I Guess I'll Go Home Now

Seven

Once I got on stage I started doing sound check, making sure everything was ready. I pulled out my chocolate touch and looked at the time. It was 8 o'clock. Steve, the manager of the Coffee Corner walked up on stage and took the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen. On stage we have Blake and she will be singing yet another All Time Low song.” He turned and looked at me and chuckled. “What song are you singing tonight Blake?”

“Remembering Sunday.” I blushed and looked at the table where Larisa and Zack were sitting. Larisa already knew I was doing an All Time Low song, but Zack didn’t and the look on his face proved that.

“All right people you heard her. She will be singing ‘Remembering Sunday’ by All Time Low to kick off the start of Open Mic Night here at the Coffee Corner.” Steve placed the mic back in the stand and moved it in front of me and then walked off stage and went to stand in the corner.

I adjusted the stand a little and the strap of the guitar before looking out to the audience. “Hey guys, thanks for coming out tonight. I’m just going to go ahead and get started. Like Steve said, this is ‘Remembering Sunday’ by All Time Low.”

I began to play the opening notes and all the nerves I had washed away. I know I knew this song so I wasn’t worried about messing it up, but at the same time I was because Zack was sitting out there. I began singing and watched as those who knew the song sang along.

He woke up from dreaming and put on his shoes
Starting making his way past 2 in the morning
He hasn't been sober for days.

As I continued to sing, I looked over to the table again an saw Zack singing along with me and he had a smile on his face.

Leaning now into the breeze
Remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees
They had breakfast together
But two eggs don't last
Like the feeling of what he needs.

Now this place is familiar to him
She pulled on his hand with a devilish grin
She led him upstairs, she led him upstairs
Left him dying to get in.

Forgive me, I'm trying to find
My calling, I'm calling at night
I don't mean to be a bother,
But have you seen this girl?
She's been running through my dreams
And it's driving me crazy, it seems
I'm gonna ask her to marry me.

I continued to watch Zack’s reaction and to my surprise he pulled out his phone and was directing it at me. He was recording me. Great, I looked away suddenly embarrassed. I didn’t want him to record me.

Even though she doesn't believe in love,
He's determined to call her bluff
Who could deny these butterflies?
They're filling his gut.

Waking the neighbors, unfamiliar faces
He pleads though he tries
But he's only denied
Now he's dying to get inside.

Forgive me, I'm trying to find
My calling, I'm calling at night
I don't mean to be a bother,
But have you seen this girl?
She's been running through my dreams
And it's driving me crazy, it seems
I'm gonna ask her to marry me.

The neighbors said she moved away
Funny how it rained all day
I didn't think much of it then
But it's starting to all make sense
Oh, I can see now that all of these clouds
Are following me in my desperate endeavor
To find my whoever, whoever she may be.

My favorite part was coming up, so to make it more dramatic I stood up from the stool that I was sitting at and moved the microphone with me to the end of the stage. I closed my eyes and just let it all come out.

I'm not coming back, I've done something so terrible
I'm terrified to speak, but you'd expect that from me
I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt; now the rain is just
Washing you out of my hair
and out of my mind
Keeping an eye on the world,
So many thousands of feet off the ground, I'm over you now
I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head.

I took a deep breath and opened my eyes, looking out into the crowd before I finished the song. I took another deep breath and lowered my voice and stopped playing the guitar.

I guess I'll go home now
I guess I'll go home now
I guess I'll go home now
I guess I'll go home.

I held out the last note and then bowed slightly. “Thank you.” The crowd erupted into cheers and claps. Zack whistled and Larisa was yelling. I blushed slightly and made my way to the side of the stage where I had stored the case. I placed Zack’s guitar back into the velvet and the snapped the locks shut. I thanks Steve for letting me open again tonight and then went to sit with Larisa and Zack.

When I got to the table Larisa jumped up and gave me a huge hug. “Ohmygosh you were amazing!” She giggled.

“Thanks, Larisa.” I took the seat next to her and looked at Zack. “What did you think Zack? Did I completely ruin that song?”

Zack began shaking his head before he spoke. “Not at all. That was amazing. Probably the best cover of our song that I’ve heard. You are an amazing singer Blake.”

I blushed and looked towards the stage where a girl names Racheal, was setting up for her performance. “Thanks Zack, that means a lot coming from one of the actual performers.”

Zack chuckled and then turned his attention to Larisa. I paid attention to the other acts going on on the stage. At one point Zack got up to go use the bathroom and Larisa took this time to gossip.

“I knew he was cute, but in person he is much hotter and he’s so sweet.” Larisa gushed.

“You guys would be a cute couple if things worked out.” I teased.

“You think so?”

“Totally.”

When Zack got back we decided that we were done here and were going to head back to Alex and Rian’s place. We said goodbye to Larisa, but before we left I noticed that Zack had giver her his number. I couldn’t help but smile to myself because I knew she was dying on the inside because she has always thought he was hot and now she was getting his number.

Once we were in the car, I asked him what he thought of Larisa. He thought she was gorgeous and really fun to hang out with. I'm pretty sure he even mumbled something about a date.

Before I knew it we were in the driveway. I hugged him and thanked him for everything today. He told me he had fun and enjoyed it.

I got out of the car and pulled my key out of my pocket. After fumbling with it for a while, I finally got inside. I heard the TV blaring in the living room, and walked in to find Alex sleeping on the couch with Baz and Peyton. Figuring I'd let him be, I walked upstairs to my room. I quickly changed out of my clothes and climbed in bed. I was exhausted, and within a matter of minutes I had drifted off to sleep.
