Partners in Crime

Alex's POV

"This fucking case makes no bloody sense!" I said and got up before I smashed the computer up.
Jack chuckled quietly.
"Just breathe and think." He said.
"We've been thinking form the last 5 days and have nothing!" I snapped.
"Sorry, my head is somewhere else." I said quietly.
"Its fine. But just forget what happened this morning. It doesn't bother me." Jack said.
"Can't. He's my brother and I feel like he's my responsibility." I said.
"I'm sure he's old enough to look after himself." Jack said.
"He's 16 Jack." I said quietly.
"He looks older." He said quietly.
"We both had to grow up quick." I said quietly and looked down.
"How come?" Jack asked.
I looked at him and smiled.
"Another time Jack. Right now I need to see Jacob." I said and walked out the lab and went to the cells.

I got to Jacob's cell and looked in.
"Lex?" He said quietly and got up.
"Let me in." I said to the police officer and she nodded and let me in and locked me in.
I went and sat on the bed and Jacob sat next to me and looked down.
"Haven't been in one of these since I was 20." I said quietly.
"I'm sorry Lex." Jacob said quietly.
"Jake, you're 16 years old. You shouldn't be off your face on drugs. You should be at school and get yourself a scholarship and go to college. You should be a normal 16 year old." I said and looked at him.
Jacob looked away from me.
I brought my hand to his face and made him look at me.
"Your all I have left. I can't lose you." I said quietly.
"I miss them Lex." He sniffed quietly.
I pulled him to my side and rested my head on top of his.
"I miss them too, but we're better off without them." I said.
He nodded.
"And your not hitting on my new partner. I have my eyes on him and he's far to old for you." I said and Jacob chuckled.
"I'll find someone else." He said.

"I hate it when your off your face." I said.
Jacob moved away from me and looked down and messed with his hands.
"You have to stop otherwise you won't even make it to your next birthday." I said and looked at him.
"I'm too far gone to be helped." He said quietly.
I made him look at me.
"No your not. I said that to myself and look where I am now. You can do the same if you give up the drugs. You can do because you are a stubborn little bastard don't say your not because you are." I said.
"I don't know what to do anymore Lex." He sniffed and looked down.
I saw a couple of tears fall down his cheek.
I wiped the tears with my thumb.
"Don't cry. I'll get you help. You pay your debt off and we will get away from here. Start a new life somewhere. Forget everything which has happened to us." I said.
Jacob smiled and nodded.
"I'd like that." He said quietly.
I smiled and pulled him into a hug.
"Love you Lex." Jacob whispered.
"Love you too Jake." I said quietly and kissed the side of his head.

Someone cleared the throat.
I looked and saw Jack.
"I think I've found something." He said gingerly.
I looked at Jacob and he looked down.
"I'll be there in a second." I said and Jack nodded and walked off.
"Come on you. Your coming with me." I said and stood up.
Jacob looked at me.
"Thought you wanted me down here." He said.
"You needed to sober up. Which you have done so I'm dragging you to the lab." I said.
"More the the nerd lab." He chuckled.
"Too right." I said and he smiled and got up.
"Don't go hitting on my partner. Only I can do that." I said.
"Note taken." He said and we walked out the cell.

We got to the lab and Jack looked at Jacob wearily.
"Don't worry dude. I'm sobber." Jacob said.
Jack frowned and looked at me.
"I'll keep you safe don't worry." I chuckled.
"So what have you got for me then?" I asked.
"So we was thinking that it was a body dump." Jack said.
"That's because it was a body dump." I said.
"But what if he was actually killed at the scene but the killer cleaned up after himself." Jack said.
"Why would be do that?" Jacob asked confused.
"Let the nerds think." I said.
"Because it wasn't about the crime or the body and all that shit." Jack said.
"I'm lost." Jacob said.
"Shhh!" I said and put my finger on his lips and started to think.
"So your saying its a warning?" I asked.
"It has to be. Because we have no hard core evidence." Jack said.
Jacob moved my finger from his mouth.
"A warning to who? He hasn't left any clues on who the message is too." Jacob said.
I looked at him.
"What?" He asked.
"Just shut up and let the nerds do their jobs." I said and walked over to Jack.
"The stab wounds, thinking their a message or something." I said.
Jack hummed in agreement.
We stayed quiet as we was thinking really hard.

"Harry?" Jacob said quietly.
Me and Jack looked at him.
"You known the victim?" Jack asked seriously.
"Yeah, he was like one of my best friends." He said and looked down.
This was all what I needed.
"Why hasn't his family contacted the police about him being missing?" I asked.
"Because Harry was like us." Jacob said and looked at me.
"Like you?" Jack asked confused.
"Our parents were druggies and drunks." Jacob spat.
Jack looked at me.
"I thought his parents weren't as bad as ours." I said ignoring Jack.
"No one was as bad as ours but there weren't much between them." Jacob said.
"They dead?" Jack asked.
"Who's? Ours or Harry's?" I spat.
"At the moment Harry's." Jack said calmly.
"Jail. He ran away from his foster home." Jacob said.
"This is fucking important Jacob. Did he do drugs with you and you buddies? If so did he use the same dealer?" I asked.
"Yeah, he did drugs with me. I dunno probably but I'm not sure." Jacob said thinking.
"Do you know where is foster home was?" Jack asked.
"You know the place Alex." Jacob said and looked at me.
"You fucking joking? Is he still there if so your one your own Jack." I said.
"Think some woman runs it now. That's what I heard anyway." He said and shrugged his shoulders.
"We'll go there tomorrow. Right now I'm going home." I said.
Jacob smiled.
"Jack?" Jacob asked.
I looked at Jacob as a warning but he ignored me.
"Yeah?" Jack said confused.
"Fancy having dinner with us?" Jacob asked.
Jack looked at me.
"If you want t food with us then knock yourself out." I said and Jack smiled.
"Sure. Better be something good." Jack said.
Jacob smiled and we all walked to mine.
