Twenty-Seven
"Mommy, when will Stelly and Tommy be home," Noelle asked as I washed up the dishes from breakfast today. I was expecting Alex and the twins to be home this evening since the Sirens finished recording their first full length and would want to have a nice vacation before they;d go out on tour with All Time Low to start promoting their new album and help their dads' finish the ride on their latest before going into studio.
"Hopefully tonight, baby girl," I told her as I scooped her up and sat her on the counter next to the sink.
"I miss them, Mommy. Most exspecially Daddy. I miss coloring and playing and napping with him," Noelle gushed.
"I miss them too, sweetie. I want you to be on your best behavior while they're home. I don't want your father to be under too much stress while he's home," I told her, "Liam come help me out and dry the dishes while I continue washing the rest."
"Sure mom," Liam was a good boy, like Tom, but he was also one to sass me at times like Stella. I hope Stella is my only troublemaker. I can't handle two or three of them.
It was close to midnight and I had Liam and Noelle sleeping on either side of me on the couch. Both of them tried to wait up for their older brother and sister and their father to come home. I was trying to pass the time by watching TV at a low volume so Noelle and Liam could sleep.
My attention was pulled away from the TV when the front door opened and in walked my exhausted husband and my drowsy 16-year-olds. They must have gotten tired out from the drive.
"Hey Jules, I'm home. I brought the kids back in one piece," Alex greeted me with a big yawn before he bent over the back of the couch to kiss me tenderly like when we were younger and he was coming home from tour, not from the studio with Tom and Stella.
"Daddy, your're home," Noelle woke up first and rubbed the sleep from her eyes before leaping off the couch and ran into her father's waiting arms.
"Tom, Stella," Liam woke up next and ran to his siblings, both of whom wrapped him up in a group hug.
"Were you good for Mom, pip-squeak," Stella asked him. She always gave him the harsher nicknames, but I guess that's what older siblings did. She had to have picked that up from Alex since he had an older brother unlike me.
"Yeah, unlike you were when you stayed home with us," Liam sassed back at his sister. I rolled my eyes at my kids being kids.
"Stelly! Tommy," Noelle squealed as she ran into her big sister's arms. Stella spun her around, making Noelle squeal with laughter.
The next morning, I let the three of them sleep in while I took Liam and Noelle to school. I made lunch for Liam while he made himself and Noelle each a bowl of cereal. Once they were fed, I got Noelle bundled up to fight the cold October weather while Liam took care of himself. Once both were bundled up, I got myself into my jacket and grabbed my car keys and phone, and I led the way to get the kids out to school. I knew Alex would have liked to take Noelle and Liam to school with me, but he needed his rest after his long drive home.
When I got home, I found Stella sitting on the couch with her phone in her lap. She looked worried since her hands were tapping out a random drum beat on her knees and she stared at her phone. The poor girl must be waiting for Jack to call or text her. I was just like her when Alex had left me at home while he went out on tour. My attention moved to my husband who was leaning in the door way to the kitchen with a mug of coffee in his hand while the other stroked the stubble that was all over his middle-aged face. Even after all these years and four kids, he was still the sexiest man I ever laid my eyes on and I loved him with all of my being.
"So it's just the three of us. Tom took off to go spend the day with Aubree and Nate. He said something about meeting Nate's girlfriend. Nate invited Stella, but she's waiting on Jack to get a hold of her," Alex greeted me.
"Well when Stella knows her plan, you and I should maybe take Noelle out for the afternoon. She's missed you a lot, babe. Maybe we could take her to the zoo. Or maybe just you and I can stay home and clean the house again before I go get Liam from school," I told him.
"I think we both can take Noelle to the zoo. Stella and Jack can get Liam from school since I'm sure Jack will have to pick up Alex and Olivia too," he replied before pulling me in for a good morning kiss, "I missed so much, Jules. I'm going to hate heading out on tour again with the twins and their band. If only I could take you with me."
"You know I can't go with you, Alex. It would unfair to Noelle and Liam since they have to go to school. Plus there is one other thing keeping me here," I told him.
"What would that be," he asked.
"I got a job offer from a local portrait studio. They need a new photographer that can also work as a receptionist. I applied and I got the job. So now I'll be a working mom," I told him. The only pictures I took now were of the kids as they were growing up. Now that Alex and the twins were gone so much, I needed something to keep me busy. So with me having a job, I can help pay for stuff for the house and Alex can maybe afford to go on less tours with the guys since I could still support us a little.
"That's fantastic, Jules. I'm so proud of you, love," Alex set his mug down and scooped me up into his arms and spun me around, "When do you start?"
"I start next week on Thursday," I told him, "I work mornings for now until Noelle gets into first grade and can be at school all day."
