Contractions

It’s getting to that time again where the boys are about to leave to go on tour. The tour is going to be the longest I will have been away from Alex since I found out that I was pregnant and hell, it’s been the longest time Miranda will be without Jack. Obviously, it’ll be worse and she’s on the verge of being panicked because the baby’ll be here sooner rather than later. The baby’s gonna be here whether it’s before he leaves and when he’s gone or she’ll go into labor while he’s gone. No matter what, her mom will be down her helping her out for a while. I’m not worried about it or about Alex being on tour, but maybe that’s just because the chances of me going in labor are slim to none.

“I can stand this any longer. He needs to come out.” she said frustratedly.

I went over to see her while Jack is out getting groceries because who knows if she’s going to go into labor.

“If he’s anything’s like his mommy, he’ll be there before his daddy leaves.”

AKA two days.

“I hope you’re right.” she said, lying her head back into the recliner.

“Is there anything I can get for ya?”

“My boyfriend.”

“Anything I can actually get?”

She shook her head.

“Well, I’ll be right back. I need to pee.”

I had even more of a struggle getting up as my back pain has gotten worse, but it’s imperative I move at this point to try and avoid leg cramps that have happened even if all I want to do is lie around the house. When I reached the bathroom to pee, my phone rang; it was Alex.

“Hey.”

“Hey. What’s up? How are you?”

“Ok, but I do have back pain. Miranda is getting even more and more irritable by the minute. I just asked her if there was anything I could get her and she said her boyfriend.”

“Am I gonna be expecting this?”

“Probably.”

He sighed and I laughed.

“Abby!!”

I heard her scream.

“What’s going on?” Alex asked.

“Give me a minute.”

I rushed out the bathroom and to the living room where I saw her bent over in pain.

“I think I’m having contractions.”

“Let’s go. I’ll grab your bag.”

“I have seriously never had pain this bad and these are definitely not those Braxton-Hicks ones I’ve had.”

I rushed up those steps.

“What-“

“Call Jack. She’s having contractions. I’ll meet you there.”

“Ok. See ya soon.”

I grabbed it quickly along with my purse and out we were. Six minutes later, I heard her scream out in pain again as I drove toward the hospital. Just four minutes after that, we arrived and I carefully got her out of the car. When we got in the door, I saw tears run down her face.

“I need him.”

“He’ll be here soon.”

I walked up to the receptionist and impatiently waited to speak. She lifted her head when she saw me.

“My best friend’s having contractions. Her name’s Miranda Cullen.” I said, showing her.

She was bent over in pain. It took a minute, but we got her into a wheelchair; she squeezed my hand as she was wheeled down the hall. A couple minutes after she was in a gown and in bed, I caught a glimpse of Jack rushing into the room.

“Miranda.” he asked, going to embrace her.

I smiled at the sight of her in his arms.

“I hate to ruin the moment, but where’s my husband?”

“He should be right behind me.”

Alex was seconds behind him. I would’ve gotten up to see him, but I didn’t feel like it.

“Hey.” he said coming down to my level.

“Hey. Sorry I didn’t-“

“That’s okay.”

He hugged and kissed me and I smiled before he sat down beside me. The doctor came in a few minutes later.

“Ms. Cullen.”

“Hi.”

Our joint obstetrician.

“What’s your pain level today?”

“I’d say about an eight.”

She took a look at her cervix.

“Well, you’re only at three centimeters right now. I’ll check back in an hour.”

Miranda nodded and laid her head back.

“Anything I can get you, baby?” Jack asked.

She shook her head.

“I asked her that earlier and she said you.”

She blushed.

“Is that true?”

“Yeah...”

He smiled and kissed her.

“You’re so fucking cute.”

Twenty minutes later, I got the sudden urge to go for a walk.

“I need to go for a walk, you guys. I’ll be back.”

“I’ll join you.” Alex said.

I wanted that. He helped me up and off we went.

“Thanks for joining me.” I said, intertwining our fingers.

“It’s my pleasure and hey, I’m taking every opportunity I can to spend time with you before I go.”

“You’re too wonderful.”

He smiled and looked at the ground.

“How’d you feel from the time Miranda yelled to getting here?”

“Pretty calm, even when I spoke to the receptionist. She gave me an idea of what I might look like when I go into labor.”

“I hope I react as well as you did today.”

“I’m sure you will. How did Jack react?”

“He had the opposite reaction when I told him, but managed to calm himself enough to drive to the hospital.”

He and I both laughed.

“Yeah. You’ll be fine.”

I sighed and placed a hand on my back.

“Are you okay?” Alex asked.

“Just my back pain.” I said groaning.

“Would you like to sit down?”

I shook my head.

“I need to walk every so often to avoid leg cramps. I’ve had those before. They fucking suck.”

He kissed the top of my head and let go of my hand, then began rubbing my back causing me to moan.

“Thank you. Let’s walk for ten more minutes and head outside while doing so.”

“I love that idea.”

After walking outside for a while, we decided to sit on a bench and I proceeded to lean up against him.

“I love you so much. You know that?” I said, my voice cracking.

“I love you, too. What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know.”

The tears came flooding down. He kneeled in front of me and took my hands in his.

“This is embarrassing. Crying in public.” I said sniffling.

“Are you sure you don’t know?”

“Hormones. You being gone for two months. My uterus kicking my ass.”

He laughed at the latter statement. I gave him a look.

“Sorry.”

“I could smack ya for that.”

Scarlett kicked which made me smirk.

“She has a lot of sass already.” I said.

“Like her mommy.”

I smiled and kissed him, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“Feeling better?”

“Much better. Kiss me.”

He smiled into the kiss.

“You are amazing.” he said.

“Tell me something I don’t know.”

He laughed again.

“I can’t believe I just said that.” I said laughing.

“Let’s go crazy pregnant lady.”

“You know, you’re only one of two people who can call me that?”

“Well, I feel honored. Let’s go see that other person.”

“Whoever said it was Miranda?”

He shook his head.

“Your mama really is crazy.” he said to my belly.

I smacked his arm.

“Come on. I wanna see my best friend.” I said, suddenly exhausted.

I leaned up against him once again as I felt his arm around me. We walked back in and I saw Miranda and Jack deep in conversation, so Alex and I didn’t bother saying anything. I sat down and propped my feet on his lap.

“Fuck yeah.” I whispered, throwing my head back.

“Hey guys.” Miranda said after a minute.

“Hey.”

“Have a good walk?”

“A great walk. We had a nice talk and Scarlett kicked at a very opportune moment. I’ll tell you about it later.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah. I’m a bit tired at the moment.”

“Ugh. So am I and uncomfortable too.”

“This is random, but do you know if I can take my shoes off?”

“You can.”

“Oh, hallelujah.”

And with that, Alex took my socks and shoes off and immediately began rubbing my feet.

“Thank you, kind sir.”

“Wow, Abby. Your ankles look almost as swollen as mine.”

“I love you too, Miranda.”

“You have beautiful cankles.”

“Shut up. You’re so weird.” I said, laughing.

Let it be that the person who is having contractions is making her pregnant best friend laugh.

“You’re both weird.” Jack added.

Everyone in the room busted out laughing. Just a few minutes later, her doctor walked in.

“Seems like everyone’s in high spirits here.”

“Very much so.” Miranda said.

“Let me see where you are right now.”

She checked really quick and came back up.

“No change?”

“None, but this is only hour one. It’s normal.”

Miranda nodded and leaned her head back. After the doctor left and said she’d back in a couple hours, Miranda leaned her head back and sighed.

“It’s gonna be a long fucking day. Isn’t it?”

“It’ll be worth it, though.” Jack said running his fingers through her hair.

“I know.” she said making a face.

You could just feel the love in the room.

“If he doesn’t arrive by, let’s say ten? I’d like you two to go home and get some rest, especially you, Abby. I remember how exhausted I was at this point and it only got worse.”

It was one’clock at the moment.

“You sure?” I asked.

“100%.”

“Ok.”

When five came, she was only four-and-a-half centimeters and when ten o’clock rolled around, it was just at six.

“We’ll call you or better yet, text you guys if something happens. Ok?” she said.

“Alright. Goodnight. I’m crossing my fingers that he’ll be here in the morning.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

We said our goodbyes before we headed out the door.

“I’ll meet you at home.” I said.

“Be careful. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

We kissed and then got into our separate vehicles to drive home. I arrived home first and was beyond ready to hop into bed. I heard Alex a couple minutes later as I was letting the boys back into the house.

“Abby?”

“Yeah?”

“Where are you?”

“Walking in from the backyard. I let Baz and Peyton out already.” I said, finally seeing his face.

“Ready for bed, then?” he said walking over to me.

“Yes.”

My face was buried in his chest while his arms wrapped around me.

"Let's go retire to the bedroom." I said in a weird voice, pointing towards the stairs.

Alex laughed and followed me and the dogs up the steps. I slowly changed and brushed my teeth before sliding under the covers with my body pillow in place. He was already in bed when I got there, waiting for me.

"Hey." I yawned.

"Hey sleepyhead."

I smiled and kissed him, hoping he'd deepen the kiss; he did.

“Can you believe that Jack and Miranda are gonna be parents tomorrow? It’s crazy.”

“It is, but those two love each other and both of us know this is the happiest they’ve ever been.”

“They’re gonna be great parents. I just know it.”

“Me too.”

“I just hope I can sleep.”

“I’m sure you will.”

“Goodnight. I love you.”

“‘Night. Love you, too.”

Catching up!
Aw, that was sweet how Abby's mom found her perfect dress. :) And aw, yay, Alex is back! :D And they're allowed to get... reacquainted now, haha. XD Abby must have curves now too from the baby, with all the attention; glad that Alex is protective of her, though. <3
This is really random, but I love when she calls Scarlett a ham like that little moment in chapter 35. XD So cute.
Great job with the updates! Can't wait for more! :)

Yay, another update! And OMG, I'm commenting within like, a day instead of a few weeks. XD A record for my commenting lately.
Great job with the chapter! Aw, Abby's mom is sick. :/ Hope she gets better for them to be able to go dress shopping. And haha, Abby and Alex making plans. ;) That's all I'm gonna say on that. XD
Short but sweet update. :) Note at the beginning that Scarlett's name is cut off for some reason, and it starts "carlett" lol.
Can't wait for more! :D

OMG, a dramatic update. :O Loved it, though!
I'm glad Abby and Scarlett are okay. Her dad is literally insane. Man... I'm glad you finally put that a bit to rest, though. I mean, she still has to deal with the legal stuff, but I feel like this is a step to resolving it. I was just wondering when he would turn up again.
And her conversation afterwards with Alex was very sweet. <3
One thing I want to note:
What seemed a lifetime later but was actually less than ten, I heard the police outside.
... this line was a bit off, because you just said "less than ten." Less than ten, minutes? I'm assuming that's what it was. XD But as is, it's sounding like you're saying less than ten lifetimes, lol. But that's just a small thing; the minutes thing is probably easily assumed.
Excited to see more! :)

Aw, Abby's on her own now with the baby; I hope this doesn't take too much of a toll on her mentally. :(
I'm loving these flashback scenes, especially the one in this latest update, that gives us insight to their relationship as it was starting, that we haven't seen before. It would be interesting to see more of those moments. You've done them before, but something just struck me about this one. Perhaps because it was about their first date. :')
It's funny, I got on here to read chapter 31, when I got sent the update for 32. :P So, two updates! Woot! :D
Great job with both updates; excited to read more! :)
