Announce
The following day is when Alex and I decided to announce my pregnancy. Prior to me leaving for work, we discussed telling his parents during my lunch break and we agreed that would be a great time to tell them. I was so excited to tell them that I didn’t know how I could wait to tell them at two.
“You and Alex telling your in-laws today?” Jayla asked.
“Yeah and I’m so antsy about it. You know?”
She nodded.
“Once again, congratulations! This is amazing news!”
I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as I hugged her. The time seemed to pass fastly and finally I saw Alex in the parking lot. I walked toward him as he got out of his car.
“Hi beautiful.”
“Hi.”
I stood on my toes and kissed him.
“How are you? Our little one?”
“We’re both good. I don’t have any nausea or much fatigue, but I’m still a bit sore. The sports bra is helping though even if it feels weird.”
“That’s good to know.”
He said going in for a kiss which is one I melted into.
“I made you a lunch.”
“Thank you. You’re so sweet.”
“You do need to eat healthy after all, or at least healthy as possible, so I made you a lunch.”
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
We walked toward his car and got in.
“Did you make yourself something?”
“Of course. It’s waiting for me in the car.”
As we sat in his car eating, I kept thinking about what his parents’ were gonna say.
“What’s up?” he asked, noticing the look on my face.
“Nothin’.” I replied, drawing out the word.
He laughed.
“You sure?” he said doing the same thing.
“Yes.”
“Ok...”
“Shut up, you goof.”
He smiled and took another bite of his sandwich. Roughly fifteen minutes later, we were ready to FaceTime his parents.
“Hi Alexander.”
“Hi Mum.”
I waved and said hi.
“Hi Abby.”
“I get to talk to the both of you. That’s rare.”
“Is it possible to have dad in on this phone call?”
“Absolutely. This sounds like big news.”
“Very.” I said.
I clung onto his arm as we waited for his dad.
“Hey Dad.”
“Hey. Hey Abby.”
I waved and greeted him.
“So, what’s this news you have?”
Alex and I smiled at each other before I grabbed the sonogram photo from the glove compartment.
“I’m pregnant!” I exclaimed.
“Oh my God!” I heard his mom squeal.
Her reaction was so reminiscent of Miranda’s. He kissed my cheek.
“When did you find out?”
“About five weeks ago.”
“How far along?”
“Ten weeks. I have my sonogram with me. Would you like to see it? It’d probably be better if I sent it.”
“How about you send it?”
I nodded and took a picture with my phone then sent it to her. Seconds later, I saw her melt when she looked at the pic.
“Our future grandchild...”
I placed my head on his shoulder and didn’t want to move. I wondered what my mom’s reaction would be.
“Did you tell your mom and her fiancée yet?”
“We’re gonna do that tonight after I get home from work.”
I didn’t move my head because I was way too comfortable and happy to do so.
“Are we talking to you during your lunch break?”
“Yeah.”
“You coulda waited to tell us. We’re cutting in on your break.”
“I don’t think I could’ve waited another day and the next day I have off is Sunday.”
“I understand. Still, I’m gonna let you go. Let me know your mother’s reaction. Ok?”
“Ok.”
We hung up seconds later and I sighed.
“Is somebody comfortable?”
“How’d you guess?” I asked laughing.
“Just had a hunch.”
“As much as I love my job, I don’t wanna go back.”
“How much time you have left?”
“Seven minutes. I’m gonna have trouble concentrating because I’ll be thinking of telling my mom.”
“That’s a good motivator though. You gotta admit that.”
“It is.”
I felt an arm wind around me with a hand landing on my stomach and his head on top of mine. After four minutes, I decided that I needed to get back to work.
“Gotta go. I love you.”
“I love you, too. See you tonight.”
I kissed him and then reluctantly got out of the car. I walked into the restaurant not being able to wipe the smile off my face.
“How’d it go?” Jayla asked, walking into the kitchen.
“Amazingly. They even saw the ultrasound. His mom reacted the similarly to the way Miranda did.”
“I love that. Two people down, two to go.”
And boy, I couldn’t fucking wait.
“Yep.”
The day went faster than I thought it would and soon I was home and ready to tell my mom the fantastic news. I walked in to see Alex watching television with the dogs on the couch. They jumped off as soon as they saw me.
“Hi boys.” I said getting greeted.
“Hey.” he said getting up to greet me.
“Hey. How was your day?”
I went in for a kiss.
“Boring. How was yours?”
He kissed me back.
“Quick.”
“And painless?”
I shook my head and laughed.
“You’re so weird.”
“You love it.”
“I do.”
“Hey. I’m gonna change. I’ll be back.”
“I hope so.”
I shook my head again. I came back in pajamas and sat next to him on the couch.
“Ready to talk to her?” he asked.
“You have no idea.”
I called up my mom on FaceTime; she answered after a couple rings.
“Hi honey.”
“Hi Mom.”
“Hi Alex.”
“Hi Carol.”
“Where’s Tyler? I’d like to talk to him too.”
“Nearby. I’ll go grab him.”
I had trouble keeping myself in my seat. She came back less than a minute later with him in tow.
“Got him. So, what’s up? Something must be going on if both of you are here.”
“Something is definitely going on.” Alex said.
“In my uterus. I’m pregnant!”
I held up my ultrasound photo. My mom covered her mouth with her hands.
“I’m gonna be a grandmother?”
“Yes. That’s typically how it works, Mom.” I said laughing.
I sent her the picture just like I sent his mom’s. She smiled even more.
“How many weeks?”
“Ten. Found out four weeks ago.”
“This is so exciting!”
I set it aside and sighed.
“You okay, babe?”
“Yeah. Just tired.”
“I can let you guys go.”
“No.”
“Abigail.”
“Ok. Mother knows best.”
“And I’m sure you will too in a matter of months.”
He kissed me too.
“Goodnight Mom.”
“Goodnight.”
I hung up and handed my phone to Alex who unlike me was wide awake.
“Ready for bed?” he asked.
“Nope.” I said shaking my head.
“You’re lying.”
“No. I’m not.”
I got off the couch and took the ultrasound photo with me. I didn’t even get into the hallway when I felt hands around my waist.
“Where do you think you’re going?” he whispered into my ear.
I giggled.
“I was gonna go to our bedroom.”
“Thought you said you weren’t ready for bed?”
“Well, I love our bedroom.” I sleepily said turning around to face him and placing my hands on his chest.
Then, I giggled again.
“You know, if you weren’t pregnant, I’d think you were drunk.”
I giggled even more and into his chest, this time. He picked me up and laid me down on the bed where I turned on my side and started to shut my eyes.
“Goodnight, Sleeping Beauty.” he said.
“Goodnight, Alex.”
Aw, cute update. <3 Sorry it took me a minute to comment.
Excited to see more. :)
