Terrible Things

5 - Like Indecision To Call You

Alex’s POV

“I’m off to Jack’s babe,” I shouted out to Lisa, while kissing my son Billy on the top of his head, ruffling his hair as I went.

“Ok hun,” she called back.

I made my way out to my car and stuck on the stereo, Sleeping With Sirens blasted out, and I nodded my head along to the melody.

It had been a couple of days since Jack’s meltdown at Cass’ and I’d been meaning to go over and see him since, but something was stopping me for some reason. I guess I was afraid he’d have another cry session, and I don’t know if my heart could take seeing him like that any time soon.

I pulled up to the big house, and made my way up to the front door. I could see that it was slightly ajar, so I walked inside and announced I’d arrived. Almost immediately I was ambushed by my god daughter, Isla, as she threw herself into my arms and buried her head in my neck.

“I missed you Uncle Lex,” she murmured into my skin, “daddy’s not talking to me much.”

“I missed you too baby,” I rubbed her back, and I had, she was the daughter I didn’t have, and I adored her to the moon and back.

When Leo was born, I wasn’t made Godfather because Leah had two brothers that she wanted to make godfathers, but as soon as Isla was born, Leah and Jack had made me godfather, especially after Lisa had found out she couldn’t have any more children after Billy.

I spoilt her like my own, something Leah hated, as she said “she’ll end up preferring you to Jack if you carry on like this.”

I traipsed into the living room with Isla still in my arms and noticed that Leo was sat in front of the TV watching The Tweenies, something I found odd because he used to hate that show. Evie was asleep in her play pen, snoring lightly.

I put Isla down on the couch with the promise I’d be back soon, and made my way up the stairs towards Jack’s office where he usually went if he was thinking, and where he designed his shirts for JAGK.

I knocked on the door and a faint “come in” was muttered, as I pushed open the wood door.

The first thing I noticed was that he looked better than he had 2 days ago, but not much. He’d clearly shaved since then and his clothes looked relatively clean, though they still hadn’t been ironed. He still had massive bags under his eyes and his hair wasn’t styled, but it was clean.

“Hey,” I muttered to him.

“Hey Lex,” he replied with very little enthusiasm.

“Whatcha doing?” I asked him.

“Writing.”

“Writing what?”

“The speech. It’s shit.” He looked like he was about to cry again, but he was shaken out of it as the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it,” I offered.

“Thanks Lex.”

I ran down the stairs and opened up the front door, only to be greeted by Mr and Mrs George.

“Uh, hi,” I said.

“Where’s Jack?” was all they replied.

“Upstairs, he’s working; I’ll just go get him...” I trailed off as I made my way back upstairs leaving the front door open so Leah’s parents could get inside.

“Uh Jack? Your in-laws are here.”

“Shit.” He cried, “I forgot to call them.”

“Jack...” I groaned at him.

“Come down with me, I don’t think I can talk to them on my own.”

“Sure.”

I should probably explain that Leah’s parents hated Jack and I mean HATED him. It had got to the point that Mr George had flat out refused to give her away on her wedding day, leaving her eldest brother, Dean, to do it. It wasn’t until a week before the wedding that they agreed to actually come to the wedding, and even then they created a scene and refused to partake in any way. To say that it had broken Leah’s heart was an understatement, but they blamed Jack for taking her away from them, after she’d moved to The States to be with him.

They’d obviously been informed of her death; Rian had phoned them to let them know, because Jack could barely communicate with his children and his best friends let alone the in-laws who hated his guts.

“Let’s do this,” I nodded to him, as I saw him noticeably gulp.

Notes

I hope you enjoy this, but it's just a filler chapter really. The next chapter should have a bit more drama in it :)

Thanks again to LookingForSophie for helping me edit and just being awesome in general :)

Peace out :)
