Long Live Us

Forty-Nine

Aubree pulled a miracle for me and she found the dress I wanted at a local bridal shop and placed an order for me to get it. Jack and I had yet to pick a date, but I wanted to get my dress ready, the flowers picked out, and a venue chosen before I'd pick a date.
"I have an idea for a venue," my mom piped up as she drove me, Aubree, Tom, and Dad to the bridal shop for my first dress fitting.
"What's that, Mom," I asked her.
"Your house. The yard is huge and the way the property is landscaped it would be perfect. Plus you won't have to take Izzy far from her crib if she gets tired out early in the night," Mom replied.
"You are such a genius Mom," I gushed over it. I could picture an arch built in the back of the yard covered in ivy and white roses. Jack waiting at the alter for me in his dashing tux.
"Alright, so what will we need to help you with to get your house ready for a wedding to happen," Dad asked as whipped out his phone, most likely checking to see how much money he had in the bank.
"I'd need catering, flowers, and a DJ," I told him, "Plus my dress, the cake, seating for the guests, invitations, and the attire for the bridal party."
"Well, Jasmin works for a banquet hall and can hook us up with catering. We can pay for your dress and the flowers," Mom listed off.
"Then I can get Danny and Evan to handle being the DJs for us. I think Jack and Jasmin can pay for your cake," Dad added.
"Then I think Nate and Mr. Merrick could do the pictures for you and I can make the invitations " Aubree added in.
"Thank you so much," I told them as we pulled up to the bridal shop.
I was in the dress now, ready to show my parents my choice. I was nervous that Dad would hate it. I bet he'd pictured me in a princess gown. I gathered up my skirt and I walked out to where everyone was waiting to see my dress. I was nervous as I stepped onto the platform in front of the mirrors.
"What do you think," I asked them.
"It's beautiful," Mom sobbed. I watched in the mirror as she took a tissue from the box Dad had offered to her.
"It's perfect for you, Stella," Aubree gushed.
"Daddy," I met his eyes in the mirror.
"Fit for my little Gaskarth Princess," he replied. He stood up and came to stand next to me. Even on the platform, he was taller than.
"Daddy, I love you so much," I looked at him with tears in my eyes.
"I love you too, Stell. You will always be my princess. You'll always be my little girl," he wiped the tears from my eyes before they could fall onto my cheeks.
"I know I did everything out of order," I started, but he pressed his index finger to my lips.
"Stella, if you did it in order, it would not feel like the way for everything to happen. Sure I'm a young grandfather and I'm about to be a young father-in-law to my best friend's son, but I wouldn't change it for the world," he kissed my forehead and pushed a piece of my hair that I got from him out of my face.
"I love you, Daddy," I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I love you too, Stella. Always and forever," he cooed in my ear as he rubbed my back.
