Without the Love

Miss Glass Girl

-Alex-
Lisa rolled over against my back and murmured something in protest with her thin leg hitching around my hip. The heat was ungodly. It was only May and already the weather was nearly eighty degrees in the mid morning light. I groaned and pushed her leg off of me, wiping my hand on the sheet after contact with her sweating skin. “Go shower.” I snapped at her and got up, fishing my boxers off the floor.

“Come with me.” She whined as she sat up.

Her face was coated in thick black eyeliner that had streaked across her face in her sleep, she looked like a melting clown. I rubbed my face at her and shook my head in disgust. “Go shower. You got make up all over my fucking pillow.” I’m anything but kind to her.

“Stop being such a douche.” She stood up and rolled her shoulders, sauntering over to me. “So Barasshole and your bitchy ex wrote a song about you. Big whoop. You’ve written tons worse than that about all of them and they can all go to hell.” Her arms wrapped around my waist and her mouth flitted against mine, making the space between us diminish. “Alex calm down.” Her fingers dug into the muscles under my skin, trying to work out the knots that budded every time I get overly stressed.

“Lisa,” I slid my hands around her small waist feeling annoyed.

We fell back on the bed, her lips parting in a surprised ‘o’ as I slammed into the warm cavity of her woman hood, my boxers barely clearing my thighs before I drilled into her. She screamed against my shoulder, clawing at my spine. I pulled my erection out of her and slammed into her again, forcing myself into her hard and fast. She strained against my body, digging her heels into the mattress as I slammed myself in harder. By the time I triggered, by the time my orgasm came, her moans had drowned into pure screams. I rolled off of her, satisfied. Lisa got up to get off the bed and smirked down at me, her clown make up causing a small chuckle to escape my chest. “Fuck you.” She gasped, sifting her hand through her hair.

“Darlin,” I laid back lazily and groped for a cigarette from the pack on the night stand. “You already did.”

Kenz leaned into my side as we shuffled down the hallway to her apartment, her hand fisted into my shirt dependently. I looked down at her, my arm securely around her waist, and felt another shudder tear through my body. We’d been through this before.
======
She was sitting on a curb all by herself, her hands cradling her face as she sobbed with broken intensity that made my heart ache. Rian, Jack, and I had all walked away from Alex as soon as Kenz ran from him. I refused to play the show and the three of them went on without me. I’d stalked around the city, calling her phone, calling her name, begging for her to come out of wherever she was hiding. I checked every open bar and then stumbled across several already closed for the night. She was nowhere to be seen, nowhere to be found. She wasn’t answering her phone. She was missing. None of them seemed to care, none of them seemed to realize just how much damage Alex had caused in those last few moments he’d spent with her. I knew better than that though, the two of us had gotten fairly close as the couple progressed. She as a good person, funny and strange, she was a great cook, an amazing singer, and she could hold her liquor better than a lot of girls I’d known. Having her in our lives had made all of us really appreciate what we had…or at least that’s what I’d thought. But now she was stranded, left alone in a strange city, empty. So when I saw her, relief flooded through me in a heartbeat. I touched her shoulder, felt her jump a little, and look up at me. There was a sort of deafening strength in her eyes that made me waver just a little. A sureness that she could pull herself back from this when there was nowhere left for her to go. No one for her to turn too. But what she didn’t realize that I, well I was right there the whole time.

“How long have you been sitting here?” I asked, leaning down to scoop her up off the ground.

She rested her head on my shoulder and clutched my shirt in her thin fingers. “Since the bar closed.” She whispered against my collar. Her breath smelt of whiskey and rum, and there was no doubt in my mind that she’d had more than her fair share of both. “The stars are pretty tonight.” Her voice was thick; her eyes were blood shot and red. It was evident she had been crying for a while.

“Yes, they are.” I walked down the sidewalk, under all the city lights. As we came to an intersection, I glanced down and felt a rush run through my blood. Kenz was asleep with her head nuzzled into my neck. I kissed her temple and trudged on, looking for the nearest hotel. With the wafer light girl in my arms the walk wasn’t nearly that long. Inside the ritzy hotel I got more crazed looks than imaginable as I walked to the front desk. “I need a room please.”

The woman at the desk, a tall blonde with the heaviest make up I’d seen on a woman over forty, looked up at me with a raised eyebrow. “Is she all right sir?”

I nodded firmly and shifted her until her whole body was nestled into my side, resting on my hip. “Yeah. Wandering around tired her out a lot. Like I was saying, we need a room.”

“Name, sir?” The woman began to type into the computer, shaking her head.

“Reacheara. R-e-a-c-h-e-a-r-a.” Kenz mumbled before I could say anything.

I looked down at her, chuckling. “How long have you been awake?”

“I was never asleep Merrick.” With a little help from me she set herself on her own two feet and leaned against the check in counter, resting her cheek in the palm of her propped up hand. “Now, like I was saying. I’m pretty sure my father has a reserved suite in this very hotel.” Her little back pocket wallet came out and her ID was slammed down on the counter. “Now please, please don’t make me give the manager a call.” She sighed tiredly and hunched her shoulders, the flimsy fabric of her tight t-shirt mimicking the motion. Her small shoulders were tense and I wanted nothing more than to put my hands on them, to grip and release as I worked the knots out of her delicate muscles. I would give the world to feel the heat of her skin against mine, the tension in her body crushed thrush against mine as we leaned into the embrace of the world. I blinked and looked away, rubbing my face. In the distance I could hear tired partiers and giggling couples flow in and out of the lobby, and the sounds of the city outside the glass entrance doors. The lights over top, over pricey chandeliers that flitted and glittered over the white tiled floor, were a little too bright. I could feel the sensations of a migraine coming on full force as the two of us made our way to the elevators. Kenz walked ahead of me silently, her little shorts clad hips swaying with each aggravated step. I really needed to focus.

“Can I ask what that was all about back there?” I asked as I hit the button for our floor. Leave it to Mackenzie to actually get us a decent room in a crowded hotel on a Friday night.

“Did you guys just not wonder why Alexander” she flinched at his name “called me ‘Rich Girl’?”

“Uh…” in truth, not really. We’d all just assumed it was Alex being an asshole because she made more money than he did. Than any of us did. “No?”

Kenz smiled over her shoulder at me, striding into the elevator. The alcohol was making her more boisterous than usual, a little less uncomfortable being around strangers. It was funny to watch her saunter over to the back wall of the elevator and hook her thumbs in her belt loops. She smirked up at me and laid her head back on the wall, a tawny glint in her gorgeous green eyes. “I’mma trust fund baby.” She smacked her lips as she said it, causing me to chuckle. “Daddy’s a big shot lawyer in New York and Momma is a heart surgeon.”

This actually made a lot of sense. Kenz came from a family of eighteen kids, mostly adopted like her, who were all in either really good jobs or in one of the best private schools in New York City. Her oldest brother Joshua was a retired Navy Seal who worked on Wall Street, her older sister Cassandra and older brother Aaron were models like her, Aaron working for H&M while Cassandra works for Victoria’s Secret. Eric, who was basically Kenz’s twin from Lybia Reacheara’s womb (her adopted mother) was an H&M model and had worked for Ford Models’ before that. All the other Reacheara kids were younger than the sixteen year old duo were in school still. Just like Kenz should have been. But when VS talked to her sister about her she jumped at the chance. I nodded vaguely at her explanation and ran a hand through my hair. At least she wasn’t crying any longer.

"I see.” I put my arm around her shoulders as we stopped on our floor. She leaned into my side and the two of us walked to our suite, silence radiating between our selves. As soon as we were inside she crawled into bed, her back to me, and fell silent. I sat on the couch and watched her sleep, ignoring my phone, which had been going off constantly since I’d left the venue, and thought.
=====
I’d left All Time Low less than a week later.

We made it to my car and I opened the door for her, watching her slide in in the tiny little black bikini she’d had on. Her shoes got chucked in the back seat as I sat down in the driver’s seat. I shook my head and started the engine. “What’d those poor shoes ever do to you?”

Kenz giggled and hid her face in her hands. She smelled like cheap beer and whatever shitty cologne Sean was wearing. A shower was in her immediate future. “They looked at me funny.” She announced and looked over her shoulder at the little black heels that looked amazing on her feet but looked like another simple pair of heels on the seat.

“Well that’s rude.” I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Duh. That’s why I threw them.”

So after reading your other story, I had to check out this one and I absolutely love it as well. Ugh, so bummed your never continued it. :(
But if you ever choose to, I will be here to read. I don't believe I've read a plot line quite like this before, and I hope you choose to pick it up again someday. Would love to know what happens with Alex and Kenzie.
You're a really great writer and have me hooked.
