Second Chances

Three

The next morning Alex woke up with a smile on his face. No head ache, pleasant dreams, comfy bed, strong and warm arms wrapped around his upper body… Wait, what? Arms? He opened his eyes and turned a bit to peek around his shoulder and saw Jack, who was still asleep. Alex had to admit that the younger male did look cute like that.

After a couple of minutes of lazing in the other man’s bed, wriggled Alex out of his arms. Jack didn’t even notice it, just grunted slightly and turned his back to Alex. The blond man sighed in relief.
He quickly put on his clothes from last night and took a couple of steps towards the bedroom door.

That’s when Jack decided to mumble something in his dreams, something that sounded a lot like Alex’s name. The older man then sighed and turned around. He spotted a pencil on the nightstand and picked it up before taking an old receipt from his wallet and wrote a short note with his number on it before leaving the apartment.

Thanks for the night, I had fun. Text me if you’re bored.

To Alex’s surprise Jack didn’t live that far away from his place which meant that he was back home after fifteen minutes of walking, or practically running. He still couldn’t believe that he had done what he had, because sleeping with strangers was something that Alex Gaskarth did not do.

After climbing the stairs up to the fifth floor and getting into his apartment the blond man leaned his back against the door and finally slumped to the floor. The dreaded headache, thanks to the hangover, decided to make its appearance and now it felt like something was trying to break out of Alex’s skull. He dropped his head into his hands and closed his eyes.

After a few minutes he thought that the pain had somewhat gone away, but no. The thoughts of last night flooded in which made his head hurt even more. Alex stumbled up on his feet and walked to kitchen where he kept his painkillers.

After rummaging the cupboards – maybe a bit too loudly for his liking – he found what he needed and popped two pills into his mouth. He downed them with a swig from the water bottle he had pulled out of the refrigerator. He leaned his forehead on the fridge door for a minute before he realized that he still had his jacket on.

The blond man pushed himself off of the door and strolled back to the hall and put his jacket where it belonged. His battered sneakers found their own place there too before the male strode to his bedroom. Maybe a nap would clear his head. Besides, it was way too early for him to think about last night.

--

A couple of hours later there’s a knock on the door. At first the blond man doesn’t stir from his sleep but when the knock comes again, this time more persistent, he rolls over and opens his eyes. His head didn’t hurt anymore and neither did he feel nauseous.

Two more minutes of knocking before that someone decided to open the mail slot and pull Alex away from his sleepy state.
“Let me in, you idiot! I know you’re there.” Oh Rian. Always so nice.

The man rolled out of the bed groaning and dragged himself to the door. He flicked the lock and pulled the door open to reveal an annoying looking man with a buzz cut.
“Oh, you finally decided to let me in. I’ve been trying to call you the whole morning and then I come here and have to wait for twenty minutes before you get your lazy ass up and open the door,” he ranted and pushed himself past Alex into the small apartment the older one liked to call home.

“Yeah, good morning to you too.”

“So, what happened last night? You just disappeared,” Rian asked after he had settled on the loveseat made of black leather.

“Uhm… No, nothing happened. Not really,” Alex said while a tint of red appeared on his cheeks. He tried to keep his eyes on anything but the shaved-headed male next to him but he could still feel his stare on the side of his face.

“Don’t lie to me, shoot it,” the younger man persisted scooting closer to the blond-haired. This caused the other male to move to the farthest corner of the small couch and twitch his arms nervously.

“I-I didn’t do anything, nothing happened really,” he still tried even if he subconsciously knew that his lies weren’t working on the other one. He quickly glanced towards Rian and just the look he got was enough to make him open his mouth again.

“Okay. I… I met this guy. I think you saw him when I told Lisa I was going to talk with some guy from work, right?”

A nod with an interested look from the younger was the only answer he got, so he continued.

“Well, he obviously wasn’t from work. He ended up buying me a couple of drinks and we talked for some time and… eventually we went to his apartment. Things happened and I got back home a few hours ago,” the blond told shortly, without any details. He moved his eyes back to Rian and saw him gaping him.

“You… You hooked up with someone? With a stranger? Whoa, what happened to the heartbroken guy I’ve been trying to get with plenty of great guys during these past months?” the man with a buzz cut finally managed to choke out, shaking his head.

“Yeah, I did. And… honestly, I don’t know. At first I almost backed off but then I just… let things happen,” Alex spoke.

“But guess what the best part is? I don’t regret a thing.”
