Take A Breath And Let The Rest Come Easy

New Beginning

*Alex Pov*

"Alexander! Get up! You don't want to be late!", I hear my mom yell from downstairs. My clock says it's only 7 am. Why is she waking me up so early? Oh well. I'm too excited to go back to sleep. I'm not too excited to be the new kid again, but at least i'll be in band. I really hope my section is nice. There weren't a lot of trombone's in my old school's marching band, but then again, my old school was also half the size. Anyway, I need to get ready. I slid on my favorite pair of black shorts, my favorite Blink-182 shirt, and my beat up pair of converse. Considering i'm gonna be sweating all day, there is absolutely no point in doing my hair. I guess I'm wearing a beanie today. I grabbed my sunglasses and went downstairs. My mom already had breakfast waiting for me. I opened my mouth to protest, but i was quickly silenced. "Alex, I don't want to hear one of your excuses. You're going to be marching in the heat all day. You need to eat, end of story". I knew better than to argue with my mother. That woman had something for everything. I quickly ate my breakfast and then grabbed my stuff by the door. I said goodbye to my mom and started to put my stuff in the car. I didn't even close the car door, and I could feel the thoughts beginning again. Through the past week I've done nothing but worry. Sure, I was excited for pre-camp, but who wants to be friends with the new kid? I'm a junior. All of the other kids in my grade already have their group of friends that they stick with. 'They're all going to think you're a freak. They'll know you're gay. You're such a faggot. It'll be just like it was before. They're all going to hate you.' I could feel myself starting to panic. No. I couldn't let this happen. I wasn't going to have a panic attack. Especially not while driving. I turned on the radio to drown out the voice in my head. Thankfully, I still had my Green Day CD in, so i just turned it up and got lost in the music. I pulled up in the parking lot not even 5 minutes later. This was it. A new beginning.
Luckily, the band room door was open, and there were a bunch of kids with instruments walking in. At least I wouldn't have to embarrass myself and ask for directions. I slipped in to the room behind a few kids, and holy crap. This room was beyond huge. There had to have to been at least 200 people in here. My old band was only 100 marchers. The other students were already settling in and heading towards what I assume was the auditorium (one of our camp aids told us to head there). I quickly found a spot on the floor, put my instrument down, and followed the others. Thankfully, the auditorium was really close to the band room, so no one noticed me awkwardly following along. Now where to sit? I guess if I sit in the back, no one will really notice me. Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. I'm not anti-social, I just prefer to observe the people around me. Not to mention I get horribly nervous and panic when i have to talk to people I don't know. Then someone sat down next to me. There are like 10 other empty seats around me. Why did you have to pick the one next to me? So much for being invisible. I looked next to me to see a girl with brown hair not so casually leaning on my arm rest. Oh great. I tried to ignore her, but she kept nudging my arm every couple of minutes. So I finally gave up. I looked over and she was staring at me. Her eyes were opened ridiculously wide, and she had a creepy grin on her face. Ok, she's either trying to flirt with me, or she's insanely high.

"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to elbow you", she said with a mock expression of guilt on her face. Wow, her voice was annoying.

"I-It's ok" I shakily replied.

"I'm Lisa. I'm a junior, and I'm on colorguard".

Before I could make a reply, one of the drum majors blew the whistle and called us to attention. Thank god."Good morning, Everyone! Before we begin, we're going to go through some introductions", a voice called from the stage. I looked up to find that the voice belonged to a man with bright red hair. "I'm Mr. Way, the director here, but you can call me Gerard if you prefer. Mr. Way makes me feel old. This woman next to me is my assistant, Lindsey. Next we have our drum majors: Matt, Vic, Cassadee, and Jaime." He gestured to each of them as he called their names. He began announcing section leaders, but I wasn't really paying attention until he called my section. "Leading the trombones, we have Tay and Jack". I didn't get too good of a look at them, considering they left the stage and mixed into a crowd of other section leaders. I couldn't pick Tay out of the crowd, but Jack was hard to miss. Not only is he really tall, but he also has a bright blond patch in his dark hair. Not to mention he was also jumping around like he'd downed two rockstars and 5 pounds of candy. Gerard finished introducing the section leaders, and then instructed us to break into sections to get our lanyards and learn names. This was going to be difficult.
