“Lex? What happened?” Rian asked as soon as I hung up the phone and dropped it on the ground, as well as letting myself drop with it. He rushed over to me and came to my side.

“Daddy?” I heard Joella’s soft voice. I couldn’t speak at the moment. My mind was being flooded with all the things that could happen if Jack started drinking again.

“Dada?” This time it was Noah.

“Kids, go to your play room. Your Daddy will be okay.” Rian spoke to them. I heard both of these sets of feet jump off the couch and land on the floor, and then the sounds of them running off up the stairs. “Lex, tell me what’s going on.”

“J-Jack’s d-drunk.” I let myself completely break down when the words left my mouth. I know I might be overreacting to things, but if Jack goes back to drinking, I don’t know what will happen. Last time he drank he went off and cheated on me, and got the girl pregnant! That’s how we even ended up with kids in the first place, but don’t get me wrong, I love my children. They are my world. But I don’t think I’ll be able to handle any more hurt if Jack does anything. No one knows, but over the past month or so, I can feel myself slowly turning back into that timid college boy that wants nothing to do with anyone.

“I’m going to fucking kill him when I see him.” Rian growled as he brought me into his arms and just let me cry into his chest. That’s all I really needed right now, the comfort of my best friend. The comfort of the only person who has been by my side for most of my life.

As I cried to my best friend, I let my mind drift back to Jack. I wasn’t going to leave him, I don’t think I could live without him. Scratch that, I know I couldn’t live without him. But I also can’t live with anymore hurt, I need a vacation from everything. Wait, a vacation. That sounds like the perfect thing right now. I removed myself from my best friend’s arms after I calmed down and could speak without the stuttering. “Would you mind keeping the kids for about a week before Jack gets back?”

“Sure, I can take them. Why? What do you have in mind?” He questioned me with a calm voice as he helped me off the ground and we went over to the couch and sat there together.

“I need to get away from everything for a short time. About two weeks or so. I want to go on a vacation. By myself, well, maybe have Becca come with me. She could leave Lexi at our parents house, she has been dying to have them meet her anyways. We would leave and go somewhere a week before Jack gets back, but I don’t think we should tell him while he is on tour because he will most likely leave the tour and try to beg us not to go. But we will be back in a few weeks. What do you think? I won’t do it if you don’t think it’s a good idea. I just need a break from everything.”

“It sounds like a great plan, Lex. I’ll take Joella and Noah to my house the day you leave. The week before Jack comes back. You could use a break, and I’m sure he will be pretty upset coming home to where you are not there, but he will understand. But, where will you guys go?”

“I don’t know yet. I have two weeks to decide. I’ll figure it out.” I gave my best friend a small, yet meaningful smile. “Thank you for always being there for me, Ri.”

“No problem.” He smiled back at me and we gave each other a hug, but it didn’t last long when I heard my name being called from upstairs.

“Alex?! Where are you?!” The female voice shouted.

“Come on. Becca and Lexi are home.” I said to Rian as we both stood up from the couch, me wiping my tears on my sleeve, then we both jogged up the stairs and went into the living room and were met by Becca, Lexi, Joella, and Noah.

“Oh, there you are. Thank gosh, I thought something happened. Wait, have you been crying?” Becca asked as she came over to me and took my face in her hands to look it over. I took her hands away from my face and held them.

“I’m fine. I’ll explain later. But I have a question for you.” I said to her.

“What’s up?”

“How would you feel about going on a vacation with me? A little sister/brother bonding time. Lexi would go to Mom and Dad’s house.”

“For how long?”

“About two, three, four weeks at the most. Rian would take Joella and Noah to his place for a week, then the day Jack gets back, he will be bringing them back home.”

“Sounds like fun. But where would we go?” She asked with a small smile. I thought about it for a minute and then an amazing idea came into my head. I knew the perfect place.

“Australia.”
