Memories That Fade Like Photographs

Chapter 11

I was woken up the next morning to my phone vibrating beside me. I groaned as I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes to see it was already 11. I picked my phone up from beside me and opened up the message while a smile appeared on my face.
From: Alex
Good morning beautiful :)

A blush appeared on my face and I was smiling like a maniac while rereading the text again before I finally decided to reply.
To: Alex
good morning Alex(:

I stood up and stretched my arms over my head as a yawn escaped from my mouth. I sat back down on my bed and picked my phone up a second later to see that he already replied.
From: Alex
Do you want to hang out? Just me & you?
To: Alex
I’d love too. (: See u in an hour?

I quickly jumped off my bed and went over to my closet to pick something out to wear since I was still in the tank top and shorts I wore to bed. I quickly settled for a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and put them on before putting on the shoes my mom had given me for Christmas. I walked back over to my phone and opened up the text Alex had sent about five minutes ago.
From: Alex
ok, I’ll pick you up then. See u soon :)

I decided to not reply so I could finish getting ready; I walked over to my vanity and sat down before turning my straightener on. While waiting for it to heat up, I picked up my eyeliner from the table and put some on before setting it down and grabbing my mascara. Once I finished my makeup, I ran the straightener through my hair to make sure there weren’t any waves or anything in my nearly perfectly straight hair.
I looked at the clock to see that I still had about ten minutes to spare, so I looked in the mirror again to make sure I looked fine before putting my phone in my pocket and walking out of my room and down the stairs to see Chase sitting in front of the TV with a bowl of cereal in his hands.
“Hey Chay,” I said with a smile while sitting on the couch beside him and he looked over at me for a moment then turned back to the TV before looking back at me once he realized I was more dressed up than I would be to just be sitting around the house for the day.
“Where are you going?” he asked with a raised eyebrow while sitting his cereal down on the coffee table in front of us.
“Oh just going to hang out with Alex today,” I replied, the smile never leaving my face, and he chuckled.
“You’ve gotten pretty close to Alex recently, haven’t you?” he asked with a smirk and I beamed back at him.
“I guess you can say that,” I said nonchalantly while picking up the remote from the coffee table to change the channel but Chase caught my hand and I looked back over at him with a questioning look.
“What do you mean?” he asked, his brotherly protectiveness starting to show.
“He asked me to be his girlfriend last night at the party, well actually it was this morning, but you get what I mean,” I started to ramble and he chuckled before pulling me into a hug.
“Congrats, Kase. Be careful though, ok? I don’t want him to hurt you,” Chase said once he released me and I chuckled at him.
“Chase, I know what he’s like; we’ve been best friends for two months now, and we’ve acted like a couple since then anyways,” I reminded him.
“I know, but things change once you start dating the person. People can change,” Chase warned and I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, ok, I already knew that. Please don’t ruin my mood though, ok?” I said, my happiness slowly starting to fade away due to Chase’s protectiveness.
“Sorry. What time are you leaving?” he asked, trying to change the topic and I smiled gratefully at him.
“He’s supposed to be picking me up soon,” I said while looking at the clock to see I had a couple more minutes before Alex was supposed to get here.
“Have fun,” Chase replied while picking his cereal back up and putting a spoonful in his mouth to signal the conversation was over and not even a minute later, I heard a car pull up to our house.
“Bye Chase,” I said standing up and making my way out of the living room.
“See you later, Kay,” Chase yelled into the foyer with his mouth full of food and I rolled my while opening the front door to see Alex in his car smiling when he saw me.

Alex and I let out a sigh of annoyance as his phone rang; interrupting us from the comfortable silence we had been sitting in for the past hour that we had been at the nearby park, us only talking every so often. I lifted my head up from his shoulder as he pulled the phone out of his pocket before answering it.
“What Jack?” he said into the device, his annoyance showing through and I chuckled slightly while hearing Jack’s loud voice through the phone but not being able to pick up any specific words. “Shit. Yeah I forgot, sorry. I’ll be there soon,” Alex said a moment later before hanging up the phone and putting it back in his pocket and looking over at me while I raised an eyebrow at him. “We have band practice today,” he said, answering my unspoken question.
“On a Sunday?” I asked confused.
“Yeah, we have a gig coming up soon, so we decided to practice a little more to be ready for it,” he explained standing up and I stood up as well.
“Why didn’t you tell me you had a gig, jerk?” I joked as I lightly slapped his arm before intertwining our hands together and making our way back to his car.
“I just found out last night and forgot all about it until now,” he explained and I rolled my eyes while chuckling.
“Where’s it at?” I asked once we made it to his car and we both got in before he started driving back to Rian’s house and he gave me a small smile before answering.
“New York,” he said simply and a huge smile made its way on my face.
“Seriously?” I asked happily and he laughed.
“Yeah, and you’re coming with us,” Alex answered as my smile managed to get even bigger somehow.
“Oh my God, thank you so much Alex! I’ve missed New York so much!” I exclaimed and he let out another laugh while squeezing my hand that he was currently holding, but before either of us had the chance to reply, we had pulled up to Rian’s house where we both got out quickly before making our way into his house.
“About fucking time!” Jack yelled once he saw Alex and I making our way downstairs where the rest of the guys, Kara, and Caitlyn were all waiting for the lead singer to show up and I let out a chuckle while making my way over to Kara and Caitlyn and sitting down as the guys got to their designated spots in Rian’s basement to start the practice. I pulled my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around my shins while resting my head on my knees with a smile on my face as I watched the guys practice, well specifically Alex.
“Why are you so happy?” Kara joked and Caitlyn laughed as they both looked over at me.
“No reason,” I replied, not taking my eyes off of Alex.
“Bullshit,” Caitlyn said and it was Kara’s turn to laugh while I finally looked over at the two brunettes sitting beside me.
“Ok fine, if you must know, I’m dating Alex,” I said nonchalantly before Kara’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped slightly from shock while Caitlyn just smiled at me happily with an achieved look on her face.
“Since when?” Kara asked once her shocked slowly went away a minute later.
“Since last night, well I guess you can consider it morning since he asked me out at like midnight,” I explained before looking away from the two and back at the guys, none of which were aware of the conversation taking place between the three of us.
“Congratulations!” Caitlyn said happily and loudly as she wrapped her arms around me in a hug since she was closest to me, causing all the guys to finally look over at us with confused expressions, aside from Alex who was just smirking over at us.

“God, I’m so tired!” Jack exclaimed after the last few chords of The Party Scene ended before Jack threw himself onto my lap and I laughed.
“Get your fat ass off me, Jack!” I said loudly while shoving him off of me and onto the floor with a thud before he looked up at me while pouting; I smiled down at the frowning skunk haired guy on the floor while pulling my knees up to my chest and wrapping my arms around my shins. “Why are you on the ground, Jacky?” I asked sweetly and innocently with a smirk on my face and everyone else laughed while Jack raised his middle finger up at me causing me a wide, cheeky smile to make its way onto my face.
“That’s my girl,” Alex murmured loud enough for only me to hear before sitting down in the empty spot beside me and I casually leaned my head against his shoulder while his arm made its way around my waist to make me more comfortable. Kara and Caitlyn looked over at us with happiness written on their faces.
“Aww!” they said simultaneously, and I blushed while burying my head into Alex’s shoulder as everyone turned to face us.
“Why are you awing? They act like that all the time?” Jack asked the two girls, and they shot Alex and me incredulous looks since we hadn’t told anyone yet.
“We’re dating,” Alex said simply and Jack turned his attention back to us as his eyes widened at the unexpected statement.
“Since when?” Rian asked just as surprised.
“Since last night,” I said and Alex grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together.
“Fucking finally,” Jack ‘muttered,’ still loud enough for everyone to hear, and I mock glared at him before chucking the pillow that was beside me at his face, causing everyone to laugh.
