Smooth Criminal

twenty-seven.

I kept my eyes glued to Alex’s bedroom ceiling, watching the fan sprint around in circles in the moon-lit room, as Alex laid beside me, tracing shapes and patterns into my bare shoulder with his index finger. As much as I bitched about my life, it was the moments such as these that kept me level headed, reminding me that there was a light at the end of the tunnel; no matter how small the light was, it was still there, waiting for my arrival.
“I love you,” I whispered into the darkness. Alex’s finger paused for a moment and then went right back to moving elegantly across my skin.
“I love you, too, Stella.” The smile could be heard in his voice and that alone caused the widespread of a smile of my own. “So guess what.” Alex was suddenly sitting up next to me, his eyes peering down excitedly at my lazy, sleep-deprived expression. I let out a soft hum, grabbing my boyfriend’s hand and tracing the outline of his palm. “A record label called me today.”
I quickly sat up, grabbing the thin sheets to wrap around my naked torso, and looked at Alex with wide eyes. “No shit,” I breathed out.
“No fuckin’ shit, babe.” The goofy grin on his face told me that there was no way in hell Alex would ever think about lying about something this huge. “They want us to send in a demo by December thirteenth. Stella, this could be our big break.”
“Aren’t you already signed to someone though?” I contorted my face in confusion.
“Hopeless Records is a bigger label who’s capable of taking us farther than we could possibly ever imagine.” Alex took a moment to collect his thoughts as I watched a thousand expressions flash through his eyes. “I’ve never been so ecstatic yet so fucking petrified in my entire goddamn life.” I grabbed Alex’s hand between my two much smaller hands and squeezed it in reassurance.
“I’ll be here every single step of the way, baby,” I whispered with a soft smile and loving eyes.
“What if they don’t like All Time Low?” He began to babble. “What if we aren’t good enough?”
“Alex,” I interrupted him by placing my lips firmly on his. “Don’t start with that. You have fans all the way across the state. Fuck, you have fans all the way down in Texas.” I raised my eyebrows at him, daring him to tell me that I was wrong.
“I don’t know… I’m just so overwhelmed.” The sound of insecurity in his voice was so odd to hear and honestly, it worried me a little.
“Did I tell you about how my cousins were obsessing over this new, ‘utterly fantastic’ new band at lunch?” I asked him, smirking up at him. He just stared blankly at me, confused as to why this was important. Especially now, out of all times. “Yeah,” I continued. “They’re just totally gaga over this upcoming band, All Time Low. Olivia, my sixteen year old brat of a cousin, is just super in love with the dreamy, stud of a lead singer.” Alex finally caught on to what I was saying and shook his head with an amused smile. “I, on the other hand, think the lead singer is kind of a dud, if you ask me.”
“He kind of sounds like it,” Alex spoke sarcastically. “I mean, who the fuck even names their band All Time Low? What kind of pop-punk, emo garbage is that?”
“I bet they play shitty ballads about stray kittens.” I don’t know how either of us managed to keep straight faces during the entire conversation, but it happened.
“I love you so much,” Alex smiled as he leaned forward and kissed me passionately. I nodded my head in response, not wanting to ever break away from his comforting embrace. Our lips moved together in synchronization as he laid me down on my back, his body pressing ever so lightly on to my own. I removed my grasp on the sheet and my hands soon found their way into Alex’s already disheveled hair, pulling him closer to me as my soul ached for closer contact. I purred in appreciation as Alex nibbled on my bottom lip and immediately granted him access. My legs wrapped themselves around his lanky torso, my hips grinding his as our tongues danced elegantly together.
“Hm,” Alex moaned, the vibrations tickling the back of my throat. “Babe, we don’t have anymore condoms.” I used the time that it took Alex to break away and state this fact to me to make a small trail of love bites along his collarbone.
“Oh,” I mumbled, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice. “That’s okay. I’m kind of tired anywa-”
“There’s other ways,” Alex interrupted me with a devilish smirk. I lofted an eyebrow at the boy. “Just trust me.”
“I always will,” I whispered just before he reattached his lips to mine. Alex placed a calloused hand behind the back of my head, cradling me closer to his body as our hips moved together, grinding against one another. A small trail of kisses was gently being placed down my neck, leading down my collarbone to my chest when Alex entered me. I closed my eyes from the abrupt contact, a short gasp followed by a high pitched moan leaving my throat as Alex gently rocked us back and forth. No words were said, just the sounds of heavy breathing and lips smacking against skin. I chewed on my bottom lip to keep from screaming out as the feeling of ecstasy and desire built up inside me of, afraid that if I were to be too loud, the serenity of the moment would be ruined. Every single worry shared between the two of us, from Hopless Records to dealing with the stress of my family, disappeared with every rattle of the headboard above me as my nails dug deeper into Alex’s bare back and the feeling of ecstasy silently blanketing over us.

It was later on that night, when Parker picked me up from the Gaskarth house and I was safely buckled into the passenger side of the car, that fear of losing Alex first hit me. My palms became sweaty and a tight feeling, best described as a tightly pulled knot, of slow suffocation was forming in my chest. Parker peered over at me as we came to a red light and furrowed his brows together in concern.
“Everything okay?” His voice sounded to be a good hundred miles away over the ringing in my ears.
“I…” I tried to speak, but the knot tightened and my eyes began to water slightly.
“Stella,” Parker’s voice droned as I struggled to focus on the dashboard in front of me, my hands clutching in tightly balled fists at the growing knot in my chest. “What's going on?”
“The guys got signed,” I choked out in short gasps, drowning in the air I was breathing.
“What? That's amazing! Holy shit!” Parker exclaimed excitedly, pressing the gas slowly as the light switched to green. I shook my head and allowed my head to fall in my lap.
“He's gonna leave me,” I cried, silent tears cascading down my cheeks, my swollen lips stinging in protest at the salty contact. The car turned on to our street and Parker pulled up beside the mailbox before putting the vehicle in park and turning to look at his hysterical sibling.
“Holy god, what?” Parker stared at me as if I had suddenly grown a second head.
“All Time Low is going to become this big, successful band and they're going to be off touring the world and I'm going to be stuck here, in this shithole of a town, for the rest of my life because I won't ever be allowed to go anywhere. I wouldn't know how to survive anywhere else, Parks.” My shoulders shook gently as I cried. Parker unbuckled his seatbelt and slid over so that he could bring me into his chest.
“You are so fucking stupid for someone so fucking smart. You know that, Lucille?” A lighthearted chuckle escaped his lips, his warm breath hitting the base of my neck. “As much as I hate to admit it, I've seen the way he looks at you, Stella. Any guy who looks at a woman the way he looks at you wouldn't leave her for anything in the entire world. I can assure you that much.”
I looked up at Parker through tear-soaked eyelashes and blinked a few times before whispering, “Really?”
“The kid is crazy about you. No matter how famous All Time Low gets, he's always going to need you to fall back on when the day is done. So I’m going to have to ask you to stop freaking out, okay? Because he's not going anywhere. You guys are in this for the long haul.” I took in a shaky breath and nodded my head, wiping the remaining tears from my eyes before straightening myself up.
“Also, as your protector of all things evil, I must inform you that you're in desperate need of a shower. You reek of sex and Dad will lose his shit if he sees you.”
My head fell back as a loud laugh rumbled through my body. “Gotcha.”
“That's a talk we need to have as well, missy.” Parker glared at me with teasing eyes. “And you better have a full on presentation and essay prepared as to why I shouldn't kick Gaskarth’s ass for deflowering my baby sister.”
“Leave the kid alone,” I said defensively. “We’re in love. Remember?” I smirked with a raised eyebrow before exiting the car and making my way to the house, feeling a bit more confident about the whole Hopeless situation than I had since leaving Alex’s house. I just had to keep thinking positively and everything else should fall perfectly into place, right?

Notes

I know it's kind of short, but I also wrote this on my phone due to the fact that I'm on vacation number 1 this week. Between my parents' god-awful snoring and having my brother sleeping on top of me (we are not small humans and we're crammed into full sized beds. kill me please), I figured I could write a little bit. This chapter kind of has the ball rolling a bit, with the first mention of them getting signed with Hopeless. Now I just have to figure out how I want to pace the rest of the chapters. I swear to God, I'm legitimately losing sleep over this story and how much I'm stressing out over the ending.

Fun little update about my life, though! Next week I'm flying out to go meet the guys in Set It Off and I'm super excited. I have no idea what to even expect. I've met them, like, twice at Warped Tour but those were just quick, little "Hey, your set was amazing," "Oh thank you so much for coming out. It means a lot," kind of interactions and now my friend and I are, like, hanging out with them for hours. And I'm such an awkward person. The thought is giving me anxiety. Send help.

Alright, well I'm gonna go lay out on the beach. Thank you for reading, commenting, subscribing, everything. Thank you so much. Y'all are amazing.
-Kate.

This was one of my absolute favorite stories. I am very curious to know if you are going to continue with this? Because I have to know what happens next.

I don't remember anything. I need to restart this. Damn, all I remember is loving this. Only more reason to read it all again.

Haha, keepin' it real. :) No worries, the only one that was kind of concerning was the Blink-180 because I think that's the first time I've ever seen that. XD But I figured it was a typo.
