Long Live the Reckless and the Brave

Twenty-Nine

I was in the car with my dad. I got the day off from school since today was the day I have been waiting weeks for. I was going to the hospital to get my hands free of my casts. I would still have more healing to do and I'd have my left had in a soft cast while I'd have my right forearm in a brace to work on using my wrist again.
"You excited, kiddo," Dad asked me as we pulled up to the hospital.
"Of course I am. I'm getting a step closer to being able to use my hands again," I beamed as he got out of the car. Once he got my door open and my seat belt off, we walked into the hospital.
"Hello, what can I do for you," the nurse at the reception desk asked.
"I'm here to get my daughter out of her casts," Dad replied.
"Name please," the nurse asked.
"Stella Gaskarth," I answered her.
"And yours sir," the nurse looked to my dad.
"Alex Gaskarth," he replied.
"Alright, here are some forms that you'll need to fill out for her to get her casts off. A nurse come and get you to get you taken care of," the nurse gestrued to a waiting area.
While we were waiting, Dad was filling out the forms when someone tapped on my should.
"Can I help you," I asked politely of the young woman that had sat down next to me.
"Is that Alex Gaskarth, from All Time Low," she asked.
"Yes, that's Alex. He's my dad," I told her.
"Then you must be Stella. My daughter is a fan of your band and both my daughter and I are fans of your father's band," she told me.
"Due to my casts, I can't give you an autograph for your daughter," I told her.
"That's fine. But can I get a picture of you and I together with your dad for her. My daughter is being treated for a bad allergic reaction," she asked.
"I see no problem in a photo. I can give an autograph as well," my dad said as he looked up from the forms.
"Thank you so much," the woman got another stanger to take our picture for her and my dad gave her his autograph.
I was finally in my exam room, waiting for the doctor to come in and remove my casts. I was so excited to finally get these hunking things off my arms. My leg was bouncing like crazy as I sat on the exam table.
"Stella, relax," Dad smirked at me.
"I'm excited to get these off my arms. Let me bounce my leg in peace," I replied, sticking my tongue out at my dad.
"Hello Stella and Mr. Gaskarth, I see that it's time to get your casts off Stella," the doctor said as he walked in.
"Yep, I'm excited to get them off so I can get closer to using my hands again to play guitar," I told him.
"Well so you know, your left hand was badly damaged and will be getting a soft cast to finish healing. Your right arm healed much faster," he told me.
"How soon can she get out of her soft cast," my dad asked.
"In five weeks she can get out of the soft cast and start physical therapy so she can get full use back into her hand," the doctor explained.
On the ride home, I looked at my still immobilized left hand. I was hoping to be comepletely free of my casts now. That was not the case unfortunately.
"Look at it this way, princess, now you can do more stuff by your self now and your mother and I can worry about you less," Dad said, tryin to lift my spirits.
"I wish I could play guitar again," I sighed heavily, "At least I can try writing again."
"That's the spirit. In a week we'll be able to hear the mastered copy of Last Flight Home so you can hear how we sound together on a master track," Dad said as he rested a hand on my knee.
"I hope it came out sounding great. I'm not as talented as you are, Dad," I told him.
"I see you getting even better than me as you get older, Stella. You have a natural gift to sing. I had to practice to get as good as I am. But your voice is right up next to mine in skill," Dad said.
Once we got home, I went straight to my room and got out my journal and wrote a song for my dad. One that would show him that I'm proud of him being such an awesome person and to show him that I want to make him proud.

Notes

Stella is nearly 100% better.
