A Story to Tell Your Friends

Twenty-Four.

“Say cheese!” Tammy called, holding my phone in her hands and pressing the button. I grinned widely between the three guys Jack had convinced to take a picture with me. I’d resisted a little, but gave in quickly, knowing I wouldn’t have said no under any other circumstances. “Perfect,” she smiled, handing my phone back to me. I looked at the picture, grinning.
“See, you’re not acting like the biggest fan girl ever anymore,” Jack told me, leaning over my shoulder and looking at the picture himself.
“Shut up, I’m reining myself in for your sake,” I told him, nudging him away.
Managed to snag backstage passes for @Blink182 and met these beautiful human beings. Excuse me while I die.
Jack laughed at my caption as I hit send and uploaded the picture to my social media accounts, for once including Facebook so I could brag to everyone back home. Jack wrapped his arms around my waist as the others filtered away from the pair of us and rested his chin on my shoulder.
“How are you feeling now?” He asked softly.
“Perfect,” I admitted. “Thank you so much for this, Jack. It means the fucking world to me.”
“I know. That’s why I did it.” I smiled to myself, thankful Jack couldn’t see the entirety of my face. He’d been incredible for the last three weeks and I couldn’t help but fall a little more in love with him with everything he did.
“Got it,” Alex said loudly, causing Jack and I to look up suddenly.
“Why do you have my phone?” Jack asked, releasing me and walking over to Alex.
“I stole it,” he shrugged. I cocked an eyebrow at him and walked over myself. “Lisa said you didn’t have any pictures of you and Clara and that it was my job to get one,” he explained, rolling his eyes and showing Jack and I the picture he’d managed to sneak. “It wasn’t difficult. Unless you’re using it to talk to Clara, you leave your phone in the stupidest places.” Jack snagged his phone back from Alex, turning away from us and looking at it closely. I laughed at his reaction and rolled my eyes.
“Your friend is such a drama queen,” I told Alex.
When @Blink182 give you backstage passes and allow this beautiful human being to meet them @claraparapie
I snorted when the notification came through my phone, inspecting the picture myself for the first time. Jack and I were both grinning stupidly and looking at my phone, his chin on my shoulder and arms clearly around my waist. I briefly felt a little concern that he’d tagged me in such a couple-y picture, but I ignored it, suddenly realising how important that was. He’d never openly spoken about me on any of his accounts, let alone tagged me in anything, and I appreciated that it was quite a big step to finally let his fans know I even existed, especially when it came in the form of a photo like this.
I sometimes forget that @JackAllTimeLow is an absolute babe.
I typed quickly, retweeting the picture myself. I heard a short laugh from the other side of Alex and Jack took his head out of his phone.
“You two are such losers,” Alex told us, shaking his head. My phone vibrated quickly, telling me Alex had liked both my tweets.
“Says the guy who just liked my tweet,” I snorted.
“I’m not the one who’s gushing about someone in the room via the internet and not my words,” he shot back. “Besides, you’re going to be flooded with crap for the next two hours. I had to make it worse for you.” I laughed back at him, knowing he was right as my phone buzzed in my hand once again. I checked and noticed a retweet from someone I’d never heard of and rolled my eyes, deciding I wasn’t checking it anymore. I shoved my phone in my pocket.
“You both owe me so bad,” I told them as I felt my phone go off again.
“Hey, I got you in here. I’m set for life,” Jack retorted.
“Fine, but Alex definitely owes me.” Alex shrugged, wandering back to the group and typing away on his phone as he did, most likely texting Lisa.
“It’s okay. Like Alex said, it’ll be crazy for a couple of hours and then people will move on,” he shrugged, seeming like he was trying to reassure me.
“You do realise I don’t care, right? I think it’s really cute you wanted people to know about me,” I smiled up at him.
“Haven’t you noticed? I always want everyone to know about you,” he told me, wrapped his arms around my waist once again. I rested my face on his chest, my arms wrapping themselves around him too.
“I’d probably be best deleting all my snide tweets about you,” I laughed. “Or I could leave them and have half of your fans hate me.”
“Leave them up, there’s only about five people in the world who understand them anyway,” he told me. “Besides, they remind me to stop being an ass. If I don’t, you might start calling me Dandelion again.”
“Jack! We need to finish getting ready. We go on in half an hour,” I heard Zack call to Jack. I sighed, letting go of him.
“Are you guys okay showing these two where to go when we go on?” Jack asked Mark and the guys, who were currently in conversation with Tammy while the other boys filed out of the room. The guys looked at Jack briefly and nodded. “Are you gonna be okay?” He asked me.
“Yes, I’ll be perfectly fine,” I told him, smiling. “Now go get ready. I’ll see you later.”
“Are you excited?” Tammy asked as I sat myself down beside her. I looked at her, raising my eyebrows as if she’d just asked me the stupidest question possible, which, admittedly, she had.
“No, I’m bored to death,” I replied, sarcastically. “Hey, wait!” Tammy covered her face with her hands.
“I can’t believe you.” I heard the three guys laugh next to her and grinned brightly.
“I didn’t do it on purpose, I promise. Besides, you don’t see me mocking you every time you tell me to forget about something.”
“I don’t do it in front of my favourite band though.”
“Aw, am I embarrassing you? I’m sorry, I totally toned it down so Jack would think I was super cool.”
“That was you toned down?” Matt asked me, to which I grinned.
“Sweetie, you don’t know the half of it.” Tammy snorted and finally looked up at me.
“What happened to the girl who was shaking and couldn’t speak two hours ago? I miss her.”
“Bite me. She was a downer.”
“You know, I can definitely see it,” Mark told me, suddenly. I cocked my head to one side, unsure what he was suddenly seeing.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean why he likes you so much. You’re basically just him, but- “
“But with a vagina. Yeah, I’ve heard.”
“Well, he did the same as you first time we met. He freaked out a bit and then calmed down and started making jokes. Admittedly, it took him a little longer, but you get the picture.”
“What’s it like to see Jack freak out? I’ve gotta admit, he always seems so calm. It’s normally me acting like a total loser and flipping out over nothing.”
“Clara, you can’t pump Mark Hoppus for information on Jack,” Tammy sighed.
“Why not?”
“It’s rude. Besides, I’ve seen Jack freak out, so has Lisa, why don’t you ask either of us?”
You’ve seen Jack freak out?” Tammy clamped her lips shut, slightly wide eyed. I looked at her suspiciously, feeling like she knew something I didn’t.
“We’re done talking about Jack now. You’re meeting Blink, not discussing Jack Barakat.”
“What? Mark’s heard enough about me over the last two months, I’m sure he’s fine with me returning the favour about Jack.”
“Stop it now. You’ve got five minutes left before Jack goes on,” she told me. I narrowed my eyes at her, though accepting her logic.
“This isn’t over,” I warned. “We’ll talk about this when we get home.”
“Yeah, like you’re going home with me tonight,” she snorted quietly. I heard the guys laugh again and blushed brightly.
“Come on, we’d best get you to the side stage,” Mark said, interrupting me before I could defend myself. I elbowed Tammy in the side slightly, choosing to express my embarrassment non-verbally instead.
“Clara!” Jack shouted, as I finally made it to the side of the stage. It was 6:58, all of two minutes before Jack was due to go on stage. He had his guitar strapped around his neck and looked ready to go. “Are you excited yet?”
“To see you play? Hell fucking yes.” I grinned at him and he mirrored my expression.
“You know I didn’t mean that, but I’ll take it.”
“60 seconds!” A voice called.
“I really am excited to see you play. I’ve seen you once before, but that was in like 2008. This is totally different.” Jack’s grin didn’t falter at my words, but seemed to spread wider. “Are you nervous?”
“Yes. Apparently I’ve only ever played for you once before, so I feel like I have a lot to live up to.” I snorted. That wasn’t the answer I’d expected.
“There’s no pressure. I’ll love it no matter how much you suck.”
“Jack!” Alex called, signalling that they needed to move. I sighed, the familiar feeling washing over me of not wanting him to leave my side for one second. It was the first time I’d seen him in 3 weeks, and the first time I’d done so sober in nearly 2 months, and I felt the exact same as I used to already.
“I’ll see you in a bit,” he told me.
“Good luck. I’m sure you’ll smash it,” I replied, leaning up and placing a small kiss on his cheek.
“I will now.”
“If that boy isn’t in love with you, I don’t know what love is,” Tammy told me, as we watched Jack race out onto the stage after everyone else. I bit my lip, smiling slightly.
“I really hope you’re right.” The boys kicked into their first song and I hummed lightly. I didn’t know any of the words, but the tune had been blasted through Tammy’s bedroom door more times than I could count. I felt guilty for having been friends with this group of guys for so long and not caught up on anything. I was the worst person. “I really need to listen to their new albums,” I shouted to Tammy, who was belting out the song next to me.
“I can definitely help with that! I thought you’d never ask!” She replied, still nodding along to the song. I laughed as she went straight back to the music, picking up the song again in time with Alex.
“Wait! I know this one!” I shrieked fifteen minutes later when Six Feet Under the Stars started up. Tammy looked at me briefly, rolling her eyes. I started singing along with her, moving a little to the song, remembering listening to this song on repeat during High School.
“Pass me another bottle, honey; the Jäger’s so sweet, but if it keeps you around then I’m down!” I sang. Jack looked over at me, mouthing the words along with Alex and winking at me. I grinned at him and he turned back toward the crowd. I remembered the first night I’d gone out with everyone (Tammy included) and Jack’s attempt at a pick up line and I couldn’t wipe the grin from my face, knowing he remembered it too.
“Hey, Alex. Have you ever tried to pick up a girl with our own lyrics?” Jack asked when the song ended. “Because I have.”
“Oh, yeah? And how did that go?”
“Perfectly, she thinks I’m super cool. Thanks, man.” I snorted and felt Tammy nudge me slightly. I looked at her briefly, noting the questioning look on her face and nodding in response. I had forgotten she hadn’t arrived until after that.
“Oh, you mean that weirdo who was hanging around backstage making a fool of herself in front of Mark and Travis? I’m not sure that’s an achievement. And I think she prefers Mark anyway,” Alex joked in response. I booed loudly at Alex’s words, making Jack glance over to me and laugh.
“I don’t think she agrees.”
“Oh, yeah, because she’s in love with Billie Joe Armstrong. My bad.” This time Alex turned to look at me and grinned. I blushed brightly, placing my hands over my face. I heard the boys laughing on stage at me and looked back up.
“Okay, okay. I think we’ve embarrassed her enough for one night,” Jack said, still laughing.
“Just as long as she remembers to breathe again for the rest of the night!” I put my hands back over my face as Tammy laughed at me. I was glad when the boys started another song I didn’t know and Tammy wrapped her arm around my shoulders, still laughing.
“What did I get myself into?” I asked her, my cheeks still burning, but taking my face out of my hands.
“I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to tease you publicly for life,” she responded. I groaned, realising she was probably right and that maybe I should have kept my respiratory system in check.
“I fell in love with the biggest dweeb in existence,” I laughed. “It’s only fair I pay for it.” Tammy cocked her eyebrow at me for a second, a smile pulling at her lips.
“You know, that’s the first time you’ve actually admitted that to me.” I shrugged. I know I should have acted like this was a bigger deal than I was currently showing, but I’d resigned myself to the fact over a month ago. Jack already knew, Lisa already knew, Alex already knew… and Tammy, well, she’d probably known before I did.
“What? I do love him, and you’ve probably known the entire time.” I was trying to be as quiet as possible, while still allowing her to hear.
“Well, I’m glad you finally admitted it.” I laughed at her, shaking my head.

Notes

Kind of filler-y, kind of cute. Kind of love it anyway.
Besides, it's my birthday in about 13 hours, so have an update. Watching the view count go up makes my day. <3
