Barakat, Jack Barakat

Chapter 10

Amy groaned, holding her head walking into the kitchen to take some painkillers. She had a killer hangover. She heard her phone ringing and groaned internally.
“Hello?” she said, a bit more annoyed than she had realised
“Well good morning to you too, sunshine” Jack laughed down the phone.
“How’s the hangover?” Jack asked.
“Do you really want to know?” she said
“Sounds bad, anyway, what are you up to today?” he asked, changing the subject.
“Not much really, just cleaning the apartment. Fun times” she said, pretending to be excited.
“Fancy going out for the day? Alex’s birthday is coming up and I need to get him something. We could then go for dinner, sound good?” he asked, hopeful. Amy smiled.
“Sure thing, Jack”
“Great, I’ll pick you up in 30 minutes! See you then” Jack put the phone down and smiled to himself. Just him and Amy spending the day together. Today was going to be good.
Amy heard a car horn come from outside her apartment. Jack must be here. She walked out of her apartment, locking the door behind her. Once she made her way outside, she smiled at the sight in front of her. Jack was leant up against the passenger door with a pair of glasses on. She didn’t know he wore glasses. Damn, they looked good. He smiled, pulling her into a hug.
“How’s the head?” he laughed.
“Slightly better” she said, adjusting her sunglasses.
“You didn’t tell me you wore glasses” she said as he opened the door for her.
“Eh, I only wear them when I’m at home or if I’m driving” he said, getting into the car and starting it up.
“They look good on you” she smiled
The drove into downtown Baltimore. This place was so beautiful in the winter, especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
“What are you planning on getting Alex?” Amy asked, they were currently walking around.
“I’m not too sure. Maybe a personalised Ravens jersey”
“That sounds good. What are you planning for his birthday?”
“We’re throwing him a surprise party, obviously you’re invited. Just don’t mention it to him” he laughed. After walking around for a few hours, Jack had gotten him a Ravens jersey. Amy just simply bought him alcohol, as she had no idea what he liked.
“So, food!” Jack said, smiling at Amy.
“Where would you like to eat? My treat” Jack grinned.
“Oh Jack, if you’re paying, I don’t want anywhere expensive” she laughed.
“I know just the place’ Jack said, taking Amy’s hand. They ended up at a cute, Italian restaurant.
“I hope you like Italian” Jack laughed.
“I do” Amy chuckled. They walked in, being seated immediately, ordering drinks.
“I’ve have a nice day, thank you” Amy grinned up at Jack. She wasn’t sure what to make of the day though. Was it just two friends going out? Or was it a date? The waiter appeared in front of the two, taking their orders.
After their meal, and what seemed like hours of talking, laughing at each others terrible jokes and sharing memories, they finally left the restaurant.
“Let’s go for a walk” Jack insisted, grabbing Amy’s hand. The pair walked through the streets of Baltimore, it was peaceful. Everything just seemed right.
“Thank you for agreeing to come out with me, Amy” Jack smiled at her.
“It was no problem, I like spending time with you” she replied.
“Amy?” Jack stopped, turning and looking at Amy.
“Yes?” she looked confused.
“I know when we first met, we didn’t really hit it off. Nothing went right. But I really, really like you. I’ve never been one for commitment. I’ve always just been the one who had one night stands all the time. Those women meant nothing to me. But you, you’re special. You’re an amazing person, funny, caring and so goddamn beautiful” he chuckled. Amy felt her cheeks burning red.
“So, I want to give this a go. I want to be with you, Amy. Will you be my girlfriend?” Amy was stunned. She hadn’t expected those words to come from his mouth. Was she dreaming? She just stood staring at him, trying to find something say.
“Amy, please say something” Jack said, beginning to panic.
“Yes Jack. Yes! Of course I will be” she grinned, throwing her arms around him. He leaned down and kissed her gently. They had kissed last night, but this kiss was a lot different. It was gentle, loving and soft. Amy pulled away looking up at Jack who was grinning like an idiot. She couldn’t help the butterflies in her stomach.

Notes

I'd love to visit Baltimore one day. It looks so beautiful. I've only ever been to America once, and it was New York back in 2012.
