Long Live the Reckless and the Brave

Nineteen

"Alright so waht's the verdict guys," Tom asked.
"Serenading Sirens," everyone chimed in at the same time.
"Alright, I'll call it in to the owner so he can make his flyers. We'll break the news tomorrow to our parents," Tom got out his phone and sent the text out to the guy who decided to hire us for our first gig,
"I can't believe we'll be playing our first show ever in a few weeks," I geeked out as I leaned back on Jack.
"I know, before long we'll be like our dads, out playing shows and making a name for ourselves," Jack agreed, kissing my forehead as he wrapped his arms around me.
"But we'll be only playing two of our own songs and the other three are two of of dads' songs and Dammit. We'll need to write up more of our own songs to get out to people we're more than a cover band made up of the kids of four famous musicians," Aubree added in.
"We'll get there, Aubree. Just chill out. Stella is the one that writes the lyrics. She only bring us the best songs to write every part for," Nate defended me.
"So, we've picked our band name," Aubree started our announcement line.
"We gave it lots of thought since we want it to stick," Nate continued.
"So we've come to the conclusion of," Jack left it off for me to finish it.
"Serenading Sirens. Based from Break Out Break Out," I finished.
"I'm flattered you guys are using an old lyric of mine for your band name," Dad gushed at our little ego boost for him.
"Now you guys are a legit band," Uncle Jack added in.
"I look forward to seeing you guy play for the first time on New Years," Uncle Rian added.
"You guys have worked your butts off for this Good job," Uncle Zack finished.
So now it's Christams Eve. This means a visit to Grandma and Grandpa Gaskarth. I love going to see them, but we've never met our Grandpa Caspin. I decided to talk to Mom and Dad about it.
"Mom, why don't we ever see or hear from Grandpa Caspin," I asked.
"Stella," Dad snapped at me. I guess I asked a bad question since I saw Mom become a deer in the headlights when mentioning Grandpa Caspin.
"What did I do? I asked a simple question," I replied with my hands up in surrender.
"Alex, it's fine. She should know and so should Tom. Liam and Noelle can be told in a few years from now," Mom grabbed Dad's hand and gave a squeeze.
"Tom can you come here for a moment," Dad called for Tom.
"What's up Dad," Tom asked, looking up from his phone. He's been texting Aubree non stop.
"Your father and I see that it's time to tell you why you onnly get to see your father's parents during the different holidays and such," Mom started off.
"Your mom was a victim of abuse growing up. Your grandfather was hitting her and putting her down since she was born practically. Your grandfather became a drunk when your grandmother died when your mom was born. In fact, your mother was scared to death when she was pregnant with you two that she was a constant wreck. But look at where we are now. You two are healthy teens and your mom is still here and happy as ever. I didn't want you guys to know about this. Now make me a promise never to say anything to Liam or Noelle. They're too young to know this yet," Dad looked us square in the eyes.
"It's not my secret to share so I won't squeal," I told them.
"I agree," Tom added.
"Good now let's get going, we don't want to be late to your grandparents'," Dad ended the conversation and we all headed out.
The next morning, I woke up to Noelle screaming about Santa having been here. I groaned and got up anyway since it was Christmas and all. I went downstairs to find Tom wide awake along with Mom and Liam. Dad was just like me and he was leaning his head on Mom's shoulder. I plopped don on the floor in front of Dad and rested my head against his knee.
"Merry Christmas Stelly," Noelle smiled at me. She had some crazy amounts of energy early in the morning.
"Merry Christmas, Noelle," I replied with a big yawn.
"Jack keep you up last night texting you," Tom teased.
"Shut up, Tom," I replied.
"Now now, you two," Mom broke up our arguement.
"Stelly, this one's for you. I can tell," Noelle pointed to a big gift. I walked over to it and brought it to my seat.
"Who's it from," Liam asked.
"Mom and Dad," I replied. I tore open the paper to a guiatr case.
"There's more. Open the case," Dad encouraged me. I popped the latches and opened the lid. My jam dropped when I saw what was inside.
"You didn't," I gasped. Mom and Dad got me my replica guitar of Dad's red and black PRS guitar with the black skully on it.
"I wanted to make up for denying you your new guitar that you wanted," Dad said.
"Thank you, Daddy," I wrapped my arms around his neck tightly.
Along with my guitar I also got a bunch of sweet Galmour Kills clothes I had been wanting as well as more journals and pens for writing and some recording software for my computer so I can record my music for the others to hear what I come up with when I write.
Tom got some new CDs he'd been wanting and some clothes like me. He also got money to helo get him his learner's permit so when we want to drive out for an out of town show, Tom can drive us out. Plus he also got bunch of stuff for him to use as our tour manager too.
Liam got a soccer ball and bunch of other cool toys he'd be wanting. Noelle got a new doll and clothes from Mom and Dad. I gave Noelle my old wolf plushie since I knew she liked him a lot. She wanted my Pooh bear, but I told her he's mine forever and I'm not sharing him with her.
"Here Dad," I handed Dad my gift for him.
"You didn't have to, Stella," he pulled out a little book that wrote on the cover "15+ Promises from Daughter to Father". I wrote down one thing to promise him on each page in the form of a lyric. I slaved over it while he was gone on tour.
"You're wlecome Dad," I replied with a huge smile.
"Merry Chirstmas, everyone," Dad said to all of us.
"Merry Christmas," we replied together, all of us gatheirng into a huge group hug.
I couldn't ask for a better Christmas with my parents and siblings than this one right now.
