Shut Up And Kiss Me Now

chapter 7

I don't think I am capable of

This teenage televised taping of love.

But here is my guide on how to be alone:

Just act like a freak and

Sleep with everyone you've ever known

//

Jack

I didn’t really know how Cass and Rian were going to react by my bringing Alex to our lunch table, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t gonna do it anyway.

Cass is usually super bitchy about people sitting at our table other than if they are trying to set up some kind of deal, which is understandable because we can’t just put our trust into random people that could go off blowing all the secrets we know to the whole school.
But I won’t let her act that way around Alex.

I glanced at the blonde boy who I had my arm wrapped around, who was looking around the lunch room with wide eyes.

Damn, if only the football players and cheerleaders were at lunch today, I could’ve introduced him to Zack properly, that didn’t involve Zack getting shut down.

“Over here,” I told him, leading him to the small table towards the middle of the lunch room where Cass and Rian were eating lunch.

As we approached them I watched Cass’s eyebrows pinch together in confusion and eyes narrow into a glare, like if I let the british kid sit with us she’d get up and leave.

“Guys this is Alex… Umm.. Alex uhh…” I trailed off when I forgot his last name, looking at him with raised eyebrows.

“Gaskarth,” he chuckled.

“Yeah, fuck, you sound so posh. This is Rian and that bitch is Cass.” I introduced, sitting down in one of the chairs and pulling out the extra one and gestured for him to sit down.

I watched him put his bag on the ground and sit in the chair, taking advantage of the opportunity to stare at his lean legs that were covered with skin tight black jeans. His form fitting white v neck clung perfectly to his torso, displaying his lightly toned arms open for me to see as he placed his hands on the table, looking slightly shy and uncomfortable but I could tell he was slightly relaxed by my presence since I had just saved his nice ass from being kicked.
I was too busy shamelessly checking him out that I almost didn’t hear Cass start talking.

“Uhh, I don’t care who he is. What’s he doing here?” Cass gave me her signature, ‘are you kidding me?’ look and I rolled my eyes.

“Nothing brightens up a room like you, huh?” I scoffed sarcastically.

“It’s nice to meet you, Alex.” Rian gave him one of his flashy, white smiles. Alex returned a timid smile, glancing over at Cass who was giving him a death stare.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Rian.” he greeted, seeming a little relieved by getting a kinder welcome from him.

Rian was always the nicer one of the group. He always tried to keep us out of trouble the best he could, making sure we weren't crossing the line while joking around with each other, and he always wanted to make sure he were safe. His short and styled light brown hair, and overall just friendly appearance made everyone instantly comfortable when they were around him.

I’ve been told that I have the opposite affect on people, with the fact that I’m 6’2, with dyed hair, always wear darker colors and usually a leather jacket or something. Rian said that I scare some of the kids in the lower grades, but I took it as a compliment. I’m just glad that I didn’t scare Alex, I might have intimidated him a little at first by calling him hot before anything else, but I think he got over it.

Cass looked over at me with wide eyes, and I rolled my eyes at her in silent communication.

“‘Kay, nice talking to you british boy. Bye!” Cass raised his eyebrows at him, and gestured her hand for him to leave.

I wrapped my arm around his shoulders as he started to get up, and felt Alex lean into my touch.

“He stays,” I declared, making Cass scoff.

“Are you kidding me, Jack? Really?” she threw her hands up in the air in frustration.
God, since when did she become such a bitch?

She’s more like me than she is like Rian. She’s pretty damn hard headed, with a rough shell on the outside but she could be sweet and sensitive when she wanted to.
That’s just very rarely.
Most of the girls at school either hated Cass because she can be bitchy, I think she’s bad ass but according to the cheerleaders rumors they spread about her she is just a jerk. I could see how people could feel a little daunted by her with her dark eye makeup, blonde and brown hair, and common attire of monochrome colors. I’ve known her for forever, so I’m completely unphased by her appearance and I think it suits her.

“Look, if you guys don’t want me here, I can sit somewhere else. It’s fine-”

“You’re not going anywhere, dimples. It’s just Cass’s time of the month.” I shrugged my shoulders and Alex bit his lip to hold back a laugh.

“Dimples?” Rian asked, confused.

“That’s me.” Alex told him, Rian smiled and nodded approvingly.

“You gave him a nickname? Wow Jack, I didn’t know you were screwing the new kid already.” Cass laughed, obviously joking but purposely trying to annoy me.

Alex sat up quickly, obviously panicked by her comment, and looked over at me with wide brown eyes and a blushing face. Fuck, I didn’t even know if he was gay or not yet. Shit.
So much for easing into that conversation.

“N-No! U-Uh he’s not… I-I’m not-”

“I’m not screwing him yet,” I corrected her, winking at Alex making him scoff and blush harder.

“You guys are so cute I wanna puke, but seriously. Leave, kid.” Cass told him rudely.

“Why the fuck do you want him to leave so bad? He’s cool.” Rian defended him.

“We can’t fucking trust him! Jack, you’re breaking your own rule!! You said we aren’t allowed to bring other fuckers to the table unless they’re making a deal or something! You don’t know who the kid will go off and tell, we don’t even know him!” Cass argued, crossing her arms over her chest in frustration.

“Jesus fucking Christ, just relax. He’s fine, okay? Did I even ask for your opinion on this?” I questioned her. Okay, so maybe she did have a point, but it’s not like Alex is just dying to spread gossip around the school, I was the only person he knew.

“Stop talking shit, Jack. I think your skinny jeans are cutting off the circulation to your brain or something because I’ve seriously stepped in things smarter than you.” she sneered.

Ugh, why is she so irritating?

“Maybe if you wait a little longer, a fuck will fall into my hand and I can give it to you.” I offered sarcastically, making Rian and Alex laugh.

I felt my heartbeat speed up when I heard to Alex’s melodic laughter. It was cute and goofy but also somehow sexy at the same time. The way he just let loose and shamelessly let out the most adorable sound I’ve ever heard without even knowing or trying was just amazing to me. It kind of shocked me because I had no idea that just someone’s laugh could affect me like this, but hearing the gorgeous sound made my body heat up and butterflies filled in stomach.

He’s so charming he’s driving me fucking crazy.

“It’s hard to believe they are best friends, but they are.” Rian chuckled to Alex, making him smile bigger and flaunt those precious fucking dimples that make my knees go weak.

Ugh, I gotta stop thinking about him like this. After I start hanging out with Stella more I’m sure that he won’t have the same affect on me as he does now.

“I can’t fucking believe you Jack,” Cass shook her head at me.

“But he’s so cute!! Look at this face! Mom and Dad I promise I’m ready for the responsibility of owning a puppy.” I told them sarcastically, leaning over and squishing Alex’s cheeks making him laugh again.

“I don’t see the big deal,” Rian started rubbing Cass’s back and she glared at him.

She’s obviously got some trust issues or something, but I gotta admit, I’m pretty fucking biased because Alex is hot and I’m starting to seriously take a liking to him. She has a point but the thought of him sitting at another table or being in a different friend group made me mad for some reason, but I didn’t think was important enough to keep thinking about.

“Jack, would you just fucking try to see things from my point of view? The LOGICAL side that actually makes sense?” Cass went on, glaring at me through eyes decorated with detailed winged eyeliner and bronze and darker brown eyeshadow.

“I’d love to see things from your point of view Cass, but I can’t get my head that far up my ass.” I laughed, not being able to stay serious for 5 seconds.

I expected the witty comeback I heard next to come from Cass, mocking me for being bi and liking it up the ass or something, but I was shocked to hear the sweet accented voice of Alex.

“That’s because you're so full of shit, Jack.”

My jaw dropped and an excited smile spread across my face, Cass and Rian’s screaming and cheering filled my ears and I wrapped both my arms around Alex and squeezed him tightly.

Alex laughed at our shocked and proud reactions, I appreciated the feeling of his arms around my body a little too much before I let him go.

I thought he was just shy british boy, I didn’t think he would be sassy. Fuck, that's fucking hot.
I could seriously get used to hearing him talk back to me.

Somehow he just keeps getting better and better, and now I don’t know how the hell I’m going to control myself around him while I’m setting him up with Zack.

He seemed to literally just fall from fucking heaven, and I’m loving every minute of it.

“I LOVE HIM! He can stay! I don’t give a fuck anymore, we are keeping him!!” Cass declared, making everyone laugh again.

“Yay!!” I cheered and squished Alex into my side, making Alex smile big and lean his head on my shoulder. Ugh, why’s he gotta do this to me?

“Thank god, because the only person I know here yet is you. I didn’t know where I was gonna go.” Alex sighed in relief, looking at me with shining brown eyes.

“Well, now ya know these assholes, plus, I wouldn’t have let you sit alone. If they kicked you out I would’ve left too.” I lifted up my hand to cup his face and brush my thumb along his dimple, making his cheeks blush as he looked down bashfully, and nudged my leg with his knee and I did the same to him.

“You sure you guys aren’t dating or anything?” Rian pressed and Cass laughed. Alex’s head shot instantly, I jerked my head away so he wouldn’t collide into my chin.

I don’t know who he thinks he’s fooling when he’s being surprised whenever they suggest he’s gay. No straight guy would let me have my arm around him all day, let alone me fucking touching his cute ass face.

He probably doesn’t want to come out which would explain why he rejected Zack, but it sucks.
I’m sure I could get him to tell me the reason why though, I’ll ask him later, and try my best not to be a dick about it.

“Not dating yet,” I smirked, Alex smacked me on the arm making me laugh.

“Shut up, Jack.” he laughed. I winked at him and he rolled his eyes but I could see the blush forming on his cheeks. If he’s so easily affected just by me winking at him, I’d love to see what would happen if I did some other stuff to him.

“Make me, dimples.” I challenged playfully, chuckling as he shoved some of the potato chips he was eating into my mouth.
I nearly started choking on the sour taste of salt and vinegar because I hate that flavor, but felt my heart skip a beat once Alex’s giggling filled my ears.

“Okay, enough flirting ladies. If Alex wants to know a fucking thing about this school, we gotta introduce him to the different cliques.” Cass leaned back in her chair, looking ready to go off on a tangent.
She thinks she’s so great, I was the one who fucking explained the clique theory to her.

“Cliques?” Alex repeated, wanting to hear more.

“You know what a clique means, right babe? You’re in my AP Lit class as a junior so hopefully you would.” I asked him in attempt to push his buttons, biting back a smile when I saw how his face reacted when I called him ‘babe.’

“I know what it means, unlike you my IQ exceeds my age.” he responded sassily, making the whole table burst out in laughing yet again.

“DAMN,” Cass praised.

“Fuck! You’ve got a fucking mouth on you!” I exclaimed and he shrugged modestly, returning to his bashful self once he got attention.

“And to think Cass was going to kick him out before we had the pleasure of hearing his comebacks.” Rian spoke.

“Please never leave, I think I’m in love with you. Sorry Ri,” Cass joked.
The unfamiliar feeling that I’ve been getting lately when I’m around Alex came bubbling up in my chest again, and squished him just a little closer to me with my arm that was wrapped around his shoulders.

“Okay, okay. Just explain the cliques you were talking about.” Alex laughed, and Cass nodded, clearing her throat like it was some sort of speech.

“Well, basically wherever you sit in the lunchroom is gonna be you’re labeled group of friends. The tables are kinda formed in the circle, and the farther away from the inner circle the less popular you are, and the closer you are to the center the more popular you are.” Cass explained, I practically knew everything she was saying word for word because I explained this all to her when I was a freshman.

“Wait, we’re near the center.” Alex pointed out, looking around at the groups surrounding us.

“Wow, good observation, blondie.” Cass scoffed, Rian chuckled and I frowned as Alex’s gaze dropped to the ground.

Remind me to yell at Cass for that later.

I nudged Alex’s leg with mine in a silent attempt to reassure him and he nudged me back.

“Pretty much everybody knows us and adores us because of what we do so, we’re pretty damn popular. Not that it really matters or anything.” Cass explained.
I know that even though Cass couldn’t be more different than the generic, popular high school girl, she loved knowing that people knew who she was.

“What do you guys do?” Alex looked up at me.

“Tell ‘em, Jack.” Cass urged me, cocking one eyebrow at me as if it was a challenge for me to tell Alex that I made a deal with Zack.

There was no way I was going to tell Alex about what and me and Zack agreed on. Maybe one day when we’re closer, or if he’s already dating Zack and I’m already with Stella. I wouldn’t want to screw up the plan, but most of all I really don’t want to hurt his feelings.
He’d probably think that I just wanna hang out with him because he’s part of some scheme for me to get the girl I like, but that’s not the case.

I actually seriously like this kid, a lot.

“Pretty much I do stuff for people, like get them fake id’s, answer sheets to midterms, alcohol and other shit, and they pay me or give me other stuff for it. It’s not a big deal.” I told him, not wanting for him to think any differently of me
I don’t know what it’s like in England but I’m sure there weren’t any people like me in his preppy private school.

“Oh, okay. That’s cool.” he responded casually.

“He does dates too, people pay him to set them up with cheerleaders and stuff.” Rian added, panic ran through me for a second and I shot him a glare, and he gave me a weird look.

Fuck, he doesn’t know about my deal with Zack yet.
I glanced at Cass who tried to brush it off but looked at me with eyes wide with panic.

I mouthed ‘be cool’ silently to her, she nodded in agreement and Alex gave us a weird look.

“Cass helps me out with stuff when I need her.” I explained.

“No, I’m not his bitch. If anyone here’s the bitch, it’s Jack.” Cass laughed.

“Go on with the clique thing,” Alex urged.

“Alright, well over there, in the exact middle of the circle are where the football team and cheerleaders sit. The football team consists of the most popular jocks who think they rule the school, but that’s actually us. Most of them are matched up with a cheerleader, they all call each other ‘bro’, and have their own designated nerd to do all their homework. Their table is mixed in with the cheerleaders who are dumb as shit, but they all look like supermodels. They are all too faced bitches that don’t care about anyone but themselves, and anything but their fake nails, fake hair, and fake boyfriends.” Cass explained, pointing to the empty tables a few yards away.

“Where are they?” Alex asked.

“They are doing something for a pep rally this Friday, practicing or some shit.” Rian told him.

“That’s why Jack isn’t drooling and or getting a boner while staring at the cheerleaders boobs.” Cass commented, and I nodded.

“True,”

“Those tables are kind of a mix of a few different teams, the girls soccer, volleyball, and field hockey teams. They invest all their time into practices and games after school, and all of their money on adidas and nike merchandise. Most of them are stuck up bitches that think they are better than everyone else, and are usually paired up with their male equivalents. Those are the guys basketball, soccer, and hockey teams. Slightly less douchebags then the football team, but they’re always more obnoxious than usual during this time of year because the football team is getting all the attention.” Cass explained, Alex shook his head as he looked at them.

“Yeah, I met the basketball team earlier.” he told her, and she nodded.

“Basically, they are still popular, but not enough that everybody knows them by name. Next to them is what I named, ‘The Contour Club.’ They wake up at 5 in the morning everyday to curl their hair, and do their makeup to perfection, with fake eyelashes, filled in brows and eyeliner sharp enough to stab someone. Their idol is Kylie Jenner or any of the other Kardashians. The cheerleaders and them are considered the prettiest girls in school, and they are also matched up with douchey jocks.” Cass gestured to a group of girls that were all struggling to use their phones with their long fake nails.

“Then a little farther back are the preps, with the easter egg colored clothes. Most of them play golf or tennis, nothing to get their hands too dirty, and their rich parents pay for their pretty little pearled necklaces and boat shoes. Over to the right are the hipsters, even though they don’t like being labeled. They try really hard to make their wardrobe look effortless and vintage. Obsessed with big framed glasses, bowties, photography, thrift stores, and being assholes.” Cass pointed to each group with a finger.

“Then over there are the punks, who look more like your type, blondie. They spend their days tweeting band members they adore, constantly listening to music that would get them in trouble if they played it out loud, and fantasizing of being a part of their own band one day. Their wardrobe consists of nothing but band tees, skinny jeans, and either vans or converse. Behind them are the skaters, who can also be a part of the punk crowd. They’re a bit more rebellious but I guess that depends on the person. Skaters are big slackers, and they are good friends with the stoners. Their fashion is basically just tie dye, and are in a constant state of confusion, plus they usually come to school high.” Cass explained, I watched Alex nodding his head, taking in every detail as he looked over the kids in the groups that fit Cass’s description.

“To the left are the drama club kids, just as dramatic offstage as they are on stage. All they talk about is broadway, and have super busy schedules. Most of them are pretty sweet to other cliques, besides the occasional diva. Next to them are the cool nerds, constantly on their phones, they love Danisnotonfire, they identify themselves as ‘memetrash.’ They spend their free time on Youtube, Reddit, Buzzfeed, and Tumblr. They are pretty nice as long as you don’t insult their 'otp'. Then finally it’s just the regular, boring nerds. They think they know everything, they dress like slobs, they are super introverted, and usually smell a little bad.”

“Damn, how are you not out of breath?” Rian chuckled.

“I am,” Cass laughed.

“I couldn’t have said it better myself.” I commented, even though I was the only who practically created these groups.

“Do I have to memorize all of those?” Alex’s eyes were wide.

“Nah, you can just sit here and look cute.” I told him, and chuckled as a blush formed on his cheeks and he looked away from me.

“I bet they’ll start dating in a week.” Rian predicted with a laugh.

“I highly doubt that,” Cass muttered, too quiet for anyone else but me to hear.

I kicked her in the shin, she yelped in pain and glared at me, and I returned the same look.

“Don’t fuck this up for me,” I used my hand as a shield so they couldn't read my lips as I whispered to Cass, thankful that Rian had started a conversation with Alex.

“I won’t, but you’ll fuck it up yourself if you keep flirting with the kid. I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but you better decide fast if doing that cute shit with Alex is what you want instead of the girl you’ve been in love with for years.” she whispered back.
