Summer Breeze Fade Away

The New Hope

The professor in my photography history just finished giving lecture and one by one the students were getting out from class. The class was empty now, leaving only me sitting there alone for a couple of minutes before I finally put my books back into my backpack and walk away.

I went downstairs and walk through the hallway. Sometimes I met my classmates, they waved at me and calling my name but I just gave them a little smile and kept walking to the front door that led me to the front yard where a lot of students spent their free time, studying, laying around, or getting laid with their lovers behind the wall or a big tree so nobody could see them doing that.

I just passed a fountain in the middle of the front yard when someone suddenly calling my name. I didn’t want to stop walking, since I really want to be at home right now, but it’ll be not nice if I didn’t say hi back so I turned around lazily and that person was just got up from the bench and walked toward me.

“Vic?” I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Vic, what are you doing in here?”

“I’m looking for you,” he gave a big grinned.

“How did you find me here?”

“Well, since you walk away from me the other day without saying anything. So I was looking at the nearest university and I found this one. Then I asked the administration if there is a student name Danarra,” he smiled again like he just did something to be proud of.

“It’s impossible for them to tell you that easy,” I raised one of my eyebrows and chuckled at him.

“Ok you got me,” he laughed. “I did a little charm to that woman.” Vic must be referring to the woman in the administration who was a little sassy with boys.

“What did you say to her?”

“Well, ya uhm… I said I was looking for my friends and if she can tell me where she is, I’ll give her my number.”

“And she fell for that?” I chuckled again.

“Yep! And the number I gave to her is Mike’s,” he laughed so loud.

“Oh Vic you’re such a prank! Poor Mike!” I punched his right shoulder and laughed as well.

We stopped laughing and looked to each other holding our mouth hard not to laugh again, but it was useless. Vic and I started to burst into laughter, and it made some people who walked near us looking at us with evil eyes. Probably thought that we were crazy.

“Well Dana…” Vic started to talk as I tried to reduce my laugh. “Uhm m-maybe we can go for a coffee right now?”

“Uhm Vic…” I stopped for a second. “I’d love to but I…”

“Come on don’t say no to me!” He smiled. “My treat. Come on Dana! You caused me wondering around in this unfamiliar city by myself just to see you,” he smirked and made me laughed.

“Okay, okay I come with you.” I started to walk as I bumped my arm against him.

“Why they never get my name right?” Vic sighed as we sit on a tall chair in front of the window.

I laughed out loud at him when I saw his cup, because the barista wrote prick instead of Vic.

“Stop it Dana, like your name was right?” he pouted.

“At least mine was Dani. It still in an ok level,” I stuck my tongue out.

“Okayyy…” and he rolled his eyes.

We were in silence, taking our time sipping our coffees. I was starring at my cup and steering it over and over again using my teaspoon. I was started to forget about everything around me when my imagination image about Zack and Alanora popping into my head. I was grabbing my cup so tightly when suddenly I heard a camera shutter.

“Vic, stop it!” Vic took a picture of me using my camera that I put on the table in front of us.

He just laughed and raised his hand all the way up when I tried to grab my camera. He teased me and laughed hard when I gave up and pouted. He was about to put back my camera onto the table, but when I wanted to grab it he back raising his hand up with my camera still on his hands.

“Viccccc!” I punched his arm several times and he still laughed even he said aw aw aw all the time.

“Geez Dana you have the best punch, do you know that?” he then put my camera backs as he stroking his arm. “Why you don’t want me take picture of you?” he added.

“I’m just not in the mood, Vic,” I scoffed and back sipping my coffee, didn’t want to see him.

“But look at yourself,” Vic pick up my camera and showed the photo of myself that he took. “You’re beautiful, Dana!”

I peek a little to my camera screen, “don’t lie, Vic. I look terrible!”

“Every single person who see you will never ever forget about you,” he said as he zoom-in my photo.

“Oh I highly doubt that,” I look down to my cup and grab it with my two hands.

“Is it a-about Zack?” Vic asked me in low tone.

“Is that really obvious?” I asked and he nodded. “I… I keep thinking about what you said to me yesterday…”

“B-but you said you’re still with him, right? And you pretty sure that your friend will never do that to you.”

“I know! B-but I…” I bit my lower lip. “Well Zack… Z-zack is kind of different in the past few months. We rarely talk to each other a-and… And you said that!” I paused. “It makes me think something negative. Plus Alanora never goes on Skype with me anymore. Iriana and Idaline said that she was busy and doesn’t have time to hang out with them anymore. When the truth is, she’s been hanging out with Zack all the time, and Zack never told me about that! Both of them suddenly stop talking to me and acting weird! How can I’m not thinking there is something going on between them!?”

I was too emotional and we were back in silence after I blabbering. I kept staring at my almost empty coffee, while Vic sat next to me a little stunned and didn’t know what to do. But he took a long breath before back talking to me.

“I’m sure the conclusion is wrong. Nobody will waste a great girl like you,” he patted my shoulder. “You have to cheer up, come on! You’re better when you have that little smile on your face,” he shook me and made a lot of silly faces.

“Viccc, stop that!” I laughed a little, seeing the stupid expressions he made.

“See! You’re better when you laugh, Dana! You just need to talk to Zack and get this thing straight. Ok!?” Vic held my hand and kept giving me his signature smile.

“Okay…”I sighed. “I’ll try to talk to him tonight,” I smiled at him.

“Great! Now, come, let’s take a picture,” Vic then took my camera, roll it over so the lens was facing our face.

“What? Oh no… No no Vic!”

“Danarraaaaa… Come on, just one picture to remember us ever meet and you being too sentimental in front of me for the first time.”

“Shut up!” I punched his arm again.

“Damn Dana! Another punch, seriously?” and he laughed.

“Whatever! Okay just one picture!”

He then moved a bit closer to me as I positioned myself against his upper arm. I felt Vic’s arm is wrapping around my shoulder and I leaned closer to me. He then took a picture of us together.
