Long Live the Reckless and the Brave

Seventeen

I knew Dad was very curious about why I was so much happier. That's an easy one to answer. His name is Jack Bassam Barakat and he's my boyfriend at long last. I was tempted to tell Dad right when he got home, but his birthday is in a couple days and Mom invited Jack's family and Aubree's family over for a celebration. I knew that would be the perfect time to tell him that Jack left the bitch and we started dating.
"You know Dad will pester you for the next three days before his party. He'll make you squeal," Tom warned.
"No he won't. I have an iron will that I can resist him without a problem," I bragged.
"You better hope Dad won't threaten Jack's life if he does wrong by you. He might scare him off," Tom commented.
"Shut up about it before Dad hears," I told him as we joined Dad with our food. Mom made us wait on dinner until Dad came home so we could have a meal together.
"How has band practice gone," Dad asked between mouthfuls of food.
"Pretty good," I replied as I settled into my spot at the table in between Dad and Tom.
"Have you guys gotten any calls for gigs," he asked.
"Yeah, the Ottobar booked them for New Year's. We just have to give them the final band name so the owner can make posters to get the word out," Tom answered.
"That's great. I remember playing the Ottobar ages ago. I can't believe they're still open and getting young bands in. Do you have a band name in mind," Dad asked.
"I'm think The Party Scene. Since we're inspired by your band and we're all the kids from each member of your band. Plus you're music us a big influence on me, we figured that it would fit with us," I told him, "But we're going to make our final decision tomorrow at practice."
Today was Dad's birthday. I was going to break the news to him gently that Jack and I are dating. I'm hoping he won't scare the crap out of him. I like him a lot. I think I might just love him like how Mom and Dad love each other. We've known each other since we we're toddlers and even before we remembered anything.
"Happy birthday, Dad," I greeted my father as I came downstairs. He was having his morning coffee and watching TV. Luckily for me, Tom, and Liam we got a snow day since the temperature dipped way too low and it was snowing pretty bad last night.
"Thanks, princess," Dad smiled and kissed my cheek as I sar down next to him.
"So besides your little party, what else do you have planned," I asked him.
"Relaxing with my family. I was gone for two months and I missed a lot," he replied, "Now can you please tell me what made everything from when we last talked?"
"You won't let it go, will you Daddy," I asked him.
"Not a chance, baby girl," he smirked.
"Ugh, fine I'll tell," I looked down at my hands for a moment before looking back up at him again, "Jack broke up with the girl he was with. But before he did, Tom and I had everyone play seven minutes in heaven and I got to go first and we fixed it so I could get Jack alone. He told me how he felt and I kissed him in reply."
"I see you have my difficulty with words when it comes to teen crushes," Dad smiled, "Anything else I should know?"
"Well, Jack dumped his girlfriend the following Monday and then he and I became official at school the following day. I hid what we had from Mom so she couldn't spill it to you. We decided to wait until your party tonight to tell you and Uncle Jack, but you couldn't wait," I finished my explanation.
"I'm happy for you, Stella. I know he makes you happy when you two hang out together and play music. Don't let your relationship mess with the band. And if he breaks your heart, I'm busting his balls," Dad threatened Jack's teenage manhood.
"Dad, do not even think about it. You know he won't break heart. We're best friends and band mates first and then boyfriend and girlfriend second," I groaned.
'I'm just being your father, sweetheart. I have to be the protector when it comes to boys," he smiled and pulled me to him.
"I beg of you to not embarrass me or Jack tonight. His dad doesn't know yet that we're dating and same with our moms. We're telling them tonight," I told him.
"Secret's safe with me," my dad did the lock and key seal on his lips as a promise to me.
"Thanks Daddy," I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"I'm also happy that you've been writing more. I'll have to have a listen sometime," he commented.
"You will soon, I promise," I turned my attention to the TV and just relaxed with my dad.
It's feels so good to have him home again. I like having him down the hall for when I need advice with music or to talk about my boy issues.
