We've Got Unfinished Business

"Okay mom we'll be back in a few hours." I said and quickly tried to leave the house with Aubrey before she could stop me.

"Wait! Where are you two going?" She stopped me.

"Um we're just going to meet a friend."

"What friend? Is it Kellin?"

"No."

"Alex?" She guessed and I nodded. "Why are you two going to see him this late?"

"He made us dinner." I shrugged to downplay it.

"So it's a date?"

"No mom, he just wanted to see Aubrey and he volunteered to cook for us so we wouldn't have to go out to eat."

"Okay, I don't think I have to remind you that you're still a minor."

"We're just having dinner. Nothing to worry about."

"Okay. Well you both have fun."

"We will, bye." I said.

I drove Aubrey and me to Alex's parents’ house. He really wanted to take us out to eat, but we decided against it since we didn't want to accidentally see any of his fans. I didn't care where we met, just as long as we could talk about everything.

When I made it to their house I took Aubrey out of her car seat and grabbed her diaper bag. Then we went to the door and I rang the doorbell.

"Hey come in!" Alex told me. He moved to the side and let us walk in. We hugged once the door was closed and he took Aubrey from me. "I missed my princess!" He exclaimed and raised her above his head. She squealed and giggled as he brought her down and kissed her on the cheek.

"She missed you too." I chuckled.

We walked over to the table and he pulled my chair out for me and I thanked him. Then he sat down and sat Aubrey in his lap. She didn't have a high chair so she was going to have to sit there while we fed her. He made steak and mashed potatoes for us.

"Where are your parents?" I asked.

"I paid for them to go out to eat for dinner so we could have the house to ourselves." He told me.
"Oh. That was nice."

“Mhm.”

I put some mashed potatoes on my fork and tried to feed Aubrey, but she decided she wanted to feed herself. She stuck her fingers in Alex’s mash potatoes and stuck her fingers in her mouth.

“Aubrielle what are you doing?” I scolded her. I grabbed her hand and cleaned it off with a napkin. She started whining and trying to fight my hand away.

“I don’t mind sharing with her.” Alex chuckled. He put some potatoes on his fork and put it to Aubrey’s mouth. She ate it without any problems and opened her mouth for more.

“You’re such a messy girl.” I said and kissed her on the cheek.

"So everything is back to normal, right? Like we can go back to how we were before?" Alex asked, shyly.

"Yeah. I said I forgive you. I don't think I could have stayed mad at you forever anyways." I said honestly.

"Thank god." He smiled and looked down at his plate. I could tell there was something he wanted to say. I continued to eat and feed Aubrey for him until he was ready to speak.

"I um go back to New York next weekend . . . What do you think about coming back with me...when you turn eighteen of course?" he blurted out.

"Alex." I said, shocked.

"Wait wait before you say no, I looked into the nursing schools and there are many around the condo I was looking at for us. And there are a lot of pre-schools we can put Aubrey in."

"But we'd be alone when you left for tour." I complained.

"I'd only be gone a few months at a time, and we don't tour around major holidays any more. I'm just ready to settle down with you two. I want to see you both when I wake up in the morning. I want to be able to tell you that I love you in person while we lay in our bed." He smiled at me.

"That honestly sounds great Alex, but I would be leaving all of my family and starting over in a new city all alone. That's kind of scary."

"You won't be alone, Aubrey and I will be there with you." He said and I chuckled.

"Um can I take a few days to think it over?"

"Yeah take as long as you need."

"Okay. Thanks."

We finished eating and we went to sit in the living room. We watched cartoons with Aubrey until she fell asleep. Alex laid her in his bed and came back down to cuddle with me on the couch. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and I snuggled into his side. I was still in shock that he actually asked me to move in with him. I didn't even notice when he started talking to me.

"Jack." He lightly shook me.

"Hmm?"

"I asked if you were alright." He chuckled.

"Oh sorry. Yeah I'm fine, just thinking."

"About?"

"About living with you."

"If you don't want to or if you're not ready yet I completely understand. It was just a thought." He said and I shook my head.

"It's not that. I'm just shocked that you actually want me to live with you."

"I don't know why that's so hard to believe." He chuckled.

"I thought you would hate me forever after you found out my real age. And now you're asking me to move in with you."

"I'm way over that Jack. If you didn't lie to me I wouldn't have you or Aubrey right now, so I'm kind of happy that you did it." He said and I laughed. He leaned down, pulled my face to his kissed me. We made out for a few minutes and then I pulled away. I was probably doing this in the spur of the moment.

"Okay." I mumbled.

"Okay what?"

"Okay I'll move to New York with you." I chuckled and he happily kissed me again.

“Are you sure? I don’t want you to do it just to make me happy.”

“Yeah I’m sure, Lex. New York sounds amazing.” I assured him.

"Okay. I just don’t want to pressure you into to doing something you don’t want." He told me.

"You’re not! So what will our look like?"

"It's pretty nice. It has two bedrooms and it looks over the city. I figured we could stay in it for a couple of years until we found a house."

"I can't wait to see it!" I exclaimed.

"I go back next week. Do you think your mom would let you come with me to see it?" He asked.

"Um I can try asking. I don't think she's going to love the idea of me moving out as soon as I turn eighteen so she might fight me on it."

"She probably hates me." He chuckled.

"Hate is such a strong word. She probably just doesn't like you and doesn't like us together."

"I guess that's better." He said sarcastically and I giggled.

"She'll learn to like you one day." I kissed him on the cheek. "But we should go." I told him.

"Nooo don't leave me." He whined.

"I need to take Aubrey home before my mom calls."

"Okay." He sighed.

I followed him up to his old bedroom to get Aubrey. She was still sound asleep when he picked her up. He kissed her on the cheek a few times and took her down to my car.

"Let me know if she says you can go to New York with me so I can buy your ticket." He told me as he placed Aubrey in her car seat.

"Yeah, I'll ask her tomorrow or tonight if she's in a good mood." I said and he chuckled.

"Bye." He opened my door for me and kissed me.

"Bye."

I waved as I drove away from the house. It was only ten pm so I really didn't have to leave yet. I just wanted to go visit Kellin and talk to him about me moving away with Alex. I called to see if he was home and he told me he was at Vic's house so I drove there. Vic and Kellin were cuddled up on Vic's couch when I walked in with Aubrey.

"Aw she's so cute when she's sleeping." Kellin whispered. He took Aubrey and held her so she could sleep on his shoulder.

"She fell asleep while we were with Alex."

"What did you guys do with him?"

"He made us dinner and he and I talked about everything."

"Is everything okay between you two now?"

"Yeah we're back to normal."

"Good, maybe he's not on my bad side anymore." He chuckled.

"Yeah he might still be." I mumbled.

"Why?"

"Well Alex um asked me to move in with him...and I said yes."

"You're moving to New York?!"

"Yeah Aubrey and I after I turn eighteen."

"Congrats Jack!" Vic exclaimed and Kellin glared at him.

"No that's not a good thing! He's going to move away from me!" Kellin complained.

"I know. That's the only part I hate, being away from my family." I said.

"You can't leave. I won't let you." Kellin said.

"Then come with me." I said and he rolled his eyes.

"You expect me to come live in the house with you and Alex?"

"No, you and Vic can move together."

"What?" Vic said cause he heard his name.

"Babe can we move to New York so I can be closer Jack??" Kellin asked him.

"New York?? No Kellin." He said sternly.

"But we're going to be so sad without each other." Kellin whined.

"And there are nursing schools we can go to together." I added.

"You two can FaceTime to see each other and there are nursing schools here too." Vic said.

"Pleeease Vic!" Kellin begged.

"I’m sorry babe but New York is out of the question." Vic told him.

"I tried." Kellin sighed.

"It's okay. You can come visit and I'll come visit too. It'll be okay." I told him.

"Wait, your mom is going to be okay with this?"

"Um most likely not, but I'll be eighteen so I can go regardless of if she says no or not." I didn’t mean to sound like a brat, but I felt like once I turned eighteen I should be able to make some of my own choices.

"I'm going to tell her not to let you go." He pouted.

"You better not." I threatened.

"I'm not letting you go away with my baby." He kissed Aubrey on the cheek. "She won't remember me if you take her away."

"She could never forget her Uncle Kellin." I chuckled.

"You better hope not." He mumbled.

"She's probably going to forget you because she's still a baby." Vic said and I chuckled.

"We're going to go home. I need to talk my mom into letting me go to New York next weekend with Alex to look at our apartment."

"She's definitely not going to let you go alone with him." Kellin chucked.

"Ugh I know." I complained.

"Why don't you go with him Kells? You can tell your parents that you both are just talking a trip to New York together." Vic suggested.

"Hmm that's not a bad idea." Kellin said and I agreed.

"That might actually work."

“Yeah I’m not doing anything next weekend.”

"Okay Kellin I'll text you later after I ask my mom if I can take a trip with you to New York."

"Alright. I'll be waiting." He handed me Aubrey.

I told Kellin and Vic bye and I drove back home. My mom was still awake with Avery when I walked in the house. I figured it would be best for me to ask her while Avery was here. He had a wave of persuading her to doing things in my favor.

"Hey mom!" I exclaimed and walked over to her.

"Yes Jack?"

"How would you feel about Kellin and me going to New York next weekend?" I asked.

"What on earth for?"

"We just need a break from Baltimore. Plus it'll be like senior trip for us."

"I guess if Lisa doesn't mind and if you pay for your own ticket you can go." She told me and I cheered. "Who's going to watch Aubrey on the days I have to work?"

"I can ask May, and if she can't I can ask Alex's parents' to baby sit her for a day or two." I suggested.

"Hmm it seems like you’ve got it all figured out.” She chuckled. “How was dinner with Alex?"

"Fine. He made steak and potatoes." I stated.

"Nothing special? You two just ate dinner together?"

"That's what I told you we were doing. Just regular dinner and nothing more." I said with minimum eye contact. "But I'm going to go take Aubrey to her crib and call it a night." I told her and she looked at me suspiciously.

"Okay. Goodnight." She told me.

"Good night, mom. Good night Avery."

I quickly went upstairs before she became more suspicious.
