Chapter One.

Today was Alex Gaskarth's first day at Reading Secondary School in England. Nervous was an understatement as to how Alex felt. Sure, he had all the qualifications he needed for the job, and he genuinely wanted to teach. It was just.. Well, what if the kids didn't like him? Alex was just a few years older then the teenagers in the sixth form, no doubt he would be teaching English to them. But what if they picked on him? Laughed at him? Made his experience hell?
All Alex could do was focus on the positive side of things and worry about the negatives when the time came to it.

Mr Gaskarth had already been greeted by head of the school, and he was currently in his classroom, tapping his fingers nervously against his desk. The sound of the bell signalling the end of form period made Alex jump, but he quickly settled himself back down when a swarm of teenagers filled the room.

Sixth Formers

Before he could give himself time to calm down, Alex noticed the class was already full, and all eyes were staring at him innocently. Alex cleared his throat.

"G-good morning. I'm your new English teacher, Mr Gaskarth-" As soon as Alex spoke, a boy's hand shot up, and Alex noticed the smug look on his face. His hair looked as though he'd left it like that since waking up,not brushing it, and his shirt was untucked, along with his tie which was tied loosely around his neck.

"Sir," the boy began. "Are you American?"

"As a matter of fact, I am, uhh-" Alex prompted the boy for his name.

"Josh, Josh Franceschi."

"Uh, right. Well, despite my American accent, I was actually born here, in England."

Tumbleweed rolled across the room in Alex's head, as the class stared at him dumbfound. Some of the girls, he heard, were whispering to one another about Alex.

"He's hot!"
He heard one hiss, and he watched as a few heads nodded in agreement.

Alex cleared his throat. "So, as it's the start of the year, and I'm new, I thought we'd just have a get to know each other lesson."

"Sir, we already do know each other." Another boy shouted out, and a few chuckles went around the room.

"Yes, but I don't know all of you! I'll start shall I? My names Alex Gaskarth and I just moved here to England to get a job, teaching." Alex looked around, he noticed a few faces relax, and smile at him. Maybe, just maybe they were beginning to warm to their new teacher.

"Okay, your turn."

He listened to the class introduce themselves. There was Maisie, who had bleach blonde hair, and makeup that looked like she'd shoveled it on with a gardening spade. Alex automatically assumed she'd be the school slut that everyone was two-faced about.

There was a Cole, who reminded Alex of himself when he was a teenager. He looked a little bit of a player, all the girls turning to look at him when he spoke. Except one girl. She didn't move her head an inch like all the other girls. She sat quietly at the front and waited her turn to speak. Something about her intrigued Alex.

"I'm Matilda, and I moved to Reading four years ago with my foster parents after my real parents passed away." She greeted her new English teacher.

Alex took in her appearance. She had dark auburn hair, which she'd curled, that fell to her chest. She had dark blue, almost grey, eyes, that were outlined with a thin layer of mascara. Although you could tell she was wearing a tint of foundation, it was not a lot. You could see her freckly skin. And her lips, they twisted into a smile once she's finished speaking, showing one little dimple on her left cheek.

Matilda also took in her new teacher's looks. There was no doubt about it. The man was extremely good-looking. He had two dimples she noticed that made an appearance whenever the man spoke. His eyebrows were huge and bushy, like two little caterpillar's sat above his chocolate brown eyes. His hair was messy but neat at the same time. She could tell that the man clearly cut it himself, just by the way everything seemed to match, well, his personality.

After the class had all introduced themselves, Alex asked the class what their aspirations were in life. He wasn't really interested in what 90% of the class were saying. Most of them wanting to be either rock stars or models. Then it was Matilda's turn to speak. She looked up at her English teacher, who'd made his way to the front of the class, and sat on her desk, not moving his eyes away from hers.

"I want to to set up self-help groups for people with all sorts of problems." She smiled a sad smile before feeling awkward and looking down, playing with her bare nails.

That was another thing about Matilda that Alex had picked up on. Compared to all the other females in this class, Matilda was actually natural. She didn't have tons of makeup on, just the sort to compliment her natural features. It was obvious the colour of her hair wasn't fake either, and she seemed genuine. She didn't seem like all the other girls in the class who looked as though they went to parties and got drunk every weekend.

There was definitively something about her which Mr Gaskarth liked.

After the bell rang, alerting the class that their double period of English was over, the class of sixth formers began to make their way out of the classroom. Alex watched as he saw Josh Franceschi make his way up to Matilda, and put his arm around her shoulder. With a smug smirk to his friends, Alex watched as he winked to Matilda.

"Hey babe."
Matilda simply shrugged herself away from the teen.

"Go away Josh." She muttered and walked over to the door. Before she left, she turned to face Mr Gaskarth and smiled a small, tight smile.

"See you tomorrow, Mr Gaskarth." And with that, she left.

Alex watched as the teenager walked away from him. There was something about Matilda that singled her out from the rest of the students. Whenever Alex thought of a reason for it, he always ended up changing his mind.

Sure, she wasn't as slutty as some of the girls, but that wasn't what singled her out. Neither was the fact that she was quieter than everyone else, or the fact that she sat by herself, deciding not to join in with the banter from the rest of the teenagers.

Her natural beauty? Her soft tone of voice? Maybe the fact that she treated Alex like an actual human being other than a piece of meat, like the other girls, who Alex had heard muttering about him when they thought he wasn't listening:
"He'd get it!"
"God, he's so gorgeous!
"I bet his dick is huuuuuge!"

Matilda wasn't like that, or so Alex assumed. Matilda seemed like the kind of girl that you could just be yourself around, be normal. Be who you actually are and not get judged.

Whatever it was, it made Alex feel something in the pit of his stomach which he'd never experienced before.

And Alex wasn't too sure whether or not he liked this feeling.
