Tucked Away Underneath Your Bed

Letters

[Cameron.]

I really couldn't believe her. What was she going to do? Go up to Alex and be all like, "hey Alex, I'm your daughter"?
"Why am I having this conversation with myself?"
I sighed, and tore after her. I wasn't going to watch my best friend put her foot in her mouth and end up getting hurt.
"Cassadee!" I yelled. "Cassy!"
I managed to grab her by the arm but she pulled away.
"Leave me alone!"
"No! Whatever stupid thing you're about to do, I'll do it with you!"
Her face softened slightly but her frown remained.
"So you're coming with me to the Meet and Greet?"
"I guess, but I still think this isn't a good idea," I mumbled.
Thankfully she didn't hear me. I spent the rest of their set imagining possible scenarios of what could happen. I tried convincing myself that nothing horrible was going to happen, but something told me I couldn't avoid it, that I had gotten myself into this mess.
"When's the Meet and Greet?" I asked her.
"About half an hour after they finish."
"Okay."
I silently followed her when the set was over. She wanted to queue up already, and I sighed.
"Cassy... Do you honestly want to-"
"Yes, yes. I do."
"But just thi-"
"I've hoped for this day for years and years now. I'm not going to back out now."
"I know but re-"
"Are you going to stand here and try to stop me? You can leave if that's the case."
I sighed. "What I say isn't going to change anything, is it?"
"Nope."
I stayed quiet. Finally, the four of them showed up, and the queue went through fast enough. Before I knew it, it was our turn. I stayed quiet behind Cassy, as I had absolutely no idea who they were.
"Hey!" said the first guy at the table. He had a buzz cut and blindingly white teeth.
"Hi Rian!" Cassy grinned, and I just smiled. "I made this for you... It took me a really long time."
She handed him a drawing I had seen her working on and he smiled even wider.
"This is really good! Thanks!"
We then moved down the table and got pretty much the same reactions. She had drawn all of them, but she had something extra for Alex.
"Hey there kiddo!" Alex said joyfully, eyes hidden away behind sunglasses.
"Hi, A-Alex," Cassy said. "I drew you..."
She slid the paper across the table to him, and he picked it up. He didn't say anything for half a minute, then looked up and said, "Wow. You drew this?"
She nodded.
"It's... It's really good."
"Thank you, that means a lot."
"Thanks for this, by the way. Have a good day and stay safe!"
"You too, Alex. Oh, wait!" She pulled something else out of her bag, and I assumed it was a letter. "I wrote this. Please read it, when you have time..."
He took it from her and smiled. "I will. I promise."
Cassy and I smiled, and walked away.
"You think he recognized you?" I asked after a while.
"I hope so."
"And that letter?"
"I'm positive he'll read it."
"And when he does?"
She was quiet for a minute. "I'm just hoping he'll email me back."

[William.]
-About an hour later-

Cassadee was sly. Definitely. She never told me why she wanted to go to Warped so desperately, but now that I think about it, it was so obvious. I had to find her before she messed everything up with that goddamn want to make our dad part of the family once again.
But how do I find her?
Suddenly, a idea came to my mind. I typed out a quick text to Cameron.

To: Cam
Where are you guys?

His answer came quickly.

From: Cam
Not far from ATL's stall. Get here.
Come to the Boys Like Girls stall.

"Hey mom?"
"Yes?"
"Let's go check out Boys Like Girls merch!"
"Okay, I saw it not too far from here!"
I silently sighed with relief, and followed her.
"There. Oh, look! There are Cassadee and Cam!"
I looked in the direction in which she was pointing to. Cam noticed me as well and dragged Cassadee over.
"Hey guys!" Cam said, trying to sound as if he wasn't at all expecting us to be around here.
"Hey," Cassadee smiled. I knew that smile. She was trying to cover up something.
"Hey guys," mom smiled. "You both having fun?"
"Oh yeah, definitely. This is so awesome!"
I smiled slightly, looking at Cassy through my dark brown bangs that fell over my face, so she didn't see my expression.
"Will, get your hair off your face," she smirked. Dammit.
"It's none of your business, Cassy," I sneered back.
"It looks like you've got something to hide."
"You're a fine one to talk."
She glared at me but didn't answer. I knew it.
Just then, a voice came from behind her.
"Cassadee?"
We all turned to see who it was, and I swear to god, I had never felt so much anger and hate in my whole life.
It was the one and only Alex fucking Gaskarth.
He looked from Cassadee, to Cam, to me, then his eyes finally landed on mom. He said her name in a slight whisper, and I looked at her.
Her eyes were slitted. I knew she was just as angered as I was, if not more.
"Hey."
She raised her eyebrow.
"How have you been?"
"I don't feel the need to answer that question since you obviously do not care."
He seemed slightly taken aback. "Fair enough."
Mom turned to me. "Come on, Will. Asking Alexandria will be playing soon." Then she looked at Cassadee. "As for you... We need to talk when we get home."
