rian and the waitress and her sister. Their date went fantastic last night apparently and they wanted to meet the rest of us.” She said with her mouth full.
“You’re gross.” Jack said
“But you like me this way right?” She asked
“I do but I like you a little less after you Dutch ovened me last night.” He said
I started laughing, oh she’s the best. When the front door opened Rian and Zack piled in with a girl each.
“Guys these are the twins.” Rian said beaming.
“I’m Raelyne.” One said
“And I’m Teagan.” The other smiled.
How the fuck am I supposed to tell them apart.
“Raelyne was our waitress.” Rian said
Rian and Raelyne, okay R and R and T and Z…. or something like that I’ll figure it out.
“Girls this is Alex, Jack, Chloe; Jack’s girl and Sam.” Zack said
“Alex’s girlfriend.” I signed.
“What!” Rian yelled causing the girls to laugh.
“Nice to meet you Sam, Alex’s girlfriend.” Raelyne signed.
“She can hear you, she’s just a mute. She’s also my sister.” Jack said
They both nodded.
“So Alex and I have some news.” Jack said
I looked over at my new boyfriend and smiled.
“We have a tour coming up.” Alex said
“How soon?” I signed.
“About two weeks. Brian says the girls are welcome to join if they want but Sam you have no choice.” Jack said
“Excuse me.” I signed
“Listen. Brian wants you to be our translator for the tour. The label is going to pay you to translate.” Alex said
“What?”
“Is that something you want to do?” Jack asked
“Yes!”
Alex smiled and I pushed my face to his.
“Okay gross.” Jack said
“Get used to it okay?” Alex said
“Maybe.” He said
“No maybe, we dealt with you sucking Chloe’s face off for the first two weeks.” Alex snapped
“Well I think it’s cute.” Teagan said
I smiled at one of the twins and she flashed me a dimpled smile.
“So are you guys coming as well?” Chloe asked
“If they want.” Rian said looking at Raelyne.
She looked at her sister and smiled.
“We would love too, if you’ll have us.” Teagan said
All right! It won’t be a complete sausage fest, us four girls can get into some trouble and have some fun.
“We’re going to get into some trouble.” I signed.
“That’s the spirit!” Jack yelled.
We all smiled and looked at each other. Alex wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
“Not too much trouble I hope.” He said
I just rolled my eyes.
“Shut up turd.”
He shook his head and nosed my cheek, butterflies erupted in my belly…
“Okay Sam you get to do the dishes.” Jack said
I nodded.
“I’ll help.” Chloe said
I smiled and we got up and gathered the dishes as the other six went down to the studio in the basement.
“So translating?” Chloe asked
I nodded.
“I did it for a high school kid while Alex was in the hospital.” I said
“But now you’re going to do it in front of like a gazillion people.” She said
I just looked at her.
“Don’t scare me out of it.” I snapped.
“Oh trust me, you’re going on the stage whether you like it or not. Let’s not forget that I shoved you on stage.” She said
I let out a chuckle and heard Rian going at it on the drum kit downstairs.
“Someone is showing off.” Chloe said
“You’re telling me Jack didn’t?” I asked
“Oh he did. He also showed me your bedroom.” She said
“Mine?” I asked
“Uh yeah, he wanted to show me the insane thing that his sister kept as a pet.” She said
I laughed.
“Elvis? He wanted to show you Elvis?” I asked
She nodded.
“I think he’s scared of him.” She said
“He is.” I laughed.
“I’m not. I want to hold him.” She said
I nodded and we finished the dishes.
I took her hand and dragged her upstairs pushing my bedroom door open.
“So this is where the magic happens.” She laughed.
I just shook my head and just walked over and pulled Elvis out of the tank, I held him out to Chloe and she took him and had a huge smile on her face.
“Are the others scared of him?” She asked
“Rian and Jack are.” I said
“Can I take him down there and fuck with them?” She asked
“Let me go down first to get him to stop drumming. I don’t wanna hurt his ears.” I said
She nodded and I pranced downstairs and down to the basement.
Alex looked up at me and smiled, I signed for them to stop the noise. When Rian put the sticks down he looked up at me.
“Got something to say?” He asked
Zack laughed.
“No I just want you to shut up.” I signed
“Someone is feisty today.” Zack said
I smiled and Chloe came down empty handed, I gave her a questioned look and she winked at me.
“Jacky I got you a present.” She said
“Oh! I love presents.” He smiled.
She walked over to him and climbed on his lap.
“Oh in front of all of our friends?” Jack asked
Chloe reached into the pocket of her hoodie and carefully pulled Elvis out.
“Devil woman!!” Jack squealed pushing his girlfriend off of his lap.
He ran away squealing like a little girl, Chloe started dying and then turned to Rian who was in the room with his drum kit. He started shaking his head so fast I’m sure he got dizzy. Chloe nodded and walked into the room shutting the door behind her.
“Chloe no!” Rian yelled.
“Yes.” She smiled viciously.
This girl is amazing. She walked over to Rian with Elvis secured on her arm and he fell off of his stool and scooched back towards the wall letting out the most girly scream I had ever heard. He fumbled around knocking most of the equipment down trying to get out of the room.
“Just pet him!” Chloe yelled.
“Get that thing away from me!” Rian yelled as he finally busted out of the room.
The twins were on the ground laughing so hard along with Zack. Lex couldn’t breathe and Jack was almost in tears hiding behind me.
“You guys are a bunch of pussies!” Chloe yelled kissing the snake on the nose.
“That’s the only snake you’ll be kissing tonight.” Jack said
“Uh huh sure.” She said handing me Elvis.
“This is Elvis, Sami’s snake.” Alex said
“Sami?” Jack asked
I jutted Elvis at him and he backed off.
“We don’t love snakes but we’re not afraid of them.” Teagan said
It’s getting easier to tell the difference, Teagan’s hair was straight and Raelyne’s was wavy… but that’s just today we’ll see about on tour. Alex took Elvis from me and walked him back upstairs to his tank.
“So you and Alex are together now?” Zack asked
“Yeah.” I signed
“How’d he manage that?” Rian asked
I rolled my eyes.
“Totally dropped a line. Roped me right in.”
Everyone laughed knowing damn well it was a joke.

Notes

Two in one night! I figured I'd give you guys two this time, it's going to be a while until I update again. Work is really stressful and busy right now, my boss is going on vacation so the store is mine right now. I'm going to be working 60 plus hours this week and we're filming a commercial with some players for the Columbus Blue Jackets this week; which is exciting but also very stressful... I hate being a boss sometimes... And I've been having some trouble with my depression recently but I'll snap out of it.
