Chapter Nine.

Jack

Seeing Layla interact with her friends today made me happy, she looked so happy. The only thing that made me upset was the fact the green-haired boy, Jasper? I think his name was. Kept looking at Layla and biting his lip, and looking at her like she was the most interesting person in the world, which I do believe to be true, but that’s not the point. I was going to say something about it before she went to bed last night, but I decided not to. I was currently still in Alex and Lisa’s house, I really need to stop spending my nights here. I feel like I live here now, that’s how often I am over here. I had Netflix pulled up on the TV, watching Orange Is The New Black. But my mind kept going everyone, the thought that popped into my head just now was about that Zander guy. What if he tries something on Layla? I would be heartbroken if I couldn’t protect her. My thoughts were interrupted by the voice of my best friend.

“Morning, Jack.” Alex spoke with a smile as he sat on the couch across from me.

“Morning, Lex.” I spoke, not really looking over to him.

“Okay, what’s wrong?” He asked. I hate how he knows me so well.

“Nothing.”

“Don’t lie. What are you thinking about?”

“That Zander guy at Layla’s school.”

“Why are you thinking about him?”

“From what her friends told us. What if he tries something and hurts her? What if-” He cut me off.

“Jack, nothing is going to happen. If anything does, I will let you murder him for me.”

“It wouldn’t be for you, it would be for Layla.” I spoke with a small smile as I looked over to him.

“Oh no, it would be for me. Layla, Kaitlin, and Lisa will be holding me back, while you kick his ass. Because trust me, if anything happened to my children, the person who hurt them is dead.” He spoke. I let out a little chuckle, knowing he wasn’t lying. We heard footsteps coming down the hallway, and we both looked over, and watched as Layla made her way into the room. She was wearing a Bring Me The Horizon sweater, black ripped skinny jeans, her bracelets, combat boots, and a dark red beanie. She wasn’t wearing any make-up today. Which just made her look even more beautiful. She doesn’t need make-up to look beautiful in my eyes.

“Morning beautiful.” I spoke with a smile, dropping all thoughts in my head, and just focusing on her.

“Morning Jack.” She said returning my smile.

“Did Kaitlin wake up while you were getting ready?” Alex asked.

“Yeah. Only for a few minutes, I told her to go back to sleep and that I would see her after school.” She replied.

“Okay. Oh, also, remember, after school tomorrow, we have to go down to the court place and you have to give your statement, and then we will be put on trial.”

“Okay. I’ll make sure I wear something more special to school tomorrow, that way we won’t have to drive back here so I can change. Can we leave early today? I have to meet up with Jasper, Chris, and Brent.”

“Sure. Let’s go. You coming with us Jack?” Alex asked turning to look at me. I nodded my head and stood up, slipping my feet into my shoes that were by the couch. We all walked out the door, Alex first, Layla in front of me, and my closing the door behind us. I noticed how short Layla was to me, and it made me smile. Her shortness was just another thing that made her adorable. We all walked over to the car, and Layla got in the backseat today. Once she shut the door behind her she laid down and closed her eyes.

“Tired?” I asked as I put on my seatbelt and looked at her.

“Really tired. Plus I feel like I might be getting sick.” She spoke, still keeping her eyes closed.

“You don’t have to go to school if you're not feeling well.” Alex spoke.

“No, it’s fine. I want to go.” She said. Alex nodded his head in understanding and started up the car. I faced forward and pulled out my phone, pulling up Twitter. I posted a picture I took with Layla the first night we met.

@JackAllTimeLow
Look at this cutie!

“Layla, just so you know, I posted a picture of us on Twitter. The one we took the first night we met.” I spoke.

“Okay. As long as you didn’t tag me in it.” She replied.

“I should have. But I didn’t.” I said with a chuckle. The rest of the car ride to the school was quiet. Once we arrived at the school I spoke up again, seeing as Layla fell asleep in the backseat. “Layla. We are here.” I said, reaching over the seat and shaking her leg. She slowly got up and looked around. I chuckled at her and she made eye contact with me, and I sent her a wink and smile.

“Stop winking at my daughter. It’s wierd.” Alex spoke.

“Get over it.” I said as I looked at him and sent him a smirk. He sent me a look and turned around to look at Layla.

“Have a good day at school, sweetheart.” He said, sending her a smile. She smiled back at him.

“As long as Zander don’t talk to me then I will. Bye guys.” She said as she got out of the car. Once she got out of the car, we watched as she scanned the groups of kids. Her eyes landed on her friends and she took off and over to them. I let out a sigh and sat back in my seat and Alex started driving again.

“What’s wrong this time?”

“I don’t like her friend, the one with green hair, Jasper.” I spoke.

“And why not?” He asked, sounding confused. I had to tell him, he’s my best friend, if something is going on he can help me through it. He always does.

“When we were at the ice cream parlor yesterday, he kept looking at her and biting his lip. He kept his eyes on her as if she was the most important person in the world, which I believe to be true, but you know what I mean.”

“Jack, you shouldn’t be upset by that. I see the way Layla looks at you.”

“What do you mean?” Now, it was my turn to be confused. Alex let out a chuckle and spoke.

“Whenever your eyes are not on her. She always looks at you. She has these passion filled eyes every time she does. You are the only person I know that she looks at like that.” He said, sending me a smile. To say this made me feel really happy, would be a understatement.

“Really?” I asked.

“Really. I think she really likes you. Which scares me.” He admitted.

“Why?”

“Because you are you, Jack. Don’t take it in a bad way, because I’m not saying it in a bad way. It’s just, you are the woman man, the one who gets all the girls. The one who sleeps with different girls every night.”

“Would it make you feel any better if I told you that I haven’t slept with anyone since the night I met, Layla?” I asked.

“You haven’t?” He asked, sounding pretty shocked.

“Nope. Don’t plan on it either.” I said.

“I’m proud of you, man.”

“Thanks.” We drove in silence for the rest of the ride, which was only about ten minutes. I heard my phone ding when we got in Alex’s driveway, telling me that I had a text message. We both got out of the car and I pulled my phone out of my pocket, but spoke before I looked at the text. “Hey, I’m going to head home, get a few more hours of sleep before I have to meet up with Rian. You guys spending the day getting to know, Kaitlin?”

“Yeah we are. Have a safe trip home.” Alex spoke, waving bye to me as he walked up his driveway, and I made my way to my car. Once I was in my car, I opened up my phone and saw the text. It was from Layla.

Layla:
Is is bad that I miss you already?

Me:
Is it bad texting in class? ;)

Once I sent the text, I laughed to myself. I got another text from her, not even a minute later.

Layla:
Yes. But I’m a rebel ;)

Me:
Do your work, Miss. Rebel. ;p

Layla:
Fine. You’re too boring to talk to anyways.

Once I saw the text, I could almost see the smirk on her face, she was always sending me sarcastic text messages.

Me:
Whatever! Do your work and have a good rest of the day. I’ll see you after school, when Rian and I are done hanging out. Also, don’t text back. That way I know you're doing your work.

I waited a minute more, waiting to see if I would get a reply, to which I didn’t. I put my phone in the passenger seat and started up my car, and drove off to my house. I drove to my house in silence, not even turning on my radio, I was to tired for that. In fact, I was to tired that I shouldn’t even be driving right now. I kept feeling my eyelids grow heavier and heavier with each passing moment. I decided that I should turn on my radio, that way the music can keep me awake. I turned my eyes to my radio for a second, that way I can press the on button. When I looked back up at the road, the only thing I saw was a van coming straight forward to me. I heard a loud crash sound. Then I saw nothing but black.

Notes

Did I plan on letting my writing do this? Nope.
When I write my mind just goes where ever it wants.
I did plan on writing a day out with Jack and Rian.
But my mind didn't want that.
So this is what happened.

Also, sorry it's short!

Hope you enjoyed!
