Chapter 5
It’s been a week since Eve forgave Alex and they’ve been practically inseparable ever since. They ride to school together, walk to class together, eat lunch together, hang out at each others’ house after school and do homework together, and Eve goes to every band practice. They spend so much time together that their parents are best friends.
Rumors have started spreading around school that they’re dating. Alex doesn’t hear the whispers, but Eve does. She laughs at them, but doesn’t acknowledge them because she doesn’t care what they think. She has her best friend back and that’s all she wanted since seventh grade.
Eve and Alex were sitting next to each other in fourth period on a Monday, which was their second and final class together, and also happened to be the class right before lunch. Fourth period also happened to be Eve’s favorite class, English.
Eve wanted to be a writer when she got older. She loves reading and some of the books she’s read have changed her life, and she wants to be able to do that for others.
Back to the topic at hand, there were only ten minutes of class left and the teacher gives the
students their next assignment.
“Students your next assignment is a partner project. You and your partner will work together to write a short story that can be no longer than seven pages. You will have the rest of the week to work on it in class. It’s due two weeks from Friday” their teacher announced.
Eve and Alex looked at each other right as he finished and before either of them could ask each other if they wanted to be partners they started nodding their heads.
The bell rang, and everyone started rushing out the door with the exception of Eve and Alex. Eve reached down and grabbed her bag, and as she stood up Alex was already leaning on the wall by her desk.
“Do we eat with our friends today or do we ditch them and go to our diner.” Alex asked Eve, talking about the diner they regularly went to during lunch that was a few blocks away.
“We ate with them yesterday didn’t we?” Eve questioned as she walked over to Alex after gathering her stuff.
“We did, we also ate with them the day before. I think we’re in need of some time away.” Eve smiled and Alex threw his arm around her shoulder, another thing that had become a regular thing.
“I agree. Let’s go I’m hungry.”
They walked out of the classroom together and once again Eve could hear the whispers. However one caught her attention, one that stung.
“I don’t even know what Alex sees in her. She’s not even the slightest bit pretty.” She heard a girl whisper to her friend.
Alex stopped abruptly, causing Eve to stop too. He turned to look at the girl with a slight scowl on his face.
“Mind saying that a little louder, I couldn’t hear you.” He said innocently.
“I said that I don’t know what you see in her. She’s not even slightly pretty” The girl said confidently.
“Well you see Eve is the most amazing, passionate, and beautiful girl I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. She was my first friend here in Baltimore, and she forgave me for not only ghosting her when we went our separate ways for junior high, but for overall being a shitty person to her and leaving her alone when she needed me most. She’s my best friend and means the world to me so before you or anyone else tries to talk shit, remember that she has me on her side.” With that Alex threw his arm back around Eve’s shoulder and they were off to the diner.

I haven't posted something in forever but not only have I had no motivation, I've been super busy. I'm back now and Amy and I now have a plan for this story.
Hope you enjoyed! Leave a comment and tell me what you think of Alex defending Eve. Do you think he was just being a good friend or do you think there was something else behind it?
<3 Kayla
Haha, that's okay. No rush. :)
