Light The Way

Chapter 11

-Zack's Pov-

I was laying in my bed following my vows not to bother Sam. She didn't need me and I bet she left by now. I looked at the black digital clock on my nightstand. 10:15 AM. Yep, she was probably gone and I'll probably never see her again. Good for her, right? Suddenly, a pissed off Alex bust into my room, basically kicking the door down.

"What the actual fuck, Merrick?!" He yelled at me.

"What did I do?" I asked, playing dumb.

"Why didn't you show? Sam's gone and you won't see her again for a long time! It would be nice to al least say goodbye! SHE WANTED YOU THERE!"

"Look, No she didn't! She doesn't like me, so why should I-"

"Are you fuckin' stupid? She's in fucking LOVE with you! What do you mean she doesn't like you? You are all she thinks about! Why can't you get that through your thick fucking skull?" Alex yelled.

"Oh," I replied noticing that I just probably made the worst mistake in my life.

"And it's too late to chase her because she's gone! She's fucking GONE. Way to fucking go, Merrick!"
I sighed. Why was I so stupid?

-Sam's POV-

"We have now arrived in Denver, Colorado. Thank you for choosing Delta airlines. Please remain seated until the plane comes to a complete stop," The pilot announced happily. I sighed softly to myself. I was back home. I got my stuff at baggage claim and went out the door to see my older brother waiting for me.

"Sean!" I yelled dropping my bags to hug him. He lifted me off of the ground and then put me back down. He then got my bags and put them in his car. The drive from Denver to Boulder is pretty short. Usually about thirty minutes, but this time there was a lot of traffic on the highway.

"Why are you moving now?Mom never told me why," Sean said turning to glance at me.

"Mom said that she has no money and that I was getting too exspensive," I mumbled.

"So, how did your friends take the news that you were moving back here?" He asked, changing the subject quickly.

"Everyone took it well, I guess. Kat was hysterical and Alex gave me this bracelet," I said holding my arm up to show him.

"Oh, who's Alex?" He asked going into protective-older-brother-mode.

"He's my friend," I stated simply.

"Okay," He said looking back to the traffic which seemed to move barely an inch.

"So, how have things been since the last time I've been here?"

"Same old, same old nothing much to be honest," He replied.

"Oh, ok."
I noticed that Sean got off a different exit than he usually does.

"Where are we going?" I asked

"To my loft, I moved in just last month," He said, simply

"Ok," I replied looking out of the window of the car.

Soon we were at the loft. Sean parked the car right in front of the loft and helped me with my suitcases. When we got inside, he took me to see my room. It was beutiful. The room was painted white and all my furniture was moved in. There was a trunk by the windowsill with a blanket and some pillows behind a black shimmery curtain. It looked like one of those rooms in a magazine that every girl dreams of having.

"There's Space in the trunk to put your clothes if they all don't fit in the dressers," Sean stated

"I love my room, Sean," I replied still in shock and completely diregarding what he had just said to me.

"I can tell, " He replied. "I'm going to get pizza, call mom and let her know that you're okay."

"Yes, Master," I replied sarcastically.

"I kind of like that title. You should stick with that," He smiled

"Just go, Sean," I replied laughing

"Alright, bye," Sean replied leaving.

As soon as he was gone, I picked up my phone and dialed my mom's number. It rang twice and then stopped and went to voice mail as if she rejected my call. She was off today, so I don't think that she was busy at all. So, I left her a message and told her that I got home safely and to call me back.
I decided to call Kat next. I phone didn't even finish ringing once before she picked up.

"Sammi!" She screamed into my ear.

"Hey," I replied.

"How was your flight?" She asked calming down only slightly.

"It was alright," I replied.

"That's g- hold on. Yes, mom! I'll call you back later, ok?" she said, sadly

"Ok, bye" I sighed

"Bye," She replied . I hung up the phone I decided to call Alex next. He was home, so why not bother him? The phone rang a few times before someone picked up.

"This is is Jack," Jack answered

"Jack, give me my goddamn phone!" I heard Alex yell laughing a bit.

"No, you always get to talk to her. I wanna talk to her!"

"Jack, just give me the phone." He laughed.

"Who are we talking to?" Zack chimed in.

"Sa-"Jack started

"None of your concern," Alex said cutting Jack off. My heart sank a bit, maybe he wasn't busy at all, maybe he just didn't want to see me. Finally, Alex got the phone and I heard something like "Hold on," I heard a door close and Alex started to speak.

"Hey, how was your flight?"

"It was good," I replied softly

"I'm sorry about Jack, he's stupid," Alex laughed slightly as I smiled.

"It's okay, I miss my stupid friends," I said sighing

"How's Colorado?"

" Cold," I laughed. "I'm kidding, it's pretty good actually. My brother went to buy me food."

"Why didn't you go with him?"

"He told me to stay and call my mom, but she rejected my call," I said lowly, now turning on my side and switching the phone to my left hand.

"She's probably busy," Alex stated.

"No, she's not. She took off work today, so that she could push me on the plane here. She rushed me on there so fast I didn't even get to say anything to her. Am I really not that loveable, I mean Zack d-"

"Look,Zack's an idiot, ok? Your mom is wrong for pushing you on the plane like that, but that doesn't mean you're not loveable, ok. I mean, I'm an asshole, and I love you," Alex replied ending my rant.

" I miss you, Alex," I said softly.

"I miss you, too,"

"ALEX, GET THE FUCK OFF OF THE PHONE, WE HAVE BAND PRACTICE!" I heard Jack yell.

"Well, I gottta go, but keep in touch okay?"

"Yeah," I said softly

"Bye," He. said

"Bye," I replied hanging up the phone. Wow, I never thought I'd miss Baltimore like this, but I noticed that all that I know is. All my friends, memories, and Zack. I mean, of course I didn't want to go home over a boy, who doesn't like me back. I just missed the feeling of being there, Y'know?

"I'M BACK!" Sean yealled busting open the door and making me jump a bit.

"That was quick," I commented

"The place is down the street," He replied

"Oh, ok,"

"So, I got half cheese for me, half peperoni for you and a big bottle of pepsi," He said putting down the pizza box on the counter.

Seanwas the only vegetaria in the family. He watched slaughterhouse video when he was younger and vowed to never eat meat again. I'm pretty sure that was a challenge because our family pretty much dwells on meat, but somehow, he did it and I respect him for that. After we ate, I started to do the dishes.

"So, did you call mom?" Sean asked.

"Yeah, she rejected my call," I replied bitterly finishing the dishes.

"She did?" He asked. I noded.

"You know I don't lie," I replied.

"We'll at least, you called."

"I'm going for a walk," I said putting on my coat.

"Ok,Be careful," Sean replied

"Will do," I replied leaving. I walked by the school that I'd be going to from now on, Boulder High School, the home of the Trojans.
It was pretty big and took up about a block of space. I stood there for a while and took in the atmoshere of the school. There were students exiting. I assumed it was a half of day. The kids were just walking by minding their own business. I decided to continue walking now.

"Sam?" A familiar voice that I was not happy to hear asked. I suddenly felt my pockets for something to make me look occupied. My pockets were empty. Fuck me.
