Do You Want Me, Undead?

Chapter 14

Alex's POV

As we enter the gun store, I've got my gaze focused on the guy named Dean, who had been shamelessly checking out Lucy outside. I'm also keeping a wary eye on the third guy, Sam, who can only be described as a giant because he is TALL, several inches taller than Jack even. The first man, Bobby, is glancing suspiciously at all the gun racks sitting empty on the walls and I feel my stomach tighten slightly.

"Where the hell did all the guns go? This place should be full of them." Dean asks, his voice on the verge of threatening.

Flyzik squares his shoulders a bit and his expression hardens. "Don't start pointing fingers at us. The place was cleared out like this when we got here." he says indignantly, smoothly lying through his teeth.

Dean's eyes narrow but he doesn't question the subject any further.

"When did you guys get here exactly?" Sam asks, speaking for the first time. The deep, gravelly sound
of his voice takes Flyzik off guard and he hesitates.

"Late last night," Rian cuts in. "We had just left the Walmart down the road because the fires nearby had reached it."

The three strange men scan our group up and down, possibly searching for a chink in our armor.

"Fair enough. We've been avoiding the fires too." Bobby says carefully, still eying us curiously. The tension is almost palpable, and it's really starting to irritate me.

"So, are we all just going to stand here and stare at each other all night or do something productive like scrape some dinner together?" I suggest, trying to keep my voice level.

"Sounds good to me." Dean says with a grin, chancing a look in Lucy's direction. Lucy ignores him though, instead choosing to link our fingers together.

The tension could literally be cut with a knife. You'd think that with the presence of food that everyone would loosen up a bit. You'd think wrong.

No one was speaking and all eyes were averted from our visitors, instead everyone's gaze was focused on their food. I glance at Lucy sitting next to me and she shoots me a mixed expression, but I could guess what it meant; don't just sit there, say something!

Just as I clear my throat to speak, the Dean guy speaks up. "Well this is fun. You guys sure know how to keep a conversation going."

When I turn my gaze on him, I notice that he's examining Lucy perhaps a bit too closely.

"Well you fellas seem a little worse for wear. I guess we thought maybe you'd just like to eat and tuck in for the night, considering what you've probably been through." Lucy says, shrugging her shoulders.

"Yea it hasn't been easy these past few days. Our car broke down and we've been having to walk in this damn snow. Not to mention we've been getting low on ammo and food." Bobby replies, rubbing his forehead wearily.

"Well good thing you stumbled upon our group then, huh?" Vinny jokes, forcing out a laugh. "We were actually just getting ready to leave tomorrow."

All heads turn towards Vinny and I want to slap him. They didn't need to know that!

"You don't say? Where to?" Sam asks, raising his eyebrows curiously.

"The East coast. To Baltimore actually." Flyzik answers, deciding to just tell the truth.

"Ahh that's a shame, we're headed in the opposite direction." Dean says with a note of finality.

There's a brief pause and it's pretty obvious they aren't going to say where they're going, but I guess Danny doesn't get the hint. "So where are you guys planning to go?"

The three of them exchange the briefest of glances. "That's our business, sorry." Sam answers, his voice cool and measured. I feel my eyes narrow instinctively; that definitely sounds a bit suspicious.

"I think we're gonna turn in for the night." Bobby announces pointedly after a short but intense stare down, officially ending the conversation.

The three strangers retreat to a distant corner of the store until they're out of sight. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and turn to look at Flyzik.

"I don't trust those guys one bit." I say, lowering my voice just in case they might still be in earshot.

Flyzik pinches the bridge of his nose and shakes his head. "Yea I know, me neither."

"What if they try to steal the bus?" Lucy asks quietly, but we all hear her.

"Good point. I think we just need to get out of here as quick as possible, they seem to have a bit more gun experience than the rest of us." Colussy says.

"Sounds good to me. I didn't appreciate being so closely examined." Lucy grumbles with a slight scowl.

"You're not the only one.." I say quietly, sliding my hand into hers with a smirk.

She looks up at me and smiles, shaking her head in amusement, but she withdraws her hand.

"Don't pout, I need to use the facilities." She says after I jut my bottom lip out. "I'll be right back, chill out." She pecks my nose with a kiss and slips away.

Lucy's P.O.V

I weave my way through the store, heading towards the back where the bathrooms are, hoping that I don't run into any of our new 'friends'.

After washing my hands, I reluctantly look at my reflection in the mirror, frowning at what I see. "I need a shower, and a week's worth of sleep." I note bitterly before opening the bathroom door and start making my way back, that is, until I feel a hand circle around my wrist from behind.

I roll my eyes, couldn't Alex wait five minutes for me to get back? "Alex really? I-" I turn around and see that it's not Alex; it's Dean.

"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. I was just uh, I don't really know what I'm doing." He says, a coy smile playing across his lips.

"Well, can you let go of my wrist please?" I say, trying to keep my voice level while making steady eye contact with him; this guy makes me really nervous.

"Wow, you are gorgeous. I've never seen eyes like that." Dean remarks flirtatiously, ignoring my request entirely.

I scrunch my eyebrows together in frustration and try to yank my wrist away, but that just causes his grip to tighten. "No no, why don't you stay a while? We can get to know each other a little bit." He slowly gets me boxed into a corner, so I starts to contemplate my escape.

I want to punch that smirk off his face. I don't know why I don't try to yell for help, maybe I just think I can handle him by myself.

"No thanks douche bag, I already have someone." I reply, clenching and unclenching my jaw.

"Oh what? That skinny guy with the gay haircut? You could do so much better, baby." He shakes his head in amusement while I continue trying to escape his grip.

That's it. "Let go of me!" I shout, bringing my knee up hard into his crotch, watching the pain spread across his face with a satisfied scowl as he sinks down onto his knees. "And don't call me baby."

But when I try to walk away, he reaches out and snatches my ankle right from under me. I lose my balance and feel myself falling. I break my fall with my hands for the most part, and when I look up I see Alex running down one of the aisles with a furious look on his face, the others following behind him. I also see Sam and Bobby running down another aisle; they seem to look annoyed.

"Hands off her, you prick." Alex threatens, helping me back to my feet. He looks at me and smiles, shaking his head. "Can't I leave you alone for five minutes without you getting jumped?"

"Good going Dean. You just couldn't control yourself, could you?" Sam asks, looking at Dean with a withered look.

Dean stands himself up and looks at Sam innocently. "Hey it's not my fault the chick overreacted. Besides, I got kneed in the crotch by this-"

"Watch it." Alex warns, cutting Dean off mid-sentence and taking a step forward.

Dean looks Alex up and down mockingly. "Or what, pretty boy? You gonna take a swing at me?" he jeers, that cocky smirk returning to his face.

"Probably not, but I might." I hear Zack say.

There's a tense quiet as Dean and Zack seem to be silently sizing each other up.

"Alright guys come on, let's get out of their way shall we?" Bobby says, trying to break the tension and putting a hand on Dean's shoulder. Said man finally backs off with an irritated huff and walks away, followed by Bobby and Sam.

"Well that escalated quickly." Jack says in a hushed voice as soon as they were gone.

"Now I definitely don't want to trust these guys." Alex mutters, crossing his arms and glaring in the direction the other three left in.

I have to smile at how adorable he looks when he's trying to look tough. "Cool your jets macho man, nothing happened. We just need to leave, pronto." I tease, ruffling his hair for good measure.

His face remains serious however. "Well something could've happened." Alex turns to Flyzik. "How soon until we can be out of here Matt?"

Flyzik's tongue pokes at his lip ring before he answers, exchanging a glance with Colussy. "Well I still think it'd be a good idea to leave first thing in the morning, but I guess with these guys around who knows what'll happen by then."

"I say we just have a few people sleep on the bus to make sure it doesn't get stolen overnight or something, we don't know what these guys will or won't do." Rian suggests, adding his two cents to the matter.

Flyzik nods his head in a thoughtful matter. "Sounds like a plan, any volunteers?"
