Long Live Us

Fourty-One

Isabelle is absolutely perfect. Jack and I were in my recovery room. He was sleeping on the couch while I held Isabelle in my arms. She was asleep and sucking on my pinky finger. I was in complete bliss at my little girl finally being here.
Isabelle looked just like me with plenty of Jack in the balance. She had my Gaskarth nose, my eye shape, eye brows, and forehead I got from my mom. From Jack, Isabelle got her lips and smile and she was also longer than I was when I was born. She was perfect in every way and I was just in love with her.
When Jack finally woke up again, he moved Isabelle from my arms and into her clear plastic crib. After she was secure in her crib, Jack went downstairs to the hospital entrance to go get Tom, Aubree, and Nate. They found out Isabelle was born early in the morning and had decided to wait until our parents had left before coming to see us.
"There's my sister," Tom greeted me with a huge smile. I sat up a little more in my bed as he came over to give me a huge hug.
"How is the little Barakat princess," Aubree asked.
"She's sound asleep. Oh Aubs, she's perfect," I gushed as Aubree hugged me tightly after Tom.
"Well I figured she would be. She was meant to be perfect," Nate commented as he snapped a quick picture of Isabelle sleeping in her crib.
"So when do you get to take Isabelle home," Tom asked as he took a seat in the chair next to my bed and Aubree sat in his lap.
"The doctors said when Stella has healed enough to stand up and hold Isabelle, she'd be cleared to go home. Which I think is in three days," Jack replied as he sat by my side on the bed and laced his fingers with mine.
"So now that you guys have your baby, when will you tie the knot," Nate asked.
"I haven't gotten the ring yet, Nate. But I already asked and Stella said," Jack started.
"Yes," I finished for him, "I already wanted to spend the rest of my life with Jack and now that we have little Isabelle, it made everything set in stone. But I know we'll wait to tie the knot until I'm eighteen and my body has bounced back from having Isabelle."
"This is it, Isabelle. This is your home now," Jack cooed to Isabelle as we got into our house.
"Jack, take her out of her car seat while I get her bassinet ready in our room," I told him.
"Stella, why not have her sleep in her crib," he asked as he cradled Isabelle in his arms.
"My mom suggested that for the first month of having her home, we should have her sleep in our room so we can tend to her right away," I told him.
"Stella, she'll be fine upstairs. That way when we have to change her diaper we won't have to carry her upstairs as she screams in discomfort," Jack reasoned.
"I guess you're right, Jack. I'll take her upstairs while you get the baby monitor set up," I told him as he handed me Isabelle.
I sat in the rocking chair in Isabelle's room, just taking in everything. I wasn't just a lead singer in a band, a daughter to a famous musician, or a girlfriend to my best friend; I was a mother now to a happy and health baby girl.
"Alright I have the monitor ready to go," Jack whispered as he came into the room.
"Jack, do you think we'll be able to leave her home," I asked him as I put Isabelle into her crib.
"I don't know. We'd have to consult her doctor and ask your dad if he thinks that taking her on the road while she's really young so we don't miss a single milestone she has," Jack replied.
I woke up around midnight to a loud cry from the baby monitor. Jack was shifting next to me but I stopped him.
"I'll take care of her, Jack. Go back to sleep," I whispered before yawning. He laid back down on his pillow and I kissed him softly before going upstairs to take care of Isabelle.
I got into her room and I saw her crying while kicking her little feet. She looked so tormented but I could tell she was just trying to call for help.
"It's okay, baby girl. Mommy's here," I cooed to her as I scooped her up into my arms.
I changed Isabelle's diaper so she was fresh and clean again. I brushed her hair softly with my fingers and kissed her forehead before laying her back into her crib. I turned on her mobile and began to sing a lullaby to get her to fall asleep.
I began to leave the room and looked back at Isabelle as she slept soundly in her crib again. It was there I pictured her at each step of her life and seeing her making me and Jack so proud and happy.
I definitely want to have another baby, but not for a while. I want to enjoy raising Isabelle first.

Notes

Isabelle is going to have a great mommy. Stella is going to learn a lot from her mom and from just parenting Isabelle.
